This and "Be Near Me" and "When Smokey Sings" were their only big hits. I must give them props for best use of the terms "Hip, hip - hurray! Yippie-aye, yippie-aye ay-ay".
i remember in the 1980 pulling 2 girls ....took them both home and put lexicon of love on the record player ....left the arm up and it was still playing at 8 am ......good times
@6inbox Yeah, but there was a lot of crap that came out in the '80s, too. Sure, it was million dollar crap, but crap nonetheless as far as my preferences go. I remember having to endure MANY top 40 songs, hair band junk, and the like just to be treated to a song like this on MTV. There's some pretty decent songs out now, but not much to get excited about. We need a music revolution like the late 70s and the early '80s saw.
So is this what walking through Central Park on Acid is like? Nuns flying around, people floating, finding an electric plug in your Spagetti, wearing spagetti, and barber shop quartetes? If so... I really have to move to New York. ;)
Classic Jam!! This was 1982-83, the year of the Brits: Culture Club, Madhouse, Dexys Midnight Runners, the Clash (an old punk group who had a resurgence in the US), the Human League, etc.
The video was also about 15 years ahead of its time. They don't make them like these guys anymore
I remember going to the Plitt in Century City back in 1983. I was going out with a pretty Jewish girl and we were waiting to see "Scarface" and this song came on as we waited for the movie to start.
@Edam3000 What a dumb question. It's like asking why Marty Robbins sang of Felina the Mexican girl that he fell in love with in the number one song "El Paso" Assuming you are old enough to remember thle song!
@Edam3000 I do not see the issue unless you have a problem with Jewish people! I could of said I went to see the movie with a pretty Colombian girl. Who cares!
Loved ABC for years and years!! But this video perplexes me! Is it cheap, or is it supposed to look cheap? Did the record company pay too much for the lush ABC film 'Mantrap'? "OK lads, we spent most of the budget. For the video we rented some cardboard sets, a paper clown suit, and an old Punch and Judy stand." lol I do like that hungry crocodile in that part!
@clube20 Trevor Horn produced Lexicon of Love :) Strange, but this video feels in many ways better than what they do today regardless musical style and it has nothing to do with nostalgia. This doesn't feel pretentious and pompously arty eventhough it has a lot of references to various old style entertainment.
ahead of its time man

1982's Lexicon of Love was one of the great albums of the 80's!
ABC= Lush melodies, romantic lyrics, and a wonderful union of classical music and pop.
A very distinct and appealing sound to this group!
I saw them perform at a night club in Toronto in 2007....they still had the magic!
Thanks guys for a lot of great memories growing up in the 80's!
