Yes exactly. You can use a towel or rope for grip development also along with a kettlebell feel. This will force you to snap the hips to keep the weight parallel with the rope or towel. If using the arms, the weight will just hang.
Grueling. Are the weight numbers for each db or total of both? Suggestions: 1- Stance look's kind of narrow for your height which prevents your hips from opening up. Try the squats with the same stance of the swings.
2-loop a rope through the db and do swings.
I had some surgery a month ago and haven't quite come back from it yet.
