I hated this scene so much the first time I saw it because Jesse was lashing out and ended up destroying his relationship to the only man he knew who accepted him for who he was and accepted himself as well.
@ballrdd24 that scene is beautiful. he had said that he knew who he was, that he was the bad guy. this is where he decides not to just accept who he had been. this is a moment when he takes responsibility for who he had chosen to be. it is not as simple as "turning to the dark side." there are shades of gray. most people may think it's wrong, but he could justify to himself selling meth. he realizes here that he couldn't justify killing Gale.
Ok I love watching this scene, but the top comments are so annoying. Ok we get that some people were trolling and saying they really thought it was the dog. I'm pretty sure most conscious know this was a metaphor so stop saying "Omg I can't believe they don't notice it!" Your not smarter, your being annoying and copying the person who commented before you. Just appreciate this fine acting and that's it.
This plus the hospital bed scene where he snaps at Walt were his two best scenes in my opinion, I hope BB lands Aaron Paul with more roles because I would love to see him become a more famous actor
I love this scene. The group dynamic in the scene changes more and more and ends completely different than when it started. Every time I watch it kind of takes me by surprise.
his acting is just plain awesome. some of these mini monologues he has during the series are just so epic. rarely does an actor/actress capture your attention like he does, and he does it in the absolute framework of the character he built from day 1. his self-loathing personality is what makes him real, and that's what makes him a good person. self guilt is real and should always be recognized when it is genuine.
Jesse has grown so much as a character and if you compare him in season 1 to this scene right here you can totally see it. Aaron definitely deserved that Emmy he won.
he thing is if you do stuff and nothing happens what its all mean whats the point? So I should stop judging and accept? So no matter what I do, alright for me because Im a great guy? Its all good? No matter how many things I do. I just what? do an inventory and accept? What a lot of crap!!!
It's impossible that some people think that jesse kill an actual dog, i mean it's just impossible, you must be a complete retard to think that.... they are just trolling you.
God damn this show is good. And god damn Aaron Paul is good. He has given Jesse's inner turmoil such depth and emotional complexity.. I could watch his speeches all day long.
People need to give credit to Jere Burns in this scene also. He did such a great job letting jesse just rip him apart like that. And the way he said ....No, just that one word, was delivered so perfectly.
Since when is Gale an "innocent". He was a highly educated man who had been recruited by some meth making high level dealer that wants him to cook how much meth per week?
That's one of the main points of this entire series. Who is really "innocent" & when do you "turn to the darkside" like the guy in group put so elequently.
Is the guy thats leading the therapy session here "innocent", no.
If you prefer the biblical twist on things we're all creatures of sin.
@Ape210 It's not that Gale is innocent, Jesse never said that he was. What he said was that he never bit anyone (by which he means that Gale didn't directly hurt anyone, clearly people don't usually bite each-other). I think the point in this is to contrast his remorse against the kind of behavior emerging from the formerly straight-and-narrow high school teacher who ordered the killing in the first place, who is gradually becoming a cold and hardened criminal.
This is by far Jesse's finest moment in the series and a case for Aaron Paul as an amazing actor - PERIOD! I cannot tell you as a guy how many times watching this scene how hard it is to fight back tears. I really like the counselor and in a way I agree with his POV but in a way I don't. I'm glad HE was able to overcome and get on with his life but trying to get others to follow him especially something so unforgivable is next to impossible. Aaron Paul for president!
I love this scene so much. Its the one I will always come back to if anyone accuses this show of glorifying the actions of its characters. Its perfect. The show tries not to explain things to us in specific detail and instead we get magnificent scenes like this that perfectly put 4 seasons of horrible crimes into beautiful reflection. I was blown away by these 5 minutes of TV.
This is not nuclear science, why can't people understand he was referring to Gale. He couldnt just say i killed a man because then everyone would know and he'd get arrested.
@SuperCockism How could this scene make you like him less? It perfectly illustrates what murder does to a good soul. He's showing immense trauma over his actions, more so than anyone on this show has ever done. This scene cemented to me why Vince Gilligan considers Jesse to moral heart of the show. Jesse is a tragic character and i can't understand how you could like him less after he expresses extreme distress over killing an innocent than before when he actually killed said innocent man.
@natmacc1 You would think it would be pretty obvious what he's talking about but people these days.... hahahaha "wait when did Jesse kill a dog?" SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?!?!!?
I mean i smoke 2-3 Joints during and episode, and like 4 Beers, and even i know the " Dog " thing was a metaphor he could use for Gale. Are people really that fucking stupid?. If you are that dumb, you should probably stick to watching something a lot simpler.
Jesse is talking about a 'dog' as a reference to killing Gale, can you guys not see the connection? there was never a point in whole series were Jesse kills a dog, he is speaking metaphorically.....anyways....I totally agree, Aaron Paul deserves an emmy for his acting.
The people who don't even understand this scene, how the fuck did you get this far in the series without losing track of who jesse is? you're thick as shit... There was NO dog, at all. Gale was shot in the head by Jesse, Jesse expresses how he feels in this "confession circle". Would you have understood it if he killed a big pink fluffy bunny that bled rainbows? you cunt.
@BlackoutArchive Jesse feels regret because he killed an innocent man (Gale) but he knew he was obligated to because if he didn't, Mr. White would die, and he couldn't have that.
@1NotEvenFunny1 Not exactly, he's actually talking about the randomness of the world we live in and the injustice that surrounds us. There is no karma and such, so unlike in the movies most of the crimes, murders go unpunished in real life and rapists, murderers and criminals get away with it without getting any punishment. Nothing happens to them. Pretty nihilistic, but true...
@1NotEvenFunny1 Right, also, "If you just do stuff, and nothin' happens, what's it all mean? What's the point?" Walt's in danger still, there's another point.
There's no clean get aways in this world of there's.
@1NotEvenFunny1 I believe it's more so that he's commenting on how he killed someone in cold blood, but he didn't receive any punishment. Moreso, this group tells him that he's supposed to just "forgive" himself, but if he forgives himself just like that, what was the significance of the shooting? How does it "mean" anything if he just simply forgives and forgets? If we do horrible things and nothing happens as a consequence, does it ever mean anything?
@BlackoutArchive you have to know pain to know love. In the same way, Jesse keeps killing people without consequences. He's not being arrested and he's not being killed in retaliation, he feels bad, as you can see in the first few episodes of this season when he's got all the meth junkies partying at his house constantly. Trying to provide a constant distraction so he wouldn't have to be alone with his thoughts. Without bad there's no good.
@BlackoutArchive I think he's also talking about his dark meaningless drug world in general. People are killed for sociopathic 'business' reasons, stupid reasons, no reason at all, whether they are sellers or buyers. He knows that what he did was wrong and on some level he wants to be punished for it.
@BlackoutArchive I don't think the other responses are breaking it down simple enough. He's talking about karma, if you do bad things, but nothing bad happens to you, then that's proof that there is no justice. Which means there could be people doing heinous things everyday with no remorse, & no ill effects. He thinks then that he might as well give up and die. Because his ability to walk away from cold-blooded murder, with no consequences, is for him, confirmation that the world is shit.
@BlackoutArchive The therapy follows the notion that you should not punish yourself with regret and guilt for your drug abuse or your reckless actions while using drugs, for it will only instill a sense of hopelessness and, therefore, lead to further reckless action. Jesse questions this idea. He proposes to the group that actions without consequences or self-reflection are meaningless and remorseless and would similarly lead to further turmoil.
@BlackoutArchive He's talking about committing crimes (specifically murder) and getting away with it. If there are no consequences, what's the point (like the leader says at the beginning)? If we can do whatever we want with impunity, where does our morality come from? What is right and wrong?
@BlackoutArchive He's searching for meaning. Until this point, Jessie has always done things without facing punishment, but his self guilt is overwhelming. He almost feels that someone telling him "what you did was wrong" would provide him with a much needed catharsis. Does that make sense? He feels that he's wandering around without meaning... He's almost begging them in this monologue to condemn him - like a killer who turnes himself in.
@harrysonbreak He never killed a dog, he killed Gale (who was innocent) and he knew what he did was wrong but he had to do it save Mr. White. He obviously couldn't admit that he killed Gale so he said "a dog" so they couldn't arrest him.
@scottieman2 then why did he admit of selling meth? Is not like he was scared or anything, I think you guys missed it, he was depressed because he really killed a dog, stop over-analyzing everything.
@harrysonbreak He was making a point about accepting. They didn't like that he used them and asked if they liked accepting that fact that he used them.
@awesome220 all Gale was is awesome at karaoke. he clearly can't talk to a group about murdering a guy and how it make him felt, so he tells a story about putting a dog down while channeling how he feels about Gale.
Man. Going from this scene, and comparing him to how he looked, and acted, and even MOVED in season one... the difference is so incredible. Jesse slowly getting whittled down into this entirely different creature.
@RepyreSpore you've missed walt as well. jesses part was all about maturing and accepting who he is. walts part was to go even further down the latter. walt gave up his last sense of morality just to survive. thats pretty devastating, if you ask me...
@MrMushroom123 well yeah, Walt's deterioration is obvious. Jesse's is more subtle, and I brought it up because I watched this scene and then immediately moved to one from season one and was morbidly fascinated at the differences.
I hope at some point in the show, they have one of those flashbacks that show Walt and Jesse together in a classroom, that somehow symbollically relates to the problems in their relationship at the moment.
@cartens33 Yes! I completely agree! I had speculated about a scene like this so many times. I think it would be very appropriate and fitting to have a scene like that during the final season. It should be one of the cold openings though, that is, the scene before the title screen appears.
This is television. This is a show that I actually look forward to watching every weekend. This scene if a perfect symbol as to why this show is one of, if not THE, best show on TV today. I can only wish for more people to start watching it.
I'm a movie buff and I never really watched any tv shows until Breaking Bad. It's like watching another great movie every week. Aaron Paul is so fucking brilliant in this scene. What a great show this is. Fackinell!
The emmys felt so incomplete yesterday with no breaking bad. I guess they wanted to give other shows a chance? Why even bother having the emmys next year when Breaking Bad returns? No other show stands a chance and this scene proves it.
The emmys felt so incomplete yesterday with no breaking bad. I guess they wanted to give other shows a chance? Why even bother having the emmys next year when Breaking Bad returns? No other show stands a chance and this scene proves it.
@FactoryGaming He won't win the Emmy this coming year, though. Breaking Bad won't win any Emmys, because the cut-off date for consideration has already passed. Their season started too late.
Such a great scene!!! Kind of a shame because the sound isn't great on 480p :/ still cheers for uploading. I really want someone to upload Gus' flashback from "Hermanos" !!
i love this show but man theres HUGE double standards every white criminal show like this and the sopranos is showing the white criminal is still a good guy and hes not that bad even though he kills people but shows with a black dude doing this kin d of meth dealing shit omg hes the devil hes a fuckng nigger i hate blacks type of talk complete b.s.

@scottieman2 then why did he admit of selling meth? Is not like he was scared or anything, I think you guys missed it, he was depressed because he really killed a dog, stop over-analyzing everything.
harrysonbreak 4 months ago
@harrysonbreak He was making a point about accepting. They didn't like that he used them and asked if they liked accepting that fact that he used them.

When did he even killed a dog?!
awesome220 4 months ago
@awesome220 seriously?
hoya2002 4 months ago
@hoya2002 Yeah, when did he kill a dog?
awesome220 4 months ago
@awesome220 it's a metaphor. he's talking about Gale.
hoya2002 4 months ago
@hoya2002 Gale was a bit queer, but I wouldn't call him no dog.
awesome220 4 months ago
@awesome220 all Gale was is awesome at karaoke. he clearly can't talk to a group about murdering a guy and how it make him felt, so he tells a story about putting a dog down while channeling how he feels about Gale.
hoya2002 4 months ago
@hoya2002 I don't know. I think he killed a dog, but Vince GIlligan decided not to showing it.
awesome220 4 months ago
@awesome220 you're right, that sounds more plausible. /sarcasm
hoya2002 4 months ago
@hoya2002 yeah, jesse probably killed lots of animals what when he was a kid and all
awesome220 4 months ago
@awesome220 he was referring to gale, silly.

If Aaron Paul doesn't get more parts after Breaking Bad there is a serious flaw in Hollywood's casting process
pianist150 4 months ago
Man. Going from this scene, and comparing him to how he looked, and acted, and even MOVED in season one... the difference is so incredible. Jesse slowly getting whittled down into this entirely different creature.
RepyreSpore 4 months ago
@RepyreSpore you've missed walt as well. jesses part was all about maturing and accepting who he is. walts part was to go even further down the latter. walt gave up his last sense of morality just to survive. thats pretty devastating, if you ask me...
MrMushroom123 4 months ago
@MrMushroom123 well yeah, Walt's deterioration is obvious. Jesse's is more subtle, and I brought it up because I watched this scene and then immediately moved to one from season one and was morbidly fascinated at the differences.

hes such Brillaint actor my god!!!!!!!
snapxcracklexpopable 4 months ago
This scene really moved me.
ButThatBelt 4 months ago
I hope at some point in the show, they have one of those flashbacks that show Walt and Jesse together in a classroom, that somehow symbollically relates to the problems in their relationship at the moment.
cartens33 4 months ago 31
@cartens33 I think that would actually be a really great idea.
1NotEvenFunny1 4 months ago 9
@1NotEvenFunny1 Maybe we should petition for a Walt/Jesse Classroom scene
cartens33 4 months ago
@cartens33
That'll be the series finale (or just before), whenever it is Jesse finally learns about Jane... and Brock.
chowfun18 4 months ago
@chowfun18 We can hope
cartens33 4 months ago
@cartens33 Yes! I completely agree! I had speculated about a scene like this so many times. I think it would be very appropriate and fitting to have a scene like that during the final season. It should be one of the cold openings though, that is, the scene before the title screen appears.
krankerrrr 4 months ago
@krankerrrr So let's petition for it!
cartens33 4 months ago
@cartens33 That's not complex enough for Vince Gilligan and his crew.
