  • Hehe, I couldn't resist naming my test file Hal_9000 and typing "I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave." within the text editor.

  • I've got a few questions:

    - What's exactly the root-password, and where am I supposed to find it? Can I do this since I'm not admin?

    - If I type any command with sudo, it shows : "[username] is not in th sudoers file. This incident will be reported". What does it mean?

    Thanks for helping me...

  • @NuntiusMusicae I am also having this problem

  • @NuntiusMusicae If you are not an admin, the sudo command will and should not work. Also, if you do not know the current root password, you can only change it if you are already an admin. There is no way to actually find the root password without the aid of a password cracker, which is still never a 100% guarantee.

  • i am not the admin but ik the password for it. When i log onto root in terminal (using the login command) i use the same password as the admin, and it works. although when i use the sudo command it is not the same as the one i would use to log onto root? is it not suppose to be the same?

  • @jsne10 The sudo command takes the password to the current user logged in (not necessarily root).

  • @macheads101 so i can run a command as root with sudo with my user password?

  • @macheads101 as well i dont have a password for my account so what would i do in that case,

    thank for the help

  • @jsne10 If your account does not have a password, you cannot use sudo.

  • I know I'm an admin but after typing su (enter)

    Type my password

    it says

    su: Sorry

    Why?

  • @ABkabbani I guess the question should be how do I change root passwd without knowing my old one?

    Thanks in advance

  • @ABkabbani You can change your root password by typing "sudo passwd" into terminal. When it prompts you for a password, enter the password of the user into which you are currently logged in. Then it will ask you for a new password, and to confirm the new password. There, you enter the new root password.

  • @macheads101 Thanks man

  • how do u change terminal to black and green?

  • how do u log in into terminal.. when i go on it it's all blank D:

  • Does anyone know how to tell me the possibility to rob a bank with an computer

  • how do u find ur root password? and when i put in the command "sudo (my name)" it says (my name) is not in the sudoers folder or something and this incident will be reported what do i do?

  • @zatagag The computer does not directly store the root password. It instead stores an encrypted hash of that password, making it "unfindable." The reason it says you are not in the sudoers file is because you are not an admin on your computer. If you are not an admin, than there must be a different account that is.

  • @macheads101 thanks i made myself an admin though through single user mode u help alot great vids.

  • @zatagag macs su root password I believe is mostly alpine

  • This is great vid thankxxx

  • This is geat vid thankxxx

  • it keeps saying luke is not in the sudoers file. ?

  • @QuackQuackBang thats because you are not an admin

  • What does it mean by when someone say RUN this in a terminal?? Someone told me to run the following: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache to flush my cache. What does that mean and how do i do it?

  • @2233Brenda When you enter a terminal command you are executing a file (with the command name) in your designated path. If you want to "run" a command, just paste it into terminal and hit enter.

  • Watch our video called "how to enable 'root' in leopard".

  • wow thanks man....you are really smart...keep it up.

  • I will thanks

  • login "username" works better than su "username" it makes it so you can create foldrs on other accounts and stuff hehe.

  • So allows you to do that to. It's just that with su first you need to type

    cd ~

Before creating folders. Because it's still cd'd to your home folder even once you've su'd.

  • awesome work dude! keep it up

  • Thanks man!

  • I lost my password to the admin or someone changed it. Thats the only account I have on my system, I have a mac os x Lepard as you do, is there any way i could recover it?

  • No, but you can change it watch our video called how to enable root in leopard.

  • Do you mind me asking how old you are? Also, how often do you work in the Terminal as apposed to the GUI (and what is the main reason you learned the Terminal) I have more questions if you do not mind too.

  • I am twelve years old. I actually use terminal because I had a linux system that had no GUI so I had to use it as a terminal. And that is why I know how to use terminal. I made this video to make other people not type worthless and meaningless commands in terminal (sorry if that sounds harsh).
