The Chinese Government is decisive to stop this so-called "democracy". How could a country progress if every now and then there are civil unrest, riot etc? If the Chinese government was really so decisive, why did they immediately after begin a series of reforms in line with what the people wanted in 1989? Reforms were accelerated after 1989. The Chinese government could see the need to respond even though they cracked down on these guys. If the Chinese government was really so decisive, why did they immediately after begin a series of reforms in line with what the people wanted in 1989? Today's China owes a debt to the people who died that day. What you have now is closer to what they wanted, than what Mao wanted. Read Mao's book (I know they don't teach it in high school anymore in China) and you will see what I mean. China has been tricked into capitalism, away from socialism.

Reforms were accelerated after 1989. The Chinese government could see the need to respond even though they cracked down on these guys. Chinese history is full of heroes who died in a loyal fight for the socialism their country claims to celebrate, but does not always live up to. I know for a fact that even today, this quiet and persistent struggle of the common people against corrupt bureaucrats goes on day by day.

A lot. The use of 'Private Security Contractors' (euphamism for mercenaries) in a (illegal) war is a grevous breach of the Geneva Conventions, and represents a corporatism of warfare. It is a serious step towards imperialistic fascism, and deeply troublesome. Mercenary companies are even developing their own intelligence agencies, without any real public scrutiny of their activities or scope. It is bad news, all around.

Let me know what they teach you about the Bay of Tonkin episode, and military reasons for secretly carpet bombing vast tracts in North Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, not to mention use of Agent Orange (it wasn't to defoliate!). The School of the Americas is also an interesting topic. I hope that, given time, your interests and perspectives will broaden; in as much as all education can be termed applied ignorance, all military schools surpass anything else.

Hello British friend, our government does respect our people, however the difference is is that they put the collective rights, the rights of the majority, over the rights of the few or individuals. in simplistic terms, everything is done "for the greater good".
this may sound completely ridiculous to your ears (and im not condoning 6/4 massacre), but IF the incident didn't happen, china would not be in its position today, as a great world power with millions out of poverty. that is for sure.

The reason why i think that is because if 6/4 did morph into a successful democracy movement, the pace of social change and economic development could have never matched the pace which has been set by the chinese communist party for the last 20 years.
this is bcus the policies set by our government (CCP) enabled the economy to prosper through state controls and guidance, which does not happen in a democracy (look at india today).

this is again "for the greater good". and depending on yur viewpoint, whether you like collective rights or individual rights (in my opinoin, both can be correct), you should not be quick to judge and jump to naive and simplistic conclusions on such a pivotal point in chinese history.
many westerns do NOT realise the protesting students (my parents for example) did NOT want a democracy like US or UK. they wanted continued CCP one party rule but with less corruption and more openess.
