Absolutely amazing. One of my favorite pieces of all time has just become even more memorable. Perfect! (Would love to hear another Stravinsky bit, Petrushka or even the Firebird?)
wow, i think wamy sounds lame, very lame. I would have much preferred it mostly clean, with some parts with distortion, but no octave dividers and phasers. Are you using chorus? ...
@NevinJarek You have to do with what you have on board, that's the rule ! No chorus used. Clean won't work, it respects too much the natural sound of the guitar, which is not the point here ! ;-)
@beedoovideo Well, timbre isn't such an important element as the ones intrinsic in the particular piece. I still believe it would have sounded better with different effects, and a bit lower at the octaves at times. Still it is the best non-orchestral version on youtube.
@NevinJarek , How can you possibly criticize this work? have you seen this score? the variety of timbres he is using to create this out of a handful of sound options is remarkable. show a little love for the effort involved to recreate this piece, We all wish we had state of the art gear and mastering tools.
@BillWalkerGuitar Im not criticizing the 'work', I know its a lot of work, I have seen the score and I have worked on it on my piano. Im just saying that I think the whammy sounds lame. Sounds like a sponge bob funny thing to me. I think it would have sounded better with only distortions, or clean, I just dont like whammy...
Well done, this is absolutely fantastic, an exemplary demonstration of the universe of sound available to the modern guitar player. Couldn't have picked a better piece, either.
@RegencyAvenue That's a polychord (two chords sounding at once) of E underneath, and an Eb7 above. Probably double (or multi) tracked for guitar. From bottom to top - E-G#-B-E-G-Bb-Db-Eb.
The sounds it creates is something called polytonality - in this case bitonality.
Clearly a labor of love! I like that in general you're not trying to duplicate all the instrument timbres as precisely as possible but rather trying to capture the spirit of each change of instrumentation.
This track will certainly be included on the forthcoming Classical Animals album. You may check 125Studio on Youtube, or simply type Classical Animals.
awesome, totally awesome!!! very professional and it adhered to the standards of classical musicians MUCH better than these other guitarists that try to turn bach into heavy metal.
I'll be conducting this work in May. I am REALLY enjoying this version. I'd like to see a video of you actually playing this ...

Holy crap, here I was expecting the rocked up version of fantasia and you somehow got a guitar to sound just like the original orchestra instead.

Seriously, the sounds, timing, even the levels are perfect. I don't know how you did this but it is an amazing feat.
On the drum parts, are those just drums or some sort of more amazing guitar magic?
akarosebud 2 years ago 2
Thanks !
For the timpani, I used 3 guitar sounds :
- Dead notes strumming for the attack
- 2 octaves down (whammy) with open strings for bass resonance
- Crossed strings for the drumhead sound.
