  • Is it me or does this guy have the coolest accent on youtube?

  • @practicalwhacktical

thanks, i learn the englis i know in bars in asia

  • @hobbexp You speak it very well.

  • @practicalwhackti

thanks to asian bar girls, and my wife is from phil, so we talk english all the time att home even now when she have learn to talk swedish, just old habit

  • your such an awsome craftsman!

you should shart a bushcraft school fredde!

  • u rock

  • Just out of curiosity Hobbexp, do you have a Mora or two that you have been using for a very long time? I know some people that have had these knives for many many years and they seem pretty durable.

  • @MrVoiceofreason123 he was using a mora, also if you are looking to get one they are great knives super sharp and cheap as dirt

  • @loku1125 Yeah I got one around the time I left that last comment. It's been serving me quite well for the time that I've had it. But alas, a knife is just a knife. I think sometimes we bushcrafters get too caught up on things like steel types and all that. I've been experimenting with obsidian flakes as tools lately and that's sure made me appreciate having even what some people would call a dull knife.

  • Neat, but I couldn't see how you fasten the sides.

  • Gillar dina vids +1! Skadar man träden på något sätt om man tar bort barken?

  • Can you elaborate on the diadonal weave or 'seam' you use to connect the bark strips? I am about to have a good suply of a paper birch as the power company is cutting one down in my backyard & I want to use as much of it as possible for containers! Thanx!

  • For making the ends hold together, I think he cuts a 'W' in one end, and an 'M' in the other. On the 'points' of each end, back-cut a small serration, so that they lock into one another.

It's hard to explain in words, but simple when seen. Look at how the bottoms of some cardboard boxes are held together, by folding a tab into a slot, and you'll get the idea.

Great bit of craft, might have to try to put one together to house my trang stove.

  • Neat,, but the video does not show the step of how to fasten the sides. Maybe cut slots, and use a bit of pine pitch? not sure.

  • wait, how did you attatch the two ends of the bark, to make the tube?

  • great vid again man il be trying this today, sorry but i totally missd how you cut it to make the ends of the bark hold eachother and cant see an answer in comments section, anyone wanna tell me please? =)

  • I don't know how hobb does it but I bet you can use a pine pitch, or resign like a glue. :o)

  • i love your work its so good

  • thanks, i do my best,

  • Jag antar att du använder dig av "tampmetoden" Fredde?

Kör du med dubbla lager näver för stabilitet eller räcker det med ett lager på så små askar?

Snyggt gjort är det i alla fall!!

    /Nic.

  • Can you only take bark off a dead tree? Or did you get that off a live one?

  • it depend on the barks quality,

    i think that make sense,

  • great little box. but how in the heck do you put the bark together? im stumped, as is everyone else by the looks of the comments. please show us how, thanks

  • Comment removed

  • 5/5 as usual... exelent job

  • Freddie you have us all wondering about joining the oval box... can you show us how you fix it together please

  • @igiefive

My bet would be glue although pine sap would work well enough.

  • how did you make the box stick together? i understand that the bottom is just a tight fitting oval, but the sides are a mystery to me.

  • please fredde if you time show us how you interlock the ends. 5 stars

  • i have asked this guestion before but can u make short video how u put those ends of that box together

  • Beautiful box but please could you tell us what shape you cut to interlock the ends together?

  • so a deadtree? and how did you put the ends together

  • awsome video, did you get the bark of of a dead tree or a tree that was alive, and how dod you put the to ends together? thanks!!!! oh you should make a video on feather sticks

  • ops thinking on the wrong video,

i get the bark form a tree they have cut down,

  • do birch trees grow in florida

  • all trees in florida is birch trees, :0)

  • what about nississippi

  • cool

  • How you put the ends of the bark together?

  • I can't recall the last time I saw a birch tree in America. I may have to go searching for them as a project lol.

  • their only found in the northern states and canada, they actually thrive in colder climates, impossible to find in the southern and mid west states.

  • The Mora knife is an excellent blade made from some of the best Swedish cutlery steel.

Mine has a plain wooden handle and it is razor sharp.

    Bill

  • Seanoooog you don't know much about knives do you? That's a Mora knife, considered by many to be the best knife in the world. When you compare the low price and the quality it truly is outstanding.

Here in Sweden you can buy it at gas stations for 3-15$ depending on the model. All models are great though (Yes, I've used most of them)

  • this was great. However how did you get the body of the box to lock together, and stay together?

  • how do you put the end of the bark together. could you make a fast video about it? you are great!!!

  • I loved seeing you work with birchbark. I weave my baskets with it and also make book covers. I liked your little container. It was nice to see you with your fire while you were teaching us. That was nice and cozy. I'll go see if you've made your video on joining the ends. Thanks!

  • its winter here so now birchbark yet,

  • yeah, it's winter here in Canada, too!

  • i dont care if your are disappointed,

i buy my knifes on the gas station,

  • LOL

  • Soooooo... you make all your knives Seanoooog?

Moras are fabulous blades. I love Scandi grind knives and while they may be inexpensive they certainly hold their own with the $300+ customs I have. Buy one you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh & if you dropped your knife in a pile of leaves would you rather it be bright red or a blackened "Mall Ninja" knife?

  • That red handled knife is a Frost Mora. Its one of the best knives in its price range (under $15us)

If you want to go and get a Rambo knife. Then go ahead. You should find someone in your area who has them in stock and buy one Even get one by mail-order. At that low price im sure you wont be dissapointed. But if you are. Then you have not wasted much money. The Scout version of this model was my first knife as a child. It never let me down. My advice...Get one to try.

  • Nice vid! I've seen a design like this in Ray Mears book, you do a very good job. The birch is an excellent tree with so many uses for the woodsman... 5/5 :-) (p.s my birch bark cup needs some improvement ha ha!)

  • that knife is a frost mora 720 isent it?

  • sorry to ask such a mundane question, but what boots are you wearing?

I don't recognize that knife. The Mora vikings that I can get here in the USA, have a clip point rather than the straight spine that yours have?

your videos are very useful! I appreciate your time!

Have you thought about doing a sharpening video?

    be safe...

    Ted

  • hehehe, that one is a old model,

with hollow handle. and my boots is a pair blue sailing boots in rubber :0)

  • nice

  • i am in awe of your craft, a gifted man, i have learned alot from you, thankyou.

  • hehehe.. nice to hear, thanks :0)

  • How do you attach the ends when you overlap them ???

  • You truly are a master craftsman, thanks for showing us how to build the birch bark box.

  • thanks, :0)

  • Can you show us how the joining of the two ends of the birch bark is made?

It is hard to see what cuts you are making on the video.

  • next time i do a box then i gonna show it up better,

  • Thank you :) It looks like an interesting join, useful too!

  • yeah your a good man m8. just wondered, what accent u got?

  • how did u glue the box together? did u use resin from tree sap or what?

  • no resin from tree sap or glue, only old-fashioned technique, hold the box together.

  • the birch just kinda naturally glues to itself? interesting.

  • no, its not glueing its self, i say old-fashioned technique,

  • is it true that somewhere over your way, prolly not sweden im thinkin of...anyways is it true that there its not ilegal to escape from prison, if u get caught they just bring u back??(lol if its not there id like to know where over sea it is...)

  • Hey bud grt vid.

    i will try one

you are lucky you camp more than me.

  • thanks, im out so much i can.

  • Very nice little boxes!

    Great demo video!

    5 STARS

  • thanks

  • its duane!

  • can you own a rifle in Sweden? can you hunt in Sweden? I ask this because a foreign exchange student from Germany said that in Germany you could own a rifle but only if you went through really rigorous tests. He said that very few actually owned a gun and even fewer hunted. thanks

  • we need to take a licence for hunting and own a gun, but it is not hard to take, we dont like to have lots off crazy people runing a round with weapon here, and we have laws about how and when we can hunt,

  • oh, okay thats just like america. Sweet. What kind of game do you have in Sweden? I am going there for a family reunion after school and I would like to at least check that out.

  • Wait are you lecturing me on this? I was just asking about gun rights in Sweden. And I don't think that the reason for so much crime in the US is because of gun rights that we have. Gangsters and criminals have other means for getting guns, drugs, whatever they want. They don't have to get one legally, in fact that would be dumb because then the gun could just be traced back from a crime to the original buyer. Plus it goes against the constitution, which I really disagree with doing.

  • you have no idea what youre talking about

  • what you mean?

  • I was replying to the guy that said guns are the cause of crime.

  • hehehe, thanks then i know,

  • no it not because we need more restrictions on licenses. you think someone who is going to kill a person is going to stop and think hmm maybe i should get a license for this gun first? guns are easy to come by if you know how. you dont even need to buy one. if there weren't guns there would be knives or bombs. people will find a way to kill each other.

  • i trid it and it worked good. i was short on wood for the bottom so i made a bottom with some thick birch bark and glued in the holes with pitch glue

  • cool,,, pitch glu is good to lots of things,,

  • hi beautiful box.

I see yo keep using your red plastic hanle Mora knifeee, which brandname and model is thanks.

  • thanks,, its a old modell of Mora Frost Viking, its the cheapest knife in Sweden,, and thay last forever,

  • superb....5*****

  • thanks ;0)

  • Can you show how you connected the edges? Great vid!

  • thanks,, that part of the video wher i connected the edges together. was to blurred, to show up,

  • Amazing and Beautiful!

I too would like to see the method of joining the bark into a circle.

  • thanks,, that part of the video wher i connected the edges together. was to blurred, to show up,

  • it looked great to me when i used high quality option!

  • i am gonna have to try that!

  • nice tell me how its work out for you,:0)

  • your videos are much much clearer since enabling the high quality option

  • thanks,, that part how connected the edges together. was to blurred, to have in the video,

  • i'd like to see more in depth how you connected the edges together. i would imagine pine tree pinch could be useful to connect them aswell??

  • excellent video, you made very good boxes !

  • thanks,, wizzla,

  • mad sweden nice one, keep them coming.

  • thanks,,

  • thanks for taking the time in making the videos, very useful, enjoy watching them,
