This is absolutely amazing song from such great album. In my 35, had to be and it´s in my car from last summer playing all the time, so emotional and relaxing while driving wherever you are, wherever you go, it´s best therapy ever known for your body and soul
A-ha is eternal flame and better friend for those who appreciate the best real good music ever made !
Thanks a-ha for being there through all these years.
Magic, love it. In a way reminds me of a slow version of Major Tom.
A-ha you may have retired but like a painter leaves behind his art, you have done the same and left all your fans with visual art and musical art in your songs and most advanced videos.
We are fortunate to have lived in a time filled with the sweet sounds of your music.
@larsexwow Pal got all the lyrics from terms used by NASA in their space program, around the time of the moon landings. He thought it would be fun to try to construct a song built around them :)
@chandler76 yes, does anyone know if they played this live in concert? maybe they did and didn't have it professionally shot for a reason, but on their pro shot dvds and i cant even find it on bootleg dvds, they didnt play it live, of course it should have been the last song of the concert leaving many in tears, but maybe they didn't want to 'commercialize' it, and keep it sacred or something, by just having it on the album,..i would love to make a fan made video of this song, i love you aha, ty
OAAA fully the horny gangsta sayings you have on it so you little cocksucker whore her stupid kids who can already hear a-ha ey alone was responsible for making the music sound full of gay ..... it is so ugly creatures KEEP THE FRESSE
Quite easily the most beautiful masterpiece I've heard for such a long time.. People up my alley should give "The stranger's town", from Paul and Magne's band Bridges (1980, Paul singing, much alike "The Doors"), a try. It's on my account.
A-ha and Duran Duran have their own unique styles. Both have produced marvelous music and both have left an indelible mark on the world music horizons.
You dont know what you are talking about, Duran Duran is one of the best bands ever. They have geat songs like "Save a prayer" "A view to a kill" , "Wild boys" and "Ordinary World". btw a-ha is also a great band, the best nregian band ever.
Duran Duran ripped off David Sylvian and Japan, they turned what they did into more commercial pop music.I like them and all early on but later after Andy and Roger left they lost me.
I think at the last minute on their last final concert Morten Harket will announce that A-ha stays together for another 10 years and they only wanted to make a joke.
I'm sure it would be the real plaesure and happieness for all the desperated fans.
i agree, in a way they sort of mirror the actions of the beatles, when they broke up; they've announced the news on a light note, but they're actually making a very wise descision. if they were to continue on, they would inevitably be reduced to just doing set list repeats. this way they've kept their dignity intact, and people will remember as the legendary band they were, not some lame group from years ago that faded into the background. love you a-ha, and wish you the best for the future!!
love it so much! i have been listening to a-ha ever since i heard 'the sun always shines on tv' when i was six, and they have never failed to amaze me. stunning song, reminiscent of the demo for 'the blue sky' (not the over-processed album version). has a strong christmassy feeling to it, in my opinion. beautiful, and a song that should have been released as the headline single. how any normal a-ha fan can't appreciate this stunning song is beyond me. waaktaar-savoy at his very best. go a-ha!
I identify myself quite a lot with this song. Im 23 and just beggining to work by myself and I feel like I've started the simulator of "real time". The usage of the concept "simulator" seems to me like an analogy for what "real world" is when you leave your parents protection, its like a new world, a new reality simulator for you. When Martin sings "you're in control now, now you're on your own" I really feel my mind flying, but at the same time, my feet on the ground of this "real world".
Another "lost track" from the Seargent Pepper album....
A-ha is really perfect how to make a Beatles tribute song in their own style.
This is not imitation, just an interesting experiment they made even on Analogue on songs like Over the Treetops, White Dwarf and Halfway Through the Tour.
I think STS was a fantastic result of this approach.
I wasn't that keen on it when I first heard it, but the second listening I totally got the song..it's unusual I grant you, but the melody is gorgeous when you give it more listenings. At times there is an almost 50s melody going on.
this for me is pal waaktaar at his very best.this track does need a few extra listens but when it grips you,you realise its one of the best songs on this absolutely superb album.the weakest track by far is real meaning but the rest of the album is truely stunning.THANKS GUYS ITS SO GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK
It has always been interesting to read how the songs from A-ha get such different responses.
As far as I can tell most A-ha fans don't like this song: in my opinion it is such a FREAKING MASTERPIECE! Is it too difficult to understand for the average A-ha fan?
Hi... "start the simulator " is abt Morten loves for sailing. He has a boat. The beauty of sailing and the breath taking of a boat. instead of choosing a yatch...he chose a sailing boat.... Love Morten , Pal and Mag... their music lives long bec their loves for Arts. and Music is like "alive" 3D arts on a canvas for their fans ....
@Fakkeltog it's brilliant! My fave song on FOTM. Pal got all the lyrics from NASA terms used in the space program, but I think Morten's singing is at it's best on here.
@Fakkeltog amen and amen! brother! at least 58 people here like it, yes probably the minority, yes, it is a BEAUTIFUL SONG, it moves me so much, i cry tears as i sing with it just about every time, it makes me think, im finally on my way home, to heaven, to be forever with Jesus, out of this stinking world, like angels are co pilots and we're on our way, truly, it is AHA'S FINAL EXCLAMATION POINT of everything they are, wrapped up in one song, i cant believe its not on dvd in concert, or a video
I have to say...this is actually my favorite track. I dig the whole album, but this song is, IMO, quite astonishing. Ambient, moving, perfect. It definitely takes a few listens, but for a-ha, the deeper tracks are often the best. Give it another whirl, with headphones, and you might agree.
I am as fervent an A-ha fan as there will ever be,but i do think that this song is the weakest on the album. I give them a lot of credit for trying something different,so it's not everybodies cup of tea,but it is a valiant try at something that 95% of bands wouldn't even attempt a try at Another point i must make is that if one was to try listening to any other band's album there will be much worse songs on it than this!.
I think we can't speak about bad songs concerning this album, because it's brilliant. There is quality everywhere, the majority of today's bands will never approach this level.
They can experiment if they want to, even their weakest song receives at least 4 from 5 stars, but on FOTM each song deserves 5 stars and I'm not a huge fan to say that.
I have listen to all their new tracks now and I'm gonna buy the album. Their new sound is great. So good that they are back to their roots with pop/synth/dance songs.
still sound just as good as they did in the 80's

I think both are great bands.

A-ha is definately much better.
What a question!
I don't like Duran Duran, I think even Alphaville, Tears for Fears and early Depeche Mode were much better bands musically.
