The Sentinelese have it lucky. They live innocently enough on a paradise island detached from the troubles of outside civilization. They have no real technology, no contact with the outside world and a carefree lifestyle of fishing and foraging. If I didnt have a sense of ambition and things I want to do with my life, I'd quite happily like to try and live like that.

This is indeed one of the saddest videos I ever watched. In fact, on that day Sentinelese were on the brink of a deadly catastrophe and of their imminent death. It seems that in some moments they were only one or two meters from the people on the boat. Even a trivial virosis of some of the boaters or diarhea-causing bacteria on the coconuts could have resulted in a deadly epidemic killing possibly all of the people living on the island. It is so very sad...
From what Iv'e read they were part of the first wave of first Human Beings that left Africa and hugged the coast line eastwardly. These people eventually made theyre way to India [Sentinelese and other Adamanese peoples], Southeast Asia [Mani of Thailand] the Indonesian/Phillipine Islands [Ati of the Phillipnes] and Oceania [Aborigines, Melanesians/Papuans]. The Sentinelese have a right to protect their livelihoods, a large part of which is fishing. The killing of two criminals in the act of a serious crime is not sufficient grounds for putting the lives of 50-200 people at risk by "modernizing" them.
These people aren't pre-historic they are just living in the modern world in ways different from our own. Also assuming that they have lived this way, unbroken, since the paleolithic is also problematic. Truth is we haven't studied them enough to know much about their history or relation to the broader world. The fact that they react to so violently to intruders suggests to me that they have had contact extensive contact with civilization before, and that it was not at all pleasant.

It's true that there are risks with making full contact with them, but this race could be a scientific goldmine for anthropological and psychological understanding. @SlimGoodeee Assuming they even have a concept of land ownership. Their pretty territorial apparently, having killed a bunch of fisherman that strayed into their stretch of water, but there's no evidence they've carved up this land between the various groups of Sentinels living on the island.

This is indeed one of the saddest videos I ever watched. In fact, on that day Sentinelese were on the brink of a deadly catastrophe and of their imminent death. It seems that in some moments they were only one or two meters from the people on the boat. Even a trivial virosis of some of the boaters or diarhea-causing bacteria on the coconuts could have resulted in a deadly epidemic killing possibly all of the people living on the island. It is so very sad...

From what Iv'e read they were part of the first wave of first Human Beings that left Africa and hugged the coast line eastwardly. These people eventually made theyre way to India [Sentinelese and other Adamanese peoples], Southeast Asia [Mani of Thailand] the Indonesian/Phillipine Islands [Ati of the Phillipnes] and Oceania [Aborigines, Melanesians/Papuans]. Contact will not destroy their culture! We would simply be showing them we are not hostile, and there is a huge city and world near by. They have a right to know that. If they choose to have nothing to do with it, thats fine. Maybe we could still offer someone to come and learn from them though. If they know about India, and modern culture what does it matter? They would likely keep living their normal life- perhaps with some trade between us. We don't 'contact' people like we did in the 1800's

@MsErowin We still do. The most casualties of Western colonization / exploration was due to diseases. Even an ordinary flu could kill them all (since they're quite inbred and don't have much variety in their immune systems).

Are you one of their widows or something? They were most definitely poaching look it up (won't let me post the link). The Sentinelese have a right to protect their livelihoods, a large part of which is fishing. The killing of two criminals in the act of a serious crime is not sufficient grounds for putting the lives of 50-200 people at risk by "modernizing" them.

These people aren't pre-historic they are just living in the modern world in ways different from our own. Also assuming that they have lived this way, unbroken, since the paleolithic is also problematic. Truth is we haven't studied them enough to know much about their history or relation to the broader world. The fact that they react to so violently to intruders suggests to me that they have had contact extensive contact with civilization before, and that it was not at all pleasant.

@LepiMario Well they must, they're captive on that island and there is quite a few of them. House breaking would be no easy task though. You would be going against thousands of years of social conditioning. Plus they might want to drink out of the toilet. Best to leave it to the experts to handle.

It's true that there are risks with making full contact with them, but this race could be a scientific goldmine for anthropological and psychological understanding. Studying them if they were friendly enough would advance the understanding of our own mainstream civilization, while at the same time introducing technology that would help them.

Its good to have these "friendly" contacts with them but we shouldn't disturb them all the time. Just give them what they need if they are in danger. That's it.
Its like for wild animals. They are not like pets. We can go as far as befriending them and feeding them like in the zoo but we cannot simply 'treat' them like domesticated animals or even go as far as raising them like kids. It will ruin their lives and they will die. There are many incidents like this in the past.

We need to learn about their language and customs. After learning from them if they want to be left alone its fine but they are part of humanity I think so they shouldn't be left out. I know we should let people be but these people are literally 5,000+ years behind the rest of the world and that shouldn't be.
