  • I had the same problem with my 92 Ge Metro convertible. The solution was to replace the top, which I did, and no more problems. As a temporary solution, I had to cut the strap holding the frame above the window, because my old top was so badly shrunk. Yours does not look that bad, I would push forward on the front frame while putting the top on, and it will likely catch. Leave it shut for some days, and it should stretch a little bit.

  • stretch the top and it will close fine, its shrunk from the old latches, all u need to do is close it and set weights like blocks on the roof with top down overnight. next morning take off the 50 lbs and it should close with ease, if its still tight, increase the weight and leave stretch another night.

  • I have the same problem, unless it's hot out the top is so tight it's almost impossible to close. I have a Geo Prizm I drive if it's raining and only close the top on the Metro if I have to. In cold weather I struggle to close it, hanging my weight from the bows while trying to close the latch lever. I love my Metro but this is one of it's issues.

  • hallabac.com to send one hundred dolars instead of replacing top the handle can be fixed after the top is easily treated, with JB weld or Junk yard or search the Internet.

  • Hala luya I will sell you the solution I own a geo metro convertable and had the same problem. I learned from a person who's owned convertables before, you have to close the top everyday if you leave it down for long durations you get this problem, the top shrinks.....so send me one hundred dollars thats cheap! It will be fixed love me:) all you do is get top cleaner and lexus leather treatment and sturate it rub it in good do it in the sun if possable even if cold/warm garage.See hallbac.com .

  • if its cold out or no sun, I'll start the car up with the heater on and top close as much as it will close. let it run for 10-15 mins until in heats up inside then it should close.

there is the only adjustment on the frame, two Allen head screws on the frame behind the seats

  • park in the sun and let the top stretch out, also losen the adjustable strap toward the back window.....and as for the locking handle problem, I don't know what to tell you
