I am a new member in the family of Steve Reich fans...this version of the "Daniel Variations" is my favorite piece. I listen to it again and again and it does not stop to go under my skin. The great conductor, the fantastic musicians and this beautiful composition form a unit which really equals perfection. Many people think there is no perfection. I do not think so---this piece shows that they are wrong. Magnificent!
@amistrymister Right! Absolutely love the way Reich builds movements, particularly in the Variations series, on minor and major chord cycles the same intervals apart, & it happens on a sixpence! So beautiful. The CD recording of Mvovement 2 just doesnt do the music justice, making your video much much appreciated - its obviously great to have the visual aswell :) This is a fantastic performance, & I love watching Brad Lubman conduct it, especially when he brings in the bass piano chords!
Gorgeous! Love the orchestration, especially those four black limos parallel parked in a row and the sound they make! Wonderful piece. (We have Igor to thank, too; without Les Noces, neither Carmina Burana or this work would be as we know them.)
@OhSweetBabyJesus: When you heard John Adams' "On the transmigration of souls," were you glad thousands were murdered? Memorial pieces are composed after the fact, idiot. Best regards.

Favorite this if your name is Daniel and you think it's cool when they same your name and you almost answer them when they say Daniel......Because that's what I did.
@moredoughnuts01 this is NOT a minimalist piece of music, but I agree with you! he is indeed bold, and this is a bold piece of music, but it is NOT minimalist.
@amistrymister Oh, no, you are certainly correct! When I wrote that I had been listening to a ton of his other works and the thought was on my mind. It certainly doesn't apply to this piece, though! This is beautifully crafted!
Esto es Impresionante!

Steve Reich est un des grands compositeurs de notre ère.
Son esthétique est singulière, des harmonies à couleur unique, dignes d'un musicien de grands talent!

Boldness is the key to minimalistic composition in my mind, and Mr. Reich is very bold to say the least.

@amistrymister of course it is
minimalist
you can play on the words, but Steve Reich uses repetition of patterns essentially
it is not only minimalism because of its complexity, but a part of it is

It really must be. Steve Reich's harmonies are rather difficult and odd.

@Losloth I take that back. His harmonies aren't odd. They're amazing.
