Fucking amazing opening! The band that comes close to this epic-ness is Heavenly on their debut album with "Coming from the Sky", but it's not as good as this...
I remember a funny story connected with this album :) Back then my school teacher wanted the whole class to go to church so we can have good year or something. When we were in there everybody was looking at me so strange even the preacher ... he had some amazed face i swear ... and later when i went out of the place I've noticed that i am wearing the t shirt from this album :D Eddie with the axe and the blood in the church.Hella of weird moment lol :>
@ESKELET0R CLose, but no. Adrian Smith was in the band during the Killers era. Stratton left after the first album. I believe the first solo is played by him in this song.
Thanks very much for such nice graphics. Really liked the way you added the lyrics. I actually never understood all of them until now! Even though I probably did read them when the LP came out. ha! Anyway, HAPPY IDES OF MARCH!
I STOPPED LISTENING TO MAIDEN AFTER KILLERS. MAIDEN BECAME A OPERA/METAL BAND WHEN BRUCE STEPPED IN. NOTB WASNT BAD, IT JUST WASNT AS GOOD. PD IS MAIDEN,PERIOD.
Many people think that the only good Maiden Times are those from Bruce's era. I say that both of the first two Iron Maiden records are great too. I prefer Bruce's era to Paul's one, but I love Killers and Iron Maiden records. My favorite Maiden record is The Number of the beast. I really love Powerslave, Seventh son of a..., Piece of Mind, Live After Death, Fear of the dark and Brave New World, and a few songs of Blaze's era like Futureal, Lord of the flies, man on the edge and The Clansman.
On last Friday, Paul Dia'nno was here in Brazil and began his show that way! It was a celebration of the 30 years of the first Iron Maiden album. Even though those songs are not in the first Iron maiden album, he played them
It's really amazing this sequence of songs! Now I'm Running free as a Wrathchild.
Awesome, thanks for the upload! Its good to hear those 2 songs back-to-back. I love most different eras of Maiden, and I love Bruce just as much as Paul, but this has got to be my fave album of theirs. Too many great songs on it, and too many memories of those times.
I've always had this strange idea that after Paul and Clive were kicked out of Iron Maiden, that they would start a band together and get Dennis Stratton, Paul Samson, and Chris Aylmer (both of Samson, the band bruce was in before Maiden) to join in and become a rival band of Iron Maiden, though I'm not sure what they would have called themselves.
@power6slve Pal and Clive started a band with Pete Willis (After he got kicked out of Def Leppard), and Janick Gers. The band was called Gogmagog. But they never got very far.
Have this one on LP still as well as Numbr of the Beast and Piece of mind. Even in the early days with Paul on the first 2 albums there was signs of greatness to come such as these 2 songs.... and Steve's Bass lines when Wrathchild starts are catchy as hell make you "air guitar" instantaneously. Up the Irons! (from a longtime "bloody yank!) haha
I can listen to these 2 tracks over & over till I fry........I was there at the beginning....packing places like the Palladium in NYC...or Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ.......they opened for Priest on the British Steel Tour.....fuckin animalistic performances.....at that time they wanted but to play metal....and they did....without the help of a hand waving bad spandex wearing singer like the one who took over after Dianno left
I'm a late fan. I just started enjoying Maiden the last 2 years or so. As a newer fan, this is essential Maiden. I'm 47 and a metal head. Better late than never!
@stivick11 yes my friend it is better late than never... im 17 and iv been rocking out to maiden for around 3 years now... welcome to the ranks of the iron maiden army my friend
@Razor745 God i cant imagine not hearing this while cruisin down the streets full blast on my stereo(cassette) player in Denim and Leather-4 people with a beer in their laps--wtf was a DWI in 82? i had cops tellin me "just dont let me see you again tonight!!!" ok dude!- rippppppppp
@demon8inc why wrong era? you can still listen to them today cant you? society doesnt change from era to era, but evolves, if u are born now, u can experriance everything in human history up to this point, born in the 80's, u would have missed out on all the cool shit we have come about in the last 30 years...any way, UP THE IRONS
Samson used an alternative version (this is far superior) because they both had Thunderstick in their band. He was in Maiden first and took the intro to Samsom where they actually put their version on record first. This version is different enough to not confuse the two and is the only one we need.
the ides of march, first maiden song I heard, a day I will never forget. damn the atmosphere of Killers is amazing is fucking night, aggresive with blood and some breath of fear, in a fucking cold terrifying night. it makes me think of places like the cover of the album; when I walk by places like that, I feel Killers.
haha great comment, I can also Hemember the first day/song i listened to, I was a reall metallica fan at that time untill I listened to fear of the dark, I was totally sold at that time
I still love Metallica. In fact if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be listening to any hard rock or metal. Well, actually, I kinda liked Maiden before that, but I'd only ever heard Run to the Hills. Glad I listened to more stuff. METAL UP YOUR IRONS! (Cross between Metal up your ass and Up the Irons)
@zalmoxes666 Okay let's be honest, NONE of those bands are on the same level today that they were back then. And Metallica died in 91. A new band named Selloutallica took their place.
@chickenfetus4 Yes i agree with you, the old Maiden are the real Iron Maiden if know what i mean. The newer albums are not very similar to others (olders) albums.
It's like modern metal, i don't realy like that as i like the olders album. Understand?
@themosmitsos Oh I know. If I was going for the greatest metal bands I would have included Sabbath, Testament, and Exodus too. But the point of the list was me combining all of the catch phrases from fans of each band. "Fuckin' Slayer", "Metal Gods", "Metal Up Your Ass", "Up the Irons", and "Thrash till Deth". At least, that's what I've noticed.
Hell yeah !!jokera7x20 knows what he's talking, number of the beast, piece of mind and powerslave are all great-but you gotta see where they started off at.Killers, iron maiden and maiden japan are just insane records!!
