  • Shame on you humping a mule =O(

  • never saw this before! that's a hoot! heard of it but first time to see it. these guy are pets too you can see the closeness

  • love the coon jumping events. Mules/Donks can out jump most horses. LOVE Mabels owner, cause clearly he LOVES his Muley!

  • thats so amazing!! :D

  • I have officially decided that I no longer want a show jumper, I rather have a mule.

  • very awesome and athletic mules! The dude is lucky he didn't get kicked at 2:14ish!!

  • That is soooooo cool!

  • Snowball was gorgeous :)

  • Nothing like a coon jumping competition! It is said that the only equine that can jump from a stand still is a mule. You haven't seen my BLM mustang coon jump. Comes in handy in the hunt field. ;D

  • i feel like they should wear polo's or SMB to protect their legs :/

  • maby they could jump better if they could have a good run-up???

  • @bethluvshorses unlike horses, Mules are famous for being able to jump high objects from a standstill. Deer can do this aswell. This is why people show their prized mules in jumping, but the mule must be still, run ups would be for horses and ponies.

  • @bethluvshorses

These guys don't need run-up's which is why it is like it is. The can jump standing still with ease, unlike horses.

  • That little guy Bucky just eats the jumps up!

  • Lol my instructor might be getting a mule for the summer, I want to try some little jumps like this with her if she does

  • MULES JUMP FROM A STAND STILL because they have different bone structures than horses. This isn't cruel, because it does no harm to the mules. They are physically capable of doing this! It was used during the wild west days and is still appreciated, so it is a competition now.

  • Nice jumps! Here's some from Missouri State Fair! -

  • look at them go! never knew they could jump. Shame they couldnt set it up like the hanovarian/warmblood free jumping. would be quite interesting to see how they go with a bit of a run up!

  • Wow they can jump but it looks very mean to the animals

  • @EvEnTeR12345 it's not, because of the way a mule's bones are structured, they are able to jump from standstill with no discomfort:)

  • wow, thats really cute ^^ But are you sure it doesnt harm their back/legs ??? They look like they need more of a running start, but what do I know....

  • The owners of these mules would never do anything to harm them. They are valuable and talented animals, and most are family and pets. I'd say some are loved more than most family members.

As to the running start, they might be able to jump higher, but the space is the same for all competitors, and hence fair.

    Thanks, Bill

  • @Lauratherider The point of mule jumping is to show off a mule's ability to jump from a stand still. Their bone structure is different than that of a horse, so they are able to jump from a stand still. This was especially useful during the wild west days, and is so appreciated that it is still shown off to this day. :)

  • @Lauratherider I know this is old, but mules naturally jump like that, where as a horse needs several steps to get the speed up, a mule will simply move up and leap over. thats how someone would use a mule to hunt would get over fences.

  • that is so not cruel, I agree with RockyBlue 72, if they didn't want to they so wouldn't and mules are very intelligent animal and actually you see how the mule i pulling before the jump and how she looks proud of her self after the jump, all ears :)

  • man, they're far more agile than my horse ;)

  • Good grief, there's always one that finds it "cruel". If these mules didn't want to jump, believe me they wouldn't!! Incredibly talented animals! Wonder if I should get my hands on one and clean up in the jumper ring at the fall fair next year! LOL Thanks for sharing!!

  • yes they are amazing jumpers. people back in altenburg and the surrounding area still use them to hunt raccoons. they can clear a fence without having to get a running start

  • Mules can jump over a fence from a standing position. Horses can't do that. ^-^

  • @Neopethorselover horses can, the riders cant

  • are mules known for there abilities ti jump?? just wondering.

  • wow, my riding instructor told me she once had a mule that could jump out of it's stall from a stand still, and she told me to look up mule jumping, lol. And wow, they can jump!
