I didn't mean to be critical. One of my customers who was thinking about salt saw this video and was nervous about what seemed to be negativity towards salt systems. I personally install a sacrificial zinc anode with the systems I install. I have been installing these for a number of years and my customers have had great results. Our pools are open about 4 months out of the year. The cells I use are lasting between 5-7 seasons. They defintely lose some punch after year 5
LOL, Wow, I was surprised at how much traffic this video has seen. I originally posted this video for my buyers so that they would have a reference about there pool. Often during inspections you listen, but you don't h everything. I apologize for the quality as I was just filming it with video mode on my Olympus waterproof camera. Thank you for your comments.
I'm guessing that a majority of pool service companies that don't want you to use salt probably sell tons of chlorine. These companies will not make as much money if they sell salt systems. This tech is right about cleaning your cell, that is very important. Draining the pool every 2 years sounds ridiculous also. If you pay attention to your water chemistry weekly, you should have very few problems. The chlorine produced does have a high ph. You will need to adjust by adding acid frequently
I did read that this video is approx. 5 years old. It definitely sounds like this service tech was misinformed about salt water chlorine generation. To compare salt levels in a pool and levels in the ocean is ridiculous. Most salt systems will recommend the salt levels be between 3000-3500ppm. Most ocean levels are above 36000-38000ppm. As you can see, not even close. You can taste the salt water in the ocean, however you cannot taste it in your pool if it has the proper levels.
@mypoolguypa It was originally filmed in Auguat 2010. You are correct the difference between the ocean and a salt sytem are vast. Generally he refers to the salt levels as similar to that of your tears. I might have made him nervous by filming him. :-) This was originally just useful info for my clients, but got more attention then I expected. ;)

@mypoolguypa In Yuma our water is very hard & evaporates quickly due to high temps I'm sure that this varies depending on climate.
