lol alcohol burns cooler dude, good luck tho....next time go get a can of redi whip and put a hose on it and shove the hose in the intake of the carb and crank the mower to full throttle and then hold redi whip right side up and squeeze valve on whip cream can....this is nitrous....engine will go boom, did it with a go cart, lasted bout 4 secs b4 detonation and slow roll to a stop.....btw block had a big hole that the rod went through
@3ddonovan that reminds me of when they used to put crude oil in the crankcases of cars (not that i'm that old) I'd rather use veg oil than crude. I would guess in an emergency you could put vegetable oil in your car for a short time. Vegetable oil clings better than a lot of motor oils, as for thermal breakdown not so great, just change it more often and I don't see a problem with it. In fact, veg oil processes better for bio fuel after it has been heated many times better then SVO. (=
Those older Tecumseh motors can take a beating and keep on running. I have an older Sears model (Tecumseh 6.25hp) that I run commercially and after four years I put on an hour meter. It's logged 420hrs in the last five years, plus those three years prior. I ran synthetic oil (no veg, sorry!) since new and replaced the head gasket twice ($5 ea) and the coil once ($45). Original valves, and yes, even the muffler is still original! Cheers.
@RT360ci nice man i have a 3.5hp Tecumseh on my go cart it dose 4omph topped out the Tecumseh is a 1970s its extremely cold blooded but once it starts it purrs untill it runs out of fuel its a bit smokey though but hey its 42 years old lol
Hiby3434, the gas tank is the one with the bigger lid than the one he's poring the vegetable oil with. GO show off your broken mower that is still running at least... :/
@ glumpy10. He put the vegtable oui, in the oil reservoir, not the gas tank. So technically it should run fine. Not as good as oil, but it would still lubricate.
When someone says they are running an engine "on" something, I took it to be used as a fuel.
If it is in the crank case, why would you put gas in with the veg? It would thin it for a bit till it got hot but the gas would soon evaporate and the oil level would drop and go back to it's original viscosity.
@glumpy10 Geez man. We already figured out he isnt using veg oil as a combustible. He put the oil in the crankcase without any gas mixed in. So whats all this BS about how the oil gets hot and the gas evaporates? If there was gas with the oil, it would burn, not evaporate. And when oil gets hot, it expands, so that whole theory makes no sense. As i mentioned before, veg oil isnt the best, because it isnt as thick as 5w30 or 10w 30, but it would still work. it will wear out sooner, thats all.
I have been running cars and Small diesels on Veg oil for over 5 years now and there is no way that spark ignition engine is running on veg or more than 5% in the petrol. For one thing, it wouldn't go through the carb because its too thick to go through the jet at anywhere near the right mixture. If it was running veg, it would be blowing smoke clouds because a gas engine is too low in compression to burn oil properly.
Your just misleading people here, IT WILL NOT WORK.
try to run it on nitro rc car fuel! That stuff runs hot, and its like diesel too. you will not be able to turn off your engine haha, cause once it gets going it doesn't need spark, explaining why the rc cars dont have wiring. try it out man, it will kill that thing
Running that mower without the muffler will increase the head and valve temperatures. You will likely congeal the oil or lose a gasket. I've already done that on one that I tried to hotrod.
Also, NEVER use synthetic oil in an air-cooled engine (wasted a $400 engine).
I've been running synthetic oils (Amsoil) in all my small engines, right down to my 4stroke trimmer. I've had no issues in 8 years. I have a 6.25hp 3-in-1 Craftsman Tecumseh mower, I installed an hour meter six years ago when it was two years old and it now has nearly 900 hours with NO maintenance issues. I change the oil every fall before storage. Except for one of my zero turn units, this is the best runner I have right now.
The problem is the Vegetable oil. Used cooking oil, well filtered, runs better. It must be at least half gasoline, you have it right. If the oil seperates, prime the engine with a spoonful of 91% alcohol or gasoline to cold start.
You will probably foul the sparkplug with the mix gas. You may burn the rings since you don't have enough oil.
I agree, Briggs is the best. You should have used it for a go-cart engine. You can drive them hard and then find another cheap mower to rebuild and repower it.
Keep trying it will melt eventually. I tried to destroy a 3hp B&S once by filling the crankcase with water running wide open....it just kept running and running.
ive tryed to kill one i even knocked a 8th inch hole in the piston it ran but it had barely any horse power and very bad blow by with fire coming out the dipstick hole it wont hold oil of corse because of the hole in the piston so i used water instead it would never die it will still run now being 2 years later just needs a new cam the old one melted
haha... tecumsehs r good engines man. I have a 13 year old tecumseh mower and have not had to replace a single part. Briggs are poor starters and have inconsistent power curves.
what Ford model do you have. I once had a chance to get a flat head Ford convertable..this guy wanted to trade it for my Motorcycle...that and giving away a chevy II ( pre nova) are my only regrets in lifw
I like B&S, at one time I had 12 lawn mowers I picked up on the side of the road. They all needed minor repairs. I had them all running at one time + a chain saw and weed wacker. I do not think the neighbors like it much. I have a running B&S engine from th 40s I will post the video here some day on youtube
it wont melt the engine with the alchol at lest i hope not. i run my mower on alchol it runs so much more efficently. but you have to stop it like 50 times to cool it down.
put some rc car fuel threw it that'll kill it
