they can't be compared because they are 2 sides of the same coin. Reed is a FREE safety. Polamalu is a STRONG safety. Their positions may sound similar but they aren't. all these guys comparing stats don't really pay attention to theses two all-stars, i say this because stats are nice on paper and all but that is all that they are, the real way to know who is the best safety is by seeing who makes the most impact to the game, like creating turnovers in situations that are really needed or impacting the offense's strategy because they have to account for the safety's playmaking abilities

@khalilasbro now I know you're nothing more than a homer... Harrison, Timmons, Woodley... our linebacking core is ridiculous. I left off Farrior because he's getting old and has lost a step, but he's having a good season this year. Ike Taylor is an above average corner, he just drops too many picks. Clark is ok. Hampton is one of the most dominant nose tackles in the game. Keisel is so-so. Aaron Smith is ok, but past his prime. McFadden could be upgraded, and William Gay stinks.

@khalilasbro I think you're mistaking the Steelers for the Patriots or Cowboys... and I have never said Polamalu was better. I only ever said that I would personally take him, but I recognize that my Steelers' bias has a lot to do with that. I think Reed is a beast.

@FredTaylor28Fan Ed Reed has a significant advantage in games played than Troy... hence the Favre/Brady comparison. And your second statement is laughable. Most players don't start as rookies. And those that do are usually put in a set of circumstances that forces them to start... Most coaches would prefer to groom a player for a season or two prior to letting them start... unless there is a glaring hole that needs addressed immediately.

and you were cleverly deceptive. firstly, you took into account a one season advantage for Reed... but not Polamalu's rookie season in which he didn't start. to form a truly fair comparison, you need to take the game averages, that tells you what you can expect from each man in any given game... which is what my video did. if you do that, you will find that the two are much more comparable than most of the people on this thread are admitting.

@chuckhowe ok, but you have to be held accountable for missing games...I took away a full year Ed had in the league...now you want me to literally lower him to Polomalu because Polomalu missed games? That doesn't make sense to me. If that is the case, then we must also take in to account Ed has missed games...or didnt play in games due to injury...i mean we can go around and around if we want...but feats are feats, and ED has more than Troy at the end of the day.

Reed has missed 16 games to injury and Polamalu has missed 21, but without taking those games into account, Reed has a 32 start advantage on Polamalu, you only accounted for 16 of those in order to make your comparison. Ed has started for 9 seasons to Polamalu's 7. The coaching staff sat Polamalu during his rookie season only playing him in situational defenses.

Ed's feats are impressive, but Troy does something that makes you say "DAMN!" every game.

@khalilasbro Has more what ?!?! I see troy making the Ravens look silly all the time. Ed Reed is the better ballhawk, but Polamalu is the better play maker. A big thing to consider is how they do vs. rival teams look up highlights for that i bet you find alot of troy and not reed. Plus troy has a more bling on his hand than reed, he would know considering one of them rings was thanks to polamalu taking it house against the ravens in the AFC Championship.
