  • On an X58 chipset mobo, there is no difference between the marvell and the Ich10r for read write. The Ich10r performs better with a raid array then the Marvell raid array. Why don't you show a HD TUNE test with your Marvell and then with ich10r intell, oh wait you don't want people to laugh at your controller. Get the Z68 chipset using Sata 3-intel or wait for LGA 2011 using pci-e 3.0.

  • I "upgraded" my SSD from a 120gb SATA II to a 64gb SATA III just to find out that Marvell SATA III controller couldn't perform any better than my Intel SATA II controller. Tsk Tsk Tsk

  • I feel like a complete idiot in believing that the Marvell 9128 can deliver 6Gb/s as advertised and not doing research on it before I went out to purchase my 2 x Sata 6Gb/s SSDs

  • Marvell, all i have to say is: Poor form.

You guys screwed up royally. It should be illegal to advertise a "6gbp/s" SATA3 controller on the X58 chipset when all it uses is a PCI1x lane capable of no more than 500MBp/s without the overhead.

I've now got a vertex 3 that is not capable of surpassing speeds of 240 - 280MBp/s. I would've just bought a cheap SATA2 SSD if i knew performance would be this poor. I'm genuinely disgusted. Never buying your crap again.

  • @Bacender I TOTALLY AGREE. I have the same problem. Like your buying a ferarri and it can not drive above 120 km/h. Now i have to get a controller and spend one of my pcie port for this crap.........

Have you found a good solution Bacender?

  • @legerstee1 Yeah, just plugged the drive into one of the Intel controller ports. No more random freezing, no more system lock ups, no more hanging programs. Performance might not be 500MB/s, but at least it's more stable and usable. There is no solution to the Marvell 9123 and 9128 controllers... They're just not physically capable of pushing out decent speed due to the physical limitations of their design.

  • @Bacender

I TOTALLY AGREE and is also disgusted.

I feel like a complete idiot in believing that the Marvell 9128 can deliver 6Gb/s as it was advertised

  • Pitty the marvell driver is terrible compared to the intel rst driver. That's from comparing vertex 2e sata 3 in marvell sata 3 port on an x58 mobo, to the sata 2 port using intels rst driver. The difference is massive. Basically Marvell needs to sort their drivers out.

  • Why isn't the Marvell controller getting burst speeds closer to 600Mbps? I'm considering purchsing a motherboard with the marvell 9128 controller, specifically, the asus p6x58d-e. If the marvell controller shares lanes with the PCI express bus, would this limit the max bandwidth? Why are people online saying the ICH10R (SATAII in RAID 0) is faster than the Marvell 9128 (SATAIII in RAID 0).

    I need a technical answer.

when I do stuff on HD it does over 400mb a sec

Is this on target or is something too weak PS?

  • The presentation is like: aah I am so sleepy

  • My ICH10R Sata2 contoller beats Marvell's "rev-engineered" 9128 chipsets. why is that?

Marvel is a "junk" semiconductor conpany. Stay away from them if you can. Buyer beware!

  • @bladerunner983 Oh, hey Intel fanboy, be impartial (or at least rational) for just one time. You censure a multi billion company for your own incapacity to calculate the maximal transfer rate of Serial ATA Revision 2.0 yourself: 3000 MHz (internal cycle) * 1 Bit (per cycle) * 0,8 (8B/10B encoding) / 8 Bit per Byte = 300 MiB per second (* 0,95367 = 286,10 MB per second). Your argument will become valid when 398,76 per second is less then 286,10 MB per second.

  • Didnt know marvell was pronounced that way
