It's so easy to criticise/laugh at Oedipus for 'not putting 2+2 together', but the fact is we all do this sometimes. Psychologically we are conditioned not to believe the worst until the truth is rammed unavoidably into our faces.
People and details keep telling oedipus that he killed Laios his father and he is married to his mother but he just refuses to gather that information, he keeps avoiding it even though he wants to find out the truth
