You need a wider Gaussian blur on the white streak for the third layer, it creates a more pulsative result. I tried doing a larger blur say around 10 and the wider radius fades the inside creating that shining effect you see in the movies.

well you could, but you would have to do it frame by frame.... if you want to create lightsaber effects in a film, I suggest using LSmaker (free, just google it). I might produce a tutorial on how to use that soon. =]
