  • Got freaked out, so I clicked it to pause.

    Accidental double click.

I will never be the same.

  • xD, 1:51, my brother really laughed in this part.

  • Oh god... I can feel my sentience screaming in cosmic agony just from looking at this video.

  • I have a question. I'd like to think of myself as a devoted Lovecraft fan, but I'm not obsessed, so there are things I don't know. I have heard somewhere that the shoggoths source of energy is a form of radiation coming from within the Earths core. If this is true, please let me know, and preferably with details (what kind of radiation and such).

  • i'd look at him

    "damn u ugly"

or at least thats what i'd tell myself as i was running the fuck away from it xD

  • Who would dislike this? I'm starting to wonder if there are robots who simply go around and dislike every video that gets 4 or more likes

  • Of all of the games I've ever played, the shoggoth is the only thing that has ever scared me in video games. The tunnel you run through after electrocuting it makes me shriek in terror.

  • I hate having to watch that stupid 'Shoggoth cam' cut scene every time. You can't skip it.

  • Thekeli-li thekeli-li.

  • That Shoggoth bitch-slapped him

  • Who the hell is this old guy talking about Hyrda and Dagon? Why does he sound like a retard? Can't he speak properly? He annoys the piss out of me.

  • @Kyuubi424 It's been awhile since I read the story that order that character belongs to is in, but I think he is not human. He may be part human part alien/monster like the citizens of innsmouth. The order of dagon wore masks at least so they are either disfigured, all of them, or not wholely human. I'd say the latter is the more likely.

  • @Omega1000AQW Well that explains a lot. It still doesn't make him any less annoying though.

  • @Kyuubi424 That's one of Obed Marsh's descendents. He's turning into a deep one. Getting rather close to the transformation too, if I'm not mistaking.

  • Iä! Iä! Father Dagon!

    Iä! Iä! Mother Hydra!

    Iä! Iä! Cthulhu Fhtagn!

  • That has got to be THE worst version of a shoggoth that I've ever seen. Should they remake this game I pray for them to hire the same guy who designed the necromorphs in Dead Space.

  • @DArlauccualrADfan Dude it looks almost exactly like it was described in Mountains of madness.

  • @eternalnate Sure, but it's a drawn black and white version.

  • :30

Okay thaaat does /not/ make sense.

  • "VAT PUMP ACTIVATE"

"Hmm... This must activate the vat pump..."

  • Well, if you got some sanity to loose, play this game.

  • That horrible sucking sound as you go down the ladder... just god damn, this really is the best adaptation of lovecraft into anything ever. I sure hope the Mountains of Madness movie will do these terrors justice.

  • kool

  • funny, in the tale the Shoggoths were the elder gods who banished them to distant dimentions... funny that one human beatone god alone when the old ones had black magic lol

  • @void735 Technically, the Shoggoths were bio-engineered slaves that gained consciousness and broke free of their masters. Read Lovecraft's story "At the Mountains of Madness."

  • wow an unholy god with powers of mass proportions! luckily i have a handgun...

  • @zachatyahoo Welcome to video-games!

  • @zachatyahoo

Nah, the guy mocking you at the start of the fight took all the guns when he knocked you out.

  • @OreWaUsopp stkill thought it was funny though lol. if i were this guy i would not be digging deeper with just a revolver LOL

  • kool

  • Wait. You went right under a shoggoth. Why aren't you dead?

  • Seeing this video, I can't believe I actually had the balls to play through this game! XD

  • I feel the same ^^ and I played that game in the night alone :D

  • @Thewhiteronin It's probably the most terrifying game I've ever played!

  • I always thought the concept of a shoggoth was kind of stupid.

    ......Not anymore.

  • @Rahheemme It's difficult to be scared by most of Lovecraft's creatures, since most of the horror is based around the fact that they're utterly indescribable. As for a Shoggoth, I always preferred to think of them as being more fleshy than goopy, it makes the way they form temporary limbs/organs and ooze around a lot more disgusting and creepy.

  • i love how this game has no useless HUD in it, some games try alot to make a cool looking HUD, no HUD is good HUD lol

  • whats HUD ?:))

  • @wrestlingfan57 Heads-up Display, shows you the basic info, like health, ammo & other stuff :D

  • Thanks ! :D

  • and also docs don't know everything, hence the reason they're still searching for a cure for all of these illnesses/diseases and whatnot. Don't throw your text book crap at me.

  • 2 different cases = trauma, seeing shit.

    And actually being injured.

They both cause insane blood flow.

    Think about it.

  • go into shock. It can be caused by traumatic experiences too. The second time I got hit the same thing happened, my damned elbow was so screwed up and stiff. Couldn't move my arm. That time they hit me crossing the street. I really hate wreckless drivers, but again I went into shock thinking oh everything is fine.

    Yeah no it wasn't fine.

  • If you've ever talked to a person in shock they seem completely calm, it is called "shock" for a reason. Some people will actually sit there bleeding from a gunshot wound and say "I'm fine, no need to worry," because they're in shock. Some people freak out. So think of Jack Walters as in shock when he is being calm. Great game, gonna' buy it soon. Love H.P. Lovecraft.

  • Myth: Shock is a psychological issue.

Fact: Shock, in medical terms, is a condition where body systems fail due to massively irregular bloodflow. You can't beat shock through psychological means. It's an injury and should be treated as such.

  • It's not an injury. I have been hit by a car two times in my life. The first time I got up and acted like I was perfectly okay. I was laughing. My entire body was in shock. After a day I started feeling the pain from the accident. It's adrenaline, yes we know that. Adrenaline does a lot of good. It's your bodies way of dealing with what just happened. So consider Jack Walters blood flowing like a freight train and him being in shock from what he's seen. You don't have to be physically injured to

  • i believe this is game made to shit brix

  • yes ok

  • "what's happening to-""It's no use it needs a new fuse" he goes from disturbed to calm in the middle of a sentence lol

  • This is the part I'm at now. Can't get past the part where you get the fuse, the tenticle is faster than me.

  • scary game;(

  • Shoggoth and you thought gelatinous cubes where bad!

  • Onoes, a servitor!

  • This was such an awesome game... my only problem was that jack sounded so calm, even when he was going nuts and hearing voices. If you clicked on, say, a box while he was going insane, he'd calmly say "It's just a plain old box". It'd have been more fitting for him to yell "Oh God, what's in that accursed fucking box?!"

    Anyway, shoggoths rule.

  • That was one of my primary issues with the game- the way Jack would just nonchalantly toss off some description even in the middle of a firefight or while running away from a nameless horror of the depths.

    But yes, shoggoths rule.

  • lol, indeed! It even beats the classic Resident Evil 1 line; "There's something wrong with this place" ;) No way Cherlock! But overall the atmosphere in this game looks awesome! :) The creators really tried hard.

  • Dammit! Fix that broken leg! That sound is driving me CRAZY!

  • Come on people the shoggoth just wants love :3

It must be desperet sence there are no japanese school girls in Innsmouth lol get it Inns-mouth sorry lol

  • How come Jack whispers so much?

  • I don't think thats jack, its just the creepy voices.

  • Aaah

  • Because he's terrified and crazy. You try going through half the shit he goes through in this game and see if you're talking to yourself or not.

  • This level reminds me of the similar one in half-life. Such a bitch.

  • Same here. Anyways this is weird; in Mountains of Madness, Lovecraft described Shoggoths as having voices like musical piping, in imitation of the Old Ones. In this game, they sound like Xenomorphs (from the Alien films).

  • lol "i want this to end..." "whats happening to me!?" "What the hell is going on?!" heres one "why didnt i just leave when everyone told me to?!"

  • is marsh that faggot who hit jack?

  • Yup. Marsh is the jackass villain ^^;

  • I hate that thing more then that dog from duck hunter.

  • What the hell is so badass that Cthulhu is its servant?!?

  • The Outer Gods, that's who, (at least if I recall correctly, I may be wrong). The chief of which being Yog-Sothoth and Azathoth.

  • Cthulhu wasn't a servant. He was the High Priest or Priestess, whatever it was. He was supposed to rise first from R'lyeh and resurect Mother Hydra Father Dagon and the other Old Ones

  • Wasn't Cthulhu supposed to wipe out life on earth?

If i recall correctly, every deep one, including Hydra and Dagon were servants to Cthulhu.

  • cthulhu may be a demigod but for a poor peasant that sees a huge lumbering monstrosity he is more than a god

  • I love Jack Walters.

  • I hate that Shoggoth

  • How exactly DID you get down the stars at the start? EVERY time I try the tentacle comes down and blocks my way. I've tried for a half hour now...

  • Yeah, that got me too. Apparently, you just hide behind the crates around the corner where Jack says " this looks like a good hiding place. Until he blatantly responds "I better get moving after waiting for a few seconds, only then can you proceed.

  • this game got a very bad reputation

i like this game but too bad it ain't that populair

  • Rather than getting bad reputation, it got lack of advertising.

  • Now THAT is what I call a shoggoth on the roof!

    I should get this game!

  • I feel like i need this game :D

  • 2 20: aw fuck lol

  • tzeentch and the chaos god borrowed a lot from HP Lovecrafts cosmic horror

  • Yeah. They both kick ass though, WH40k and the Cthulu Mythos.

  • Well Cthulhu himself isnt a god hes a servant of the gods

  • AFAIK he's right.

  • Man that shoggoth can realy move fast,I would hate to meet one of them.

  • Yea meeting one of them rather never ends well XD

  • I havent played this game but I want to and was wondering if you can encounter monsters in call of Cthulhu at random?

  • today i freaked out because i got shot by a fish

  • in the game

  • Depictions of Lovecraft's bestiary are of mixed quality in this game. The shoggoth, for example, is suitably mucillaginous and protoplasmically revolting, but it doesn't surge and glop viscerally enough. The Deep Ones are uninspired, and Dagon is completely wrong altogether and looks like the creature from the Black Lagoon.

  • It's movements during the chase scene portion of the game are more than satisfactory. Exceptionally trure to the source.

  • What is a shoggoth?

  • read the shoggoth on the roof

  • A shoggoth a type of servitor created by the old ones to build there city but the shoggoths mutated there own minds and rabeled but the old ones used there old can do spirit and invented energy weapons to send the shoggoths wailing back to hell. Shoggoths can be sommoned to guard stuth and also to do watever there master wishes and thats all I know.

  • In some cases, they also run around freely. Like in At The Mountains of Madness, the Elder Beings (I forget which ones they were) the archaeologists set loose went back to the old city hidden in the Antarctic mountains, there the explorers find 6-feet tall blind penguins and one of their Elder Beings that became lunch for a Shoggoth. The explorers get chased by that shoggoth, but they use the penguins as a distraction to get away. It's likely the shoggoths destroyed that civilization and lived.

  • @dantehunter Shoggoths are basically protoplasmic lifeforms created by an ancient race of starfish-looking, extremely tough aliens for the purpose of enslavement. At the time, this worked well, but the shoggoths began breaking free of their masters' hypnotic control and developed minds. In H.P.L.'s works, they are all over the place, sometimes as beings cared for or summoned by wizards and also as a universal symbol of insanity which even Abdul couldn't bear to write about.

  • What the Hell? Every time I try to go down the ladder, he blocks it! How did you get him to let you pass?

  • Damn, that thing is ugly. Pretty good adaptation, though. Seems like most Shoggoth pictures I see look similar to this thing.

  • Ya shoggoths are blobs and can change there form so they can adapt to a situation, there eyes and organs form and de form over time but im not sure if they have a maw of any sort to eat people.

  • If they can mutate, then it's likely that they can grow a mouth if they need one.

  • They are constantly changing form and never have the same organs or tenticles for long but there most powerful mutation is when they mutate there own mind and attack there masters human or not.

  • He's also known as the howler right?

  • awesome thanks i've been trying this for days lol

  • I just beat the Shoggoth today, and DAMN was it freaky! It's really nice to have a visual aid to go along with the book descriptions, even if they are only one interpretation.

  • The greatest Lovecraft adaption ever.

  • The movie Dagon (2001) was actually pretty good too. Personally, I love it, but some call it a B-movie. Either way, it's going to be a cult classic. Loosely based upon the Innsmouth theme, which Call of Cthulhu was as well.
