I was born in 1950, I saw this show when it was first aired. I'm a huge Scotty Beckett fan. When I was in high school I heard he killed himself. A very sad day. Search "The Happy Years" on you tube to see another Scotty Beckett classic!
So this is Scotty Becket's own voice --so why could he not do his own singing in The Jolson Story? His voice sounded almost the same as Rudy Wissler's ( who dubbed him ).
Probably most likely that at the time Scotty was going through adolescense and his voice was most likely changing.I'm sure if his singing voice had been up to par at the time Scotty would have sung all those songs from The Jolson Story himself, instead of Rudy Wissler doing them.
Well, thank you, that is one possible explanation. But he looks older here, so would his voice have changed from a higher soprano? I'd like to see more of Scotty. He is CUTE!
If you check out his movie A Date With Judy you will see that Scotty had the talent in all the world when he sang. And this was 2 years later after The Jolson Story. His voice during Jolson Story was just going through changes, and he couldn't hit the high notes just yet. That is why Rudy Wissler took over his vocals in Jolson Story.
It's still a heck of a lot better than that garbage on the tube these days. I wonder why no one has ever ressurected this show like everything else. Valerie Bertinelli would make an excellent Cleolanthe!
No insults, but Scotty was more like a male version of Lindsay Lohan before there was ever a Lindsay Lohan. Scotty was a sad case with drugs and alcohol. All the talent and all the insanity wrapped up in one person. In the middle of filming Rocky Jones, Scotty was arrested on a weapons charge. Scotty personified Hollywood consuming its young.
Musical Instrument cobbled together with an Orbit Jet and Space Station prop from the series. CLASSIC.
BTW.. the celeste was a rather popular accompanyment in pop music during the early 1950's.

I remember watching Rocky Jones when I was real young. I know it might seem corny now but, it was cool back then.

"Winky, unplugged!"
This was suggested as a weapon to the Emperor in Star Wars, but he considered too evil, even for him.
