  • R Wainwright is my lost brother; that is the only explanation for what I feel with this boy's work.

  • I've been listening to this particular song for over a week, deeply touched. Im so glad there is an artist who actually gives a fluke about Melody!!!! love what he does, i might dare to say he's saved my opinion on "pop"... si jolie découverte :)

  • I want to see him live soso bad

  • what a song!!....and Rufus wow

  • good *****

  • this is so, ridiculously stellar.

  • His phrasing, breathing, well, just everything about his delivery is such a gift to the World. His melodies stick in my mind and bring me joy all day long. The studio version of Agnus Dei takes my breath away. I've been a fan since his first album. No one like him out there performing with such joy. Love him, his sister, his mother and his father. What a family!

  • Marlus de Vries produced the song, not wrote it.

  • He's so deliciously gay.

    I love it. 8D Go Rufus~!

  • "i was the youngest for a long time, so i have to kill it." sums up Rufus perfectly.

  • At first I thought hes an elton john rip-off, but now i think its pretty good

  • Sorry for pissing on everyone's comments about how amazing Rufus Wainwright is, but as a composer myself, it really hits a nerve when people mistakenly attribute a masterpiece such as this to the wrong composer. Marius de Vries wrote this song, not Rufus. He only performed it. Although he does a GREAT job capturing the emotion that Marius wrote it with.

  • @Miraclewiizard Rufus wrote this song and has stated that it is a deeply emotional song to him. He also composed it. Obviously, everyone needs help producing and moving themes and parts around, and that's what Marius did, produce and help smooth the song out. But anyway, i'm open to being wrong (sometimes), so please let me know where you seemed to have learned this.

  • @Miraclewiizard nope Marius produced this song and its album- Rufus wrote it.

  • @Miraclewiizard Rufus wrote this song. Marius produced it and its album.

  • @Miraclewiizard I have the album this song is on - "Want One." It was produced Marius de Vries, and the insert states clearly, "All songs written by Rufus Wainwright." Not only that, but in an early documentary on Rufus, Marius talks about the songs on Want One, how Rufus cranked them out with such ease, and how fun it was to play around with them in the studio. As the "goldnight" stated in the previous reply, this song in particular is very autobiographical. He definitely wrote it.

  • I'm a singer songwriter myself and as a musician, this has to be the most original masterpiece I got to listen to. Without a doubt. Period.

  • this song is frigging god-like. rufus is a genius at work amongst us all

  • Very Billy Joel of him. Wonderful composition and a great sample of all his different progressions in his style repatoire. I know I spelled that last one wrong. Who cares. Rufus, look me up brother, I wrote these songs 20 years ago, just waiting for the break man. Sean Lennon told me he would call, but never did. He was too busy with his girl in Chiba Mato or however you spell it. You email me dude!. Heh.

  • Loving this!

  • love rufus x

  • I do agree!

he is definetly the one and only after Freddie...

actually, what makes me love him even more is the fact that he is the only musician i can imagine that could have written something like Bohemian Rhapsody!

  • Right here is some of the best songwriting in popular music since Freddie died.

  • this has to be my favorite song of his!! i <3 u Rufus!!!

  • i agree - he is very sexy! i lurve yuuu rufus xx

  • he's so sexy lol

  • even with the sideburns

  • Maybe the best song of the entire '00s...?

  • Amazing! Rufus is incomparable!

    where is he at???

    cute to

  • So close to the frequency of the Universe Musically.....If it was intentional, then it's beyond brilliant....if it wasn't intentional, then it's the most intuitive piece of music ever!

  • I have no idea what the eff you're talking about but it sounds right to me!

  • Such a brilliant song, such a talent....

The beginning is great, I love him. He would be an amazing gaydad.

  • This song is so under valued. It is one of the greatest songs ever written.

  • Hey Irma, you're so right. How many times have I voted for this as the greatest song ever written. x

  • The kingdom of good (pop) songs (Andy Partridge)... Elvis Costello, Neil Hannon, Neil Finn, James Mercer, Elliott Smith, Ron Sexsmith, Gilberto Gil, William Sheller, Nilda Fernadez and Rufus Wainwright

  • surely you have forgotten Jeff Buckley?

  • don't forget Aimee Mann in that list !

  • I second Elliot Smith. and putting Rufus in the same light :)

  • So do I. It's great songwriting, it is real, and it is pretty freaking rare.

  • Preciosa canción!!! y la interpretación está excelente!!!!

  • Thanks for the video, my husband put this song on the cd he made for our trip the day he proposed... I have loved it ever since.

  • Good Memories. Yeah, this song is great. I Wish you guys the best.

  • Isn't Martha younger than Rufus? Great song, one of his best (which is saying something with this guy).

  • This song is massive...and has to be his finest work...but it's a tough call. Genius...no question.

  • Absolutely a Genius.

  • Best song in the world ever apart from Go Or Go Ahead which is on the same album!!

  • go or go ahead. quality!!

  • you are spot on Dermot!!!

  • I don't know what is but you got to do it

I don't know where to go but you got to be there!

    Best song!

  • Genius

  • Greatest song of the 21st Century...?

  • I had no idea he was gay!!! surprising but not disturbing! lol love ya rufus!

  • What is this video off of?! a dvd? Tv especial? I got to get it!!!

  • DVD. it came with the WantTwo album. I don't know if it is still packaged with it, i hope it is.

  • It isn't. I only bought Want Two a few weeks ago...

  • I bought it at hristmas and it came with the DVD. The DVD is concert footage from the Fillmore.

  • Is yours an American/Canadian version?

  • truly the best song that he has ever made!

  • Just been introduced to this artist and he has made a big impression on me. So good!!! Just bought his album "Want one" in fact.

  • He´s truly one of the best singers and composers in the whole world.

  • what is this song about anyways? i don`t know what it is :P

  • ...maybe drugs... but the listener decides:)

  • One of the best songwriters of our generation! What I also love is that he always pours his heart out when he performs!

  • I think at :49 little Gabby pooped her pants!

  • thanks

  • which album was this on? i have to buy it!!

  • such a talent old rufus! hey was that jeff buckleys drummer? i only caught a glimpse but it looked like him

  • this guy moves me... big time talent!

  • Rufus is my imaginary husband! LOL! Love this so much...

  • To anyone out their who hasn't heard his Release The Stars album, get your hands on a copy and give it a listen. There isn't a dull moment on it and it gives many of those tingly feelings that shout out "QUALITY!".

  • I just want to note that Rufus has gathered an audience from the youngest to the eldest. I am 67 and just knocked-out-nuts about his music, his artistry, that voice, that creativity, that scope and that charm. This is remarkable talent being embraced around the world. He gives such hope for music which is original, literate, challenging, majestic and life affecting.

  • Couldn't agree more, discovered him properly last year, what a talent.

  • I agree completely. I'm only 15!

  • Try reversing that number! and i still just adore him and his music for about the past year and a half and no sign of this passion waining (no pun intended)

  • 19. He's probably one of the very few musicians I'll listen to til the end of my life.

  • This song just knocks me out everytime I hear Rufus sing it. It so illustrates his brilliance at songwriting and performance but, even more, it strikes a deep chord I think with everyone who hears it.

  • Aw him and the baby! DAMN YOU HORMONES!!!!

  • My FAVORITE song...Thanks so much for posting this!!! I love him!!! :)

  • wolvehart is absolutly right, his music, his voice, his charisma, something if not all of them do weave the most amazing magic. It is totally addictive. I HAVE to hear his voice every day, maybe somehow he has transposed his addictions onto us in the form of him and his wonderful talent?

  • I too have to hear his wonderful voice and see his beautiful face every day.

  • He does something with his music that makes any addictive stuff a lower form of magic. So yes, I love this playful magic that sometimes has a message I don't quite yet understand but feel anyhow, in all parts of my body and spirit.

  • "This baby is taking over, and I`ve gotta go kill it!"

    LOL! Rufus is so funny!

  • great song from a great artist.

  • Although my husband has to admit that Rufus is highly talented in may ways, his singing annoys him. I can see why he would say that but I get more and more addicted to Rufus' voice and music with every song I hear. It's a marital dilemma in our household but what a sweet one it is. Thanks for feeding my addiction.

  • It's weird, most of my friends either LOVE Rufus or find his voice annoying...I don't get it! I would have a marital dilemma as well! lol! I"m addicted to Rufus...and I don't mind!

    ;-)

  • Oh, this song!! I saw him live a few months ago, and I think this was the first song he did...I just sat and sobbed through the first two songs...I was so overcome...he has such a beautiful voice, and presence....LOVE HIM!!!!

  • God I Love this song... and the composer as a matter of fact

  • this is really perfection, truly amazing!

  • this song has an awesome, weird flawless tune

  • Rufus became straight and marry me ASAP!

    love you

  • i saw rufus in birmingham last week. he is truly outstanding, i had goosepimples for 2 hours. rufus has a pure magnatism that even as a straight female i would love to just give him a huge cuddle he rocks my world as he brings music alive again. ps my husband and i danced our first dance to i dont know what it is on our wedding day so its very special to us...... we love rufus x

  • Life is beautiful when Rufus is singing!

"I have to go kill it" lol

  • magic. One of the best voices i've ever heard and also one of the best songs i've ever heard, all from one person.

  • same here

  • aww so cute when he's holding the baby! xD

    i totally love him

  • I love this man!!

  • Perfect song. We have the new Paul McCartney...no! I mean the new Elton John...No! He's just too different. We have a new Legend!!

  • i was on his concert in the old vic in London, it was just SOO cool and i am just 13 years old and now a fan!!

  • great :D

  • ha! yeah, same here.

  • God, what a lucky baby. I'd give my left kidney for piano lessons from Rufus.

  • Wonderful singer/songwriter/person, but does he have to breathe in between every bloody line like that?

  • um, have YOU ever tryed singing like that?! IT TAKES LUNGS. HE NEEDS AIR.

  • I'm a singer - and this guy has serious breath control...

  • what exactly is breath control?

  • I think it's that he breathes at the right parts, and can take in enough that he's not losing it part way through. (eg: hold a note for a really long time. He doesn't run out of air, no matter how little he breathes cause he takes in the right amount every time)

    At least I THINK that's what it means ^^;

  • Thanks : ]

  • This guy is incredible, both as a songwriter and performer. To correctly sing, breath control and breathing plays a big part both for phrasing (making a line all the way thru) and maintaining a pitch. he slays me, especially this song is its so beautiful.

  • breath control can be learnt by anyone given the time and will. this guy is gifted with an amazing voice. you cant learn that.

  • "I've gotta go kill it" love Rufus

  • I love his warped sense of humour too ;)

  • OMG hehehe i love this! + My fav song >__< THANK U SO MUCH!!!!

  • that was so cute with his little baby cousin at the beginning!
