Liked everything about the show only the animations was really bad for me... I still don't see the reason behind it.... To me personaly animation ( colors mostly on clothes and patterns ) were just so damn bad... If they'd just stick with "normal" animation and coloring would've given it 10/10 but the way it is now only 7/10

My guess as to why the patterns are screened in: most of the characters are aristocrats who would wear patterned clothing to show off their wealth. If Gonzo tried to animate all those patterns, the studio would have gone bankrupt after a few episodes. It really turned me off the first time and made me dizzy, but I stuck with it for the story and now like the animation, even if it is a little overbearing at times.

I'm about to watch this anime series. Normally I prefer to watch the dub because I can relax more while watching and I don't have to worry about reading everything. However, sometimes anime dubs come out rather badly. So, I would like your opinions. Can I watch the dub? Is it good quality? Or should I just stick to the sub?

This anime was so well adapted from the classic novel and wasn't a remake, but more a perfect retelling with a different perspective, alternate ending and supernatural elements! Great anime must see!!

gankusuou was spot on wit the book,there are some differences like the eugenie n albert relationsship n the counts death in gankusuou,in the book the count didnt die,Dantès leaves for an unknown destination to find comfort and possibly love with Haydée, who has declared her love for him at the end o the book,anyways,mercedes was spot on too,she never get the count back just like in the book,she went back to marseille n live alone by herself,only in movies where u get count n mercede happy end.

those weren't the only differences though. in gankutsuou it made it look like the judge's wife just went insane, when in actuality she snapped and killed not only herself but her little boy. also valentine wasn't the only one poisoned in the book, and she and her love were able to be together in the end and take care of her grand father. aww X3

plus there's the whole thing with changing the other cell mate with the demon gankustuou... *kinda fades off*

Actually, I watched the anime first and read the book second, and I'm really glad I did it that way. That way the anime totally shocked me because I didn't know the general plot of the book, and I could understand the book better than I probably would have.

I love this anime, there were so many twists in the plot, and it always had me second guessing myself. The art is beautiful, and overall is just a fantastic anime. I just finished it last night, and I'm sad that it's over. Now I'll have to check out the novel/manga =]

It's strange, but the anime is closer to the original stroy than the movie(2002 movie, I don't know if there are another movie).

I really like the book, the anime also it's awesome, but the movie is very very poor.

Well actually, the only way I've heard people use the word best with this anime, was that it was the best adaption of the novel. It really follows the book's plot the closest out of all movie or show adaptions of the Count of Monte Cristo.

But heck, if you're an anime fan, by all means, say that this is better than the book. It is for some. I just like the book.

yes and no to that, it deviates from the book quite a lot and is from albert's POV instead of edmond's, but that's not a reason to hate all anime! though it hardly sticks to the actual story in any way the art, voices and overall design of this version is quite lovely.

I'll give points for Gankutsuou for looks and staying accurate for the most part, but the ending felt like a climax unfinished. It had everything set up perfectly, but the ending was executed so poorly that it felt like Edmond died for nothing.

Edmond died before the actual anime. edmonds death was inevitable the moment he accepted to become gankutsuou.

That's sort of the point. Edmond died for nothing, because he died for revenge. He was lifted from his hatred at the very end, but the hate in his heart and his health being consumed by Gankutsuo was inevitible. Hateful vengeance will not bring you a satisfying death.

That's beyond the point. The point is Edmond let hate consume and rule him, even after he had full knowledge that there was people who still loved him (Haydee, Albert). He refused to accept their love and clung to his hate, and in return it destroyed him.
