What's wrong with jogging? Even Sonic doesn't go all-out full-speed ALL the time, in ANY sonic game! In the old ones, he had the full-speed animation ALL the time, but BEING at top speeds wasn't done everywhere! I believe it likely that it'll make top-speed running look MUCH more like you're REALLY blazing through the zone!

Speaking of which, I hope Blaze appears in more games in the future. Her aerial styles contrasts Sonic's pure speed nicely, I think. Amy makes a good alternate too. ^_^

No worries then! It's been announced that it will be multi-platform:

Wii's Virtual Console, PS3/X-box 360 downloads, and "Some other".

(I've seen some things that claim the "Some other" is some iPhone app or the like... I have seen NO official data on what it is, and would personally burst into tears of sadness if it WERE some iPhone app (It's bad enough that they'd let it go onto the X-box; leave X-box to it's mass-murder games, I say.))

See, he's just not at full speed! I mean, come on; we ALL know that you don't play ANY Sonic game at full speed the WHOLE time (heck, some people NEVER actually get very fast, ESPECIALLY in the "classic"-style games! Rush excepted, BECAUSE of the Rush Bar).

I suspect that it'll be similar to Rush in that regard: he jogs until he's actually MOVING; likely to give a better feel for that super-sonic speed, when you are actually GOING FAST.

Sonic 3D games have not been rubbish...EVER! Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were actually really good, Sonic Heroes was good, Sonic Unleashed was great, and the Sonic Storybook games were good! The only crappy ones were Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog, although Shadow was passable. The only people who bitched about this sort of thing were those fanboys who thought the Sonic franchise was dying because of a couple of crappy titles. They are wrong! 3D works fine for Sonic. I do not believe that Werehog gimmick NOR the 3D games was the issue at all! The issue is that Sonic fans are too narrow minded to want gimmicks that now we are just going to have another generic Sonic 2D platformer that continues the original series. What was wrong with having Tails and Knuckles as playable characters, or even Shadow or Blaze?

By the way, no barrel was reached. Only when you were forced to get MEDALS to continue through the game!

I don't mind a few additional characters to Sonic's world. Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, etc...OK. But anymore than that and it gets too much. You didn't understand my comment. Sonic is allowed to have other characters, therefore this whole idea of Sonic being on his own in Sonic 4 is a rubbish idea! Every other Sonic game besides Sonic 1 and Unleashed had other characters, and they generally worked just fine. If you don't like them, you may as well choose not to use them Nevertheless, at least give other people a chance to use other characters they like.

Having Sonic on his own isn't a rubbish idea, because Sonic is always the focal point of the series (as he obviously should be). If you want to use other characters, there are plenty of other Sonic games available where you can play as them. But this new 2D game should be as close to the original as possible, which means Sonic is alone.

Sonic 2 and Sonic 3+Sonic and Knuckles had Tails and Knuckles as playable characters. There was nothing wrong with them. Tails could fly (in Sonic 3, you could fly with him), and Knuckles can scale walls and dig. They are also prime characters in the series. If you want some good replayabiltity, you may as well have them, especially if they were in almost every other game!

But oh well, it's too late, and now I'm probably going to be thumbed down for saying a legit thought.

It's more of WHY should EVERY character be in EVERY game? The HERO and MAIN CHARACTER of ANY SONIC (Note, the title: SONIC) game is... SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! Soo... WHAT is the problem with a game that features the Hero/Main Character?!

Like DarthCipient stated: If you WANT/MUST play other characters, then GET THE GAMES THEY ARE IN! If you CAN'T be happy with at least that, then I really doubt you EVER were happy with Sonic series.

Tails is a main character, and so is Knuckles. They are actually ESSENTIAL characters, because Tails is Sonic's closest friend/sidekick, whilst Knuckles is actually always the cause of trouble in the series, and somehow gets involved when his precious jewel isn't on his precious floating island. Yes, I agree that they shouldn't be obligated to have other characters, but at least have these other two. They were there at the beginning of the original series.

Ah, but note: It says "Episode 1". There's not much of an Episode 1 without an Episode 2! I see it as VERY likely that Sega's using this chance to make for a longer story than even Sonic 3 & Knuckles did! (And I thought that one went just fine! Get on Virtual Console ASAP! ^_^ )

Besides, I think it'll be nice to get fully re-acquainted with the World's Fastest Thing Alive! Long has been the time since he got to roam solo like he loves, and finally, he does! YAY!

Sonic 2 and 3 allowed you to play Sonic alone. It was an OPTION! I keep asking you: Why not make the other two characters optional again? Is that so hard to understand? You could have chosen just to play as Sonic, and that's it. But you can also satisfy other fans who love Knuckles for example. This is just me, alright. No one will make me see this any differently. Sonic has sidekicks, and they deserve to be there.

Sonic and Knuckles, I wll get. Also, the compilation on the NDS!

Great! I like variety too! But there isn't any "giving up" on ANY characters. Just enjoy the rest of the series while waiting for Episode 2, which will likely have additions. In the meantime, I will be enjoying a game that has a feel like the original Sonic. I like them ALL (NOTE THE WORD "ALL"; except Sonic 2006 and Unleashed), but it'll be kinda nice to have that pure basics one more time I think.

Keep in mind, it's a "touch to his roots". Just enjoy it!
