Many people don't realize that Anoop was NOT the only soloist in the group! The Clefs audition internally for and vote for the best soloist/best voice for each new song. Anoop had many solos, but not all, and I've posted so many of his solo vids to help people get to know him for his run on AI that people start to assume it was "Anoop and the Clef Hangers" like it was his own group. So, yeah.

The Clefs have been around for 31 years, and will be around for at least 31 more years. Anoop was with them from 2004-2008, while he was an undergrad at UNC. Of course they still have concerts, their next big one is Spring Concert on April 25. Anoop was great as a Clef, but they still have so many great singers and that will continue year after year. they carefully audition and select new group members to ensure ongoing excellence. Anoop is missed, but the Clefs thrive before and after him.

To those of you just wanting Anoop to sing it :

If you guys knew anything about a cappella music, then you'd understand that it's a GROUP effort and that all the members can sing well, so everyone takes a turn soloing a song.

Anoop IS good, but in an a cappella group, there is not ONE solo singer.

Yes, but obviously if you have a favorite singer then you WANT them to sing. Anoop doesn't own the a cappella group, but everyone has a favorite in a group and obviously they prefer them. I like both, however I do not think this song suited this singer that well, some of the high notes he didn't have enough depth and emotion.

Remember that their process for choosing soloists for each new song is to first vote that the new song should be done, and then each Clef who wants the solo parts auditions for them in front of the rest of the group - then they discuss and vote on who would be the BEST soloist for the particular new song. I love Anoop, and he was the perfect choice for so many solos, but not every one - and sometimes his vocal strength was needed more in the background than at the solo mike .

I wouldn't say musically illiterate, but we can, for the most part, teach singers to sing in our style. Most of us do have previous experience, but it is by no means necessary. Many of our members audition without having sung outside the car or the shower. It really varies on a case by case basis, but it's common for us to teach parts by singing them to each other, rather than reading them. Hope that helps.
