That Wipeout is such a dead and sterile experience, why does it have to be so deadpan? Also the handling is bizarre; in F-Zero the speed you are travelling at does not affect your ability to be accurate and in total control - in Wipeout the speed totally clashes with the handling.
One of the best games ever! I am going to go play it again because this really makes me want to. I haven't played it for a few weeks. My friend and I unlocked everything in the game (except all staff ghost, we didn't care about them) and it was incredibly difficult. Especially mission 7 on very hard
Definetly - GX is such an unsung hero. I lost all my data a little while back, the Missions were so incredibly challenging that I haven't had the guts to go back and do them again.
Yeah, I remember 5 and 7 being extremely hard for me. The only reason I beat 3 was by snaking. And even 1 was almost impossible on very hard, I would always lose by a fraction of a second. I hope they are making one for the Wii, and I'm sure they will. I am hoping they announce it at this year's E3 convention.
I was selling my gamecube to a friend and I found out the hard way that the data is locked to one memory card. There is no moving or copying. I was like, eh, I'll just start over. I'm actually glad I did.
Sometimes you need a little kickstart like that to get you going again. Likewise I'm always glad to get back into something after a break....especially as 9/10 games these days are nothing but ego-massaging walkovers.
SEGA and Nintendo did an amazing job with F-Zero GX. Some find it hard to believe this game ran on a modified Super Monkey Ball engine (due to both games made by Toshihiro Nagoshi). The original SNES game inspired Nagoshi to make Daytona USA, Scud Race and other SEGA racers.
"You find it hard to believe it ran off the Super Monkey Ball Engine?"
Have you seen Monkey Ball's resolution and background graphics? Most beautiful and arty renders ever seen. Just because the monkeys themselves are geometrically simple doesn't mean the engine can't do better things.
I've never played the original game, so I've missed it, but I have played Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 on GameCube. But yes, I am fond of the wonderful visuals in the Monkey Ball games and you have a good point.
still in awe of this game, and look how well it aged!

Have to agree on the Wipeout statements here, Wipeout was slow, and you just had to slown down to do corners etc, horrible compared to F-zero
GX 4 Lyfe, and Bio Rex was the awesome!

seriously this game shits all over wipeout HD, and imagine if they made a next-gen f-zero, it would be fuckin amazing

I'm completely inept at using external viewpoints, it's only Outrun I'm able to play like that.

Placing the car setting all the way to max speed on Aeropolis?! You dog!
Then again, I'm not familiar with handling the Big Fang, so I guess maybe that's a good idea. I use my custom machine, personally.

AX is the arcade version of the game. Mostly prevelant in Japan, though.

Oh wait, you're talking about the AX Cup, not the AX version. My mistake.
