thanks to asian bar girls, and my wife is from phil, so we talk english all the time att home even now when she have learn to talk swedish, just old habit
Just out of curiosity Hobbexp, do you have a Mora or two that you have been using for a very long time? I know some people that have had these knives for many many years and they seem pretty durable.
@loku1125 Yeah I got one around the time I left that last comment. It's been serving me quite well for the time that I've had it. But alas, a knife is just a knife. I think sometimes we bushcrafters get too caught up on things like steel types and all that. I've been experimenting with obsidian flakes as tools lately and that's sure made me appreciate having even what some people would call a dull knife.
Can you elaborate on the diadonal weave or 'seam' you use to connect the bark strips? I am about to have a good suply of a paper birch as the power company is cutting one down in my backyard & I want to use as much of it as possible for containers! Thanx!
For making the ends hold together, I think he cuts a 'W' in one end, and an 'M' in the other. On the 'points' of each end, back-cut a small serration, so that they lock into one another.
It's hard to explain in words, but simple when seen. Look at how the bottoms of some cardboard boxes are held together, by folding a tab into a slot, and you'll get the idea.
Great bit of craft, might have to try to put one together to house my trang stove.
great vid again man il be trying this today, sorry but i totally missd how you cut it to make the ends of the bark hold eachother and cant see an answer in comments section, anyone wanna tell me please? =)
great little box. but how in the heck do you put the bark together? im stumped, as is everyone else by the looks of the comments. please show us how, thanks
awsome video, did you get the bark of of a dead tree or a tree that was alive, and how dod you put the to ends together? thanks!!!! oh you should make a video on feather sticks
Seanoooog you don't know much about knives do you? That's a Mora knife, considered by many to be the best knife in the world. When you compare the low price and the quality it truly is outstanding.
Here in Sweden you can buy it at gas stations for 3-15$ depending on the model. All models are great though (Yes, I've used most of them)
I loved seeing you work with birchbark. I weave my baskets with it and also make book covers. I liked your little container. It was nice to see you with your fire while you were teaching us. That was nice and cozy. I'll go see if you've made your video on joining the ends. Thanks!

I love these videos, but one thing that is potentially disappointing is that we see the nkife you use habitually is one with a red handle suspiciously like a store-bought one.
Moras are fabulous blades. I love Scandi grind knives and while they may be inexpensive they certainly hold their own with the $300+ customs I have. Buy one you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Oh & if you dropped your knife in a pile of leaves would you rather it be bright red or a blackened "Mall Ninja" knife?
That red handled knife is a Frost Mora. Its one of the best knives in its price range (under $15us)
If you want to go and get a Rambo knife. Then go ahead. You should find someone in your area who has them in stock and buy one Even get one by mail-order. At that low price im sure you wont be dissapointed. But if you are. Then you have not wasted much money. The Scout version of this model was my first knife as a child. It never let me down. My advice...Get one to try.
Nice vid! I've seen a design like this in Ray Mears book, you do a very good job. The birch is an excellent tree with so many uses for the woodsman... 5/5 :-) (p.s my birch bark cup needs some improvement ha ha!)
is it true that somewhere over your way, prolly not sweden im thinkin of...anyways is it true that there its not ilegal to escape from prison, if u get caught they just bring u back??(lol if its not there id like to know where over sea it is...)
can you own a rifle in Sweden? can you hunt in Sweden? I ask this because a foreign exchange student from Germany said that in Germany you could own a rifle but only if you went through really rigorous tests. He said that very few actually owned a gun and even fewer hunted. thanks
we need to take a licence for hunting and own a gun, but it is not hard to take, we dont like to have lots off crazy people runing a round with weapon here, and we have laws about how and when we can hunt,
oh, okay thats just like america. Sweet. What kind of game do you have in Sweden? I am going there for a family reunion after school and I would like to at least check that out.

dude its not like america... in the usa u can buy a gun soooo easily.. we can thank all the crime here for that.. drive bys wouldnt happen if the gun licenses would be harder cause all the stupid gangsters wouldnt know how to pass it, hence get a gun legally
Wait are you lecturing me on this? I was just asking about gun rights in Sweden. And I don't think that the reason for so much crime in the US is because of gun rights that we have. Gangsters and criminals have other means for getting guns, drugs, whatever they want. They don't have to get one legally, in fact that would be dumb because then the gun could just be traced back from a crime to the original buyer. Plus it goes against the constitution, which I really disagree with doing.
no it not because we need more restrictions on licenses. you think someone who is going to kill a person is going to stop and think hmm maybe i should get a license for this gun first? guns are easy to come by if you know how. you dont even need to buy one. if there weren't guns there would be knives or bombs. people will find a way to kill each other.

their only found in the northern states and canada, they actually thrive in colder climates, impossible to find in the southern and mid west states.

The Mora knife is an excellent blade made from some of the best Swedish cutlery steel.
Mine has a plain wooden handle and it is razor sharp.
