I do not believe that people "cave in" to societies preferences as Sandel suggested. For instance a short person would probably prefer to be tall but it wouldn't simply be because society prefers it. Rather it would likely be because the short person himself, regardless of societal pressures, would prefer to be tall. Another example is myself. I am a male with short hair. I do not wear my hair short because society tends to prefer it, I do it because I prefer the way I look with shorter hair.
I disagree with Sandel's last point on challenging prejudices. Prejudices are always going to exist. Prejudice itself is very natural. It helps humans protect themselves from potentially dangerous situations. And by the way favoring tall people, or people with blue eyes, or dark hair, or tan skin is not a prejudice; It is a preference. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a preference. If society tends to favor a certain trait, I don't see the problem with trying to have that trait.
i really think that eugenics is the future for mankind, its going to give us a push forward into the future that we so need, especially in times like these when the stupid are reproducing faster than the smart. Its almost rediculous to think somehow that eugenics is a tool of fascism.eugenics is about improving mankind, so that we can look forward to a better world.
One of these guys says we should not make desicions based on cultural or religious values. But this is the only bases I have why this may be dangerous. This is AMAZING.

Which cultural values do you think make designer children problematic?
I agree that moral decisions are linked inextricably to values. I think to persuade anyone that you are right, you have to somehow appeal to values that both of you share, or at least make them see why values you hold are important.
yep, I agree. he says separate ourselves from culture when making a moral decision. This is impossible because we cannot be certain how much of our view are influenced by culture. How could we know?
Second, it seems to me that morals cannot be justified aside from religion, but one of these men would have us set aside these preconditions. This is very dangerous it seems.
Honestly, I don't mean to be cliche, but this does feel a little like Nazi Germany.
I'm not so sure it's better just having children randomly born with dozens more disabilities just so they wouldn't blame their parents on them. It's just opting not to repair something because you're afraid you can't make it perfect. It'll still be a hell of a lot better.
Great video series. Thanks for posting this. I'm a bit too lazy to search for these things so it's nice that someone is doing the effort. :)
No problem. And thanks for contributing to the discussion. It's an interesting topic that tests our moral intuitions and reasoning. I'm hoping more people will follow your lead and share their thoughts.

There was actually a clip of it in Part 5. If you haven't watched the rest of the video, I think you'll enjoy it.
