  • If I can read Michael Connelly, I'm willing to try!

  • very, very nice book list!

  • uglies is sooooo good.

  • A Clockwork Orange, Of Mice and Men, Middlesex, and Fight Club. Excellent. I didn't enjoy Augusten Burroughs, but really recommend you read more Chuck Palahniuk. Invisible Monsters is really, really, very good.

  • I read like a hundred books a month.

So, I got this contest in the bag.

  • I average 100-200 books a year. You may want to look up "GoodReads' which has many readin challenges. You have a very good stack there...best of luck! Roseann

  • You are so adorable. I hope you read those books! I'm not sure how old you are but if you are over 18, which I am assuming, I will go ahead and say that you are very very pretty, as well.

  • seriously? 50 books in a year? You don't even have to read a book a week to do that. not only doable but amazingly easy.

  • @AlexisKatchuk Some books requires savoring, mulling over to fully get the sum of the work. In fact, some books are due repeated reads. A book is not something to get past in order to get to the next read. Better than a year's reading goal is a lifetime reading list like that susgested by the late Mortimer Adler. My own list includes obvious classic writers like Shakespeare,Homer,Tolstoy, etc. along with more ambigious choices like Ayn Rand,Anne Rice, etc. But I do like the idea of reading goals.

  • @sleedolfine15 I'm well aware that books require savoring. I have my Master's in English and am now getting my PhD. And you might want to move Ayn Rand from "ambiguous" to "classic" seeing as how her works are anything but "ambiguous" in the literary circle and her works are considered classics.

  • @AlexisKatchuk I hope that my comments did'nt come across as critical of you. That was not my intention. I was merely making a statement of personal educational philosophy. As for Rand,I put her in the ambiguous catagory because inspite of her work's influence(Tea Party,Libertarianism, etc.)and survivability(never out of print) she is treated dismissively by many. I personally found Atlas Shrugged & the Fountainhead to be brave & powerful works.

  • 50 books in a year sounds totally do-able thats like a book a week..... did you ever finish?

  • What's the name of the blue book with yellow letters?

All I could read was "Everything is.."

  • @hEll0itSERiKA it's called "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer. EXCELLENT book. I highly reccomend it.

  • Great job! I do daily book reviews and read profusely... found this video from searching "Gregory Maguire Mirror Mirror" because I just a did a video on it today :)

  • thanks so much for making this video! I have been trying to find a video on youtube containing a list of substantial (meaning not fluff) books to read and this really helped me! i had no idea about the 50 book challenge. so thanks for enlightening me :)

  • @emmmi8 Hey, just so you know I do a book review every day on my channel... it's nice to see that there are people on YouTube who appreciate the written word :)

    Katrina

  • @emmmi8 I can't promise they're all thick reads, but I enjoyed most of them anyway!

  • middlesex is amazing! read it first

  • @acmack12 really? i tried to read it sooo much. i got halfway through and gave up :(

  • I luv reading i finish books in like 2 days that y im on a high reading level =] & im in 6th grade

  • Yeah, it's a lot easier to trawl through books when you're young - so much time. Difficult fitting in around your degree and job though!

  • Its possible to read 50 books in a year.

The more you read the faster you can read. I read everyday. I can go through a 300 paged book in three days max. 900 pages in around eight days.

Keep reading and you'll build speed :)

  • i doubt you people can read 50 books in a year. it takes me at least a week to read a book over 300 pages because i read slow.

  • You have to plan out the time you spend with books. A 300 page book should take you 3 days at 100 pages per day. My goal is always 100 pgs per day, so even a huge tome (700 pgs) should not take more than a week. I try to shy away from books that are more than 500 pages because I want to read at least 2 books a week. On average I read about 100 books per year. You just have to plan it out like everything else. Happy Reading !

  • but do you actually understand them?...and remember them?...

  • Yes I do. That comes with an IQ of 142, unlike your DUMB ASS. Tell me something, is jealousy painful? Read more, and you will have less time to attack those who out perform you !

  • Ah!...Dunning Kruger Effect...: )

  • I'll respond by email.

  • lolz.

  • : )

  • lmao, I finished the last Harry Potter book in the course of 4 hours.

  • Yeah there are like 52 weeks in a year - of courseits possible.

  • If I had all the money in the World,I would buy endless books!

  • I read WAY,WAY,WAY more than 50 books in a year. I LOVE to read! On my page, I have a list of books(but that's only a little bit,I've read way more! ) On your list,I've read the Uglies Series and Diary of a Teenage Girl Series(you put the book Meant to Be,but i've read all of them)

  • Ditto. I read 27 books all over 400 pages in 2 months of the Summer. And I've read 5 this week. Books r amahzing

  • Anyone can read a load of books like that. The trouble comes when you start reading more challenging books, Defoe, Dickens, Austen etc

  • u think they're challenging? try pynchon, joyce, and rand.

  • Sure, buy they've gotta start somewhere...

  • woah you really like reading....

  • I got to meet Melody Carlson..

She came to my cities library & put on a presentation

  • i read over 120 books in 7 months.

  • i read like 2,000 books a year. i read super fast. i once read a harry potter book in one day and understood it and then wrote a book report on it for school

  • I read over 200 a year.

  • That's crazy.

That's less than two days per book.

  • maybe it is crazy. oh well. :) sometimes i read only like 150-175....

  • well,if you read really fast like me,than it's not hard to read a Harry Potter book, for example,in two days or even one. That's what I do because I read so fast and I love to read. :)

  • "Everything is Illuminated" broke my heart, and was alltogether fantastic, I must say it's one of my favorites. Augusten Burroughs is amazing, and I have to suggest getting a start on "A Clockwork Orange" and "Fight Club". I'm amazed with your taste in books! Good choices! :)

  • I love smart hot girls....your really beautiful.....And I mean that all way

  • I read Of Mice and Men.

It was pretty okay. The ending

    was A SURPRISE. lol.

  • Fifty books in a year? Wow.

In my first year of uni I had to read three novels a fortnight so I get through quite a lot of books these days. I could do it :-D

  • I got about a third of the way through A Clockwork Orange before I gave up with frustration at the writing style. It's so hard to get through. I'd like to finish it one day.

  • Melody carlson is like...freakin soo good. I only readededed 5 but still. Luvs dem :^)

  • Melody Carlson is so AMAZING.

  • Oh! I should so join. XD lol.

    I love reading.

Most of the books that you have listed I have read already just in general lol. Taming of the Shrew, I just read with my english class. It was pretty good. I liked it. XD

  • offtopic: hello i started reading as off today "Memoirs of a Geisha chapter 6" and surprisingly i find it quite fun anyone has any tips off books i should read? ooh and i prefer the used words are somewhat similair to memoirs of a geisha because im not english as an example "the art of war" was hard for me to follow

sorry for hijacking your comment box jenn hope u wont mind. :)

  • wow i read like 200+ a year..i should join this club

  • well if you want to finish reading those books in a year instead of taking your time putting these dumb videos up you should be reading

  • where can u do this comp? and how long do they have to be? cuz i have tons of books i own but I haven't read.

  • Any size book, really, it doesn't matter. The website link is in the description and there is more information there.

  • My favorite part was..when it ended xD Yeah..yeahh

  • Those are actually a few of my favourite books. Will you let us know what you thought of them, pretty please?

  • yes, because that's productive.

  • I only read 8 books this year XD. no way near.

  • yea wooooooo

  • Ayn Rand? Eww . . .

  • Nice girl

  • Uglies really is an awesome trilogy,I read them all last year, the second one is called "Pretties"

and the third, "Specials" is very good. I have also heard a rumor about there being a fourth one coming up, called "Extras". Another good book by Scott Westerfeld is called "Peeps", and I'm currently reading the sequal to it, called "The Last Days".

  • Yep, Uglies is next on my list to read :)

  • I finished the whole uglies trilogy in school last year.I'm in 6th now.

  • good for you

  • i really like this idea, and i think this just may be my new years resolution this up coming january:]

  • hooray :) it's fun.

  • Possible Side Effects, by Augusten Burroughs, is great. I am listening to the audiobook at work at the library for like the third time :)

  • Yeah? I have Dry to read eventually, but there's some other stuff first.

  • cool new idea

  • thanks :)

  • how refreshing a nice girl, the kind you don't mind meeting your parents.

  • why thank you :)

  • 50 books a year i SO not hard! i dont even care to keep track, i just read read readreadread

  • I know for a fact that I read plentyof books. So much, I lost count, even through school. I love reading and sometimes there's nothing else to do.

  • keeping a goal really helps me stay motivated to start a new book right after i finish one...i also like to see what's on other peep's TBR (to be read)list...lol.

  • I agree with what other people are saying, I would have to set myself a higher target, like 200 books in a year. I already read over 50 :)

  • i found this community, but have no idea how to get started.

  • just to let yah know, i can read a book a day in the summer..and thats with doing a million other things and they aren't stupid books either, they're like jane austen and victor hugo kinda stuff..and i can read a book a week during the school year..and ive pretty much read all those books you held up.

  • that's great. go read.

  • i can read up to 20 books in a month without trying

  • good for you.

  • I just started reading the girl with the pearl earing. Does anyonw know where I can get the list of books?

  • You mean the ones in this video? The ones I showed are over in the description section if you press (more) :)

    -Jenni

  • no no. Because not all tjhe books atre there. I mean is there a list of all 50 somewhere?

  • there are no specific books you have to read, just any 50, so there's not an official list or anything :)

  • well that sucks. thanks lol.

  • I suggest going to your local library and finding out if they have a book club or reading list going on. Lots of libraries have summer or other reading programs -- I do hope you will dive into reading, it's really very rewarding and you can learn more than you think that is relevant or can get you a job... Good Luck and Enjoy! ;)

  • I've allways been a big reader lol but I will.

  • Great concept..I love your book choices...Fight Club, A ClockWork Orange, Memoirs of a Geisha, all great books!

    JC :-))

  • i compleatly recomend Everything is Illuminated, it is so beautifull

  • yeah, that's what I'm reading right now and I love it.

  • oh sweet, have you seen the movie?

  • yeah, before I started reading, but I don't remember it much, so I'll have to rent it.

  • i loved "snow falling on cedars" and "pride and prejudice". have always wanted to read "a clockwork orange". not really interested in "under the tuscan sun" book.

  • now if you started reading this dont stop its really scarey!ok send this to five other videos in 143 minutes. When you are done press F6 and your crushes name will apear on the screen in big letters this is weird because it does work.If you break this chance you wont have a crush in the next five years

  • That's a really cool idea. I might try to do something like that over summer vacation. I also like the selections of books you chose.

  • Taming of the Shrew, Pride and Prejudice, Fight Club, and A Clockwork Orange are AMAZING books! And after you're done, you have to watch the movies! Good luck with the reading!

  • A Clockwork Orange is absolutely brilliant... I'd suggest watching the movie as well if you haven't already :)

  • Uglies is a really good book.

  • I finished Middlesex a couple of months ago and it's fantastic. It's hard to get into but stick with it!

  • Middlesex is one of my favourite books. Great idea this, and you've picked a good mix of titles. Liked seeing all the different covers too, I work in a bookshop and they are all different in the UK. Yeah, sad I know...lol.

  • Great list! You should defiantly read pride and prejudice, of mice and men and especially the bell jar.

  • Highly reccomending: Uglies, Memoirs of a Geisha, haven't read Mirror Mirror, but Gregory Mcguire did Wicked and Son of a Witch, I'd reccomend those

  • hey I know a really good book its called Blood and chocolate and if you saw the movie it is like 100x better the book is always better

  • i'm doing this too, i'm on my 7th book. good luck! :)

  • good luck! In 2004, 2005, and 2006 I read over 100 books each year.

you chose some great titles. leave a message or something if you want my book lists.

  • Hey, I'll do this! Not sure if I can hit fifty but I can try!

  • I think this is a great idea. I'm doing a phd in literature which (perversely) means i don't get to read for pleasure much (i know!) ... so i think this would be a good thing for me to do. But maybe try thirty...

  • yeah, I know fifty is a lot!

  • Some people read over 100 books per year

  • I see that as a bit unrealistit. 50 books is a lot. there are 52 weeks in a year, and you'd have to pretty much read a book per week to accomplish it, so having 100 per year is just insane.

  • 50 books?!? It's nice to see that young people still read books. Keep it up, and write your own someday!

  • I usually wait till they make a movie out of the book. :) WHEN are you going to watch Anne of Green Gables? Geeeez I'll buy it for you. You will LOVE it! :)

  • Fight Club is awesome. I read it like twice.

  • It's an interesting list. I think you should add to your list two books more. "Como agua para chocolate" - Laura Esquivel. and "Marina" - Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I hope you like them.

  • i guess it depends on the type of book it is as to how long it will take i read 3 books last week

  • 50 books...I'm up for the challenge lol

  • you LIKE TO READ LoL :P I have never read that many books in my entire life unless school books count!

  • I am gonna take the Challange. I am going to do 50.

Could you give me more info on wher eyou saw the original idea. I'll do a video response to this, with my fifty books.

  • Yay, sounds excellent!
