i have a better trap (in smp) that dont need a BIG tower or something else to spawn the monsters. its max. 10x10 and it brings you every 1 sec <1 gunpowder/feather/or something else. it uses the sign-spawner that is included in falsebook and it can be activatet by redstone. i can let it spawn 60+ monsters per minute and get over 60 items (sometimes more) per minute. i will post that vid in my channel(hopefully)

a way to save water is the 8th block the water flows to dig down that block and it will continue to flow another 8 blocks(hope this isn't to confusing)

Mobs dont go down the current to the incinerator they just sort of float on the floor they spawn in and spiders cant get killed...suggestions?

Hey I built a Mob grinder with a spawn tower which has about 4 rooms for them to sawn 2 blocks high for the mobs but for some reason mobs wont spawn it was working fine bfor the 1.6 patch so is it the update or something else?

i built it with two floors and one floor for the lava killmachine ... but the monsters dont spawn... i have beta 1.6 is that the reason or is the lava lighting too much from the 3 floor ??

@The3BAaM There can't be that much light. Sure you're not playing on passive? This design is pretty outdated, but you should still have some mobs spawning.

@The3BAaM One you might be on peacefull may be a no duh statement but some people forget, two you may not be far enough away from it, and two you may not have given enough room above them to spawn try giving at least 3 spaces high of room for them to spawn. I cant think of any other reasons

it all went great at the beginning. right when i started it 2 skelletons died with this machine. but then nothing. no mobs are spawning. my tower has only one floor but is 20x20 blocks wide. one spider have been there now but thats it. guess i have to build more floors right?

@6ch6ris6 - yeah i had the same problem and i built mine with 2 floors - got a few arrows to begin with and then nothing - mines 16x20 with water currents on every floor and each floor has at least 2 spaces for spawning - wtf - also there is no light source near the tower and my collection room is miles away!

@m0rtalw0mbat123 That happens when the trap is first built. Same thing happened to mine, but after a while, I saw at least 20+ monsters in there at one time.

Except mine was just a giant room built 40 blocks above ground, with water currents designed to push mobs into the only exit, which sends them plummeting.

Hey man, do you need each floor to be completely solid? Will it work if only the floor above your grinder is solid and has the water currents, while the others have a hole where they drop into the first floors water currents?

@FAMASScope Mobs won't jump down holes so you need water currents on all levels. However, having a hole on all higher levels through which mobs fall to the bottom floor is perfectly fine.

I made a mob trap like this but, horizontally, not vertical, does the same principal apply for this? It's about 40x40 and 3 blocks high on ground level, But it doesn't spawn inside the mob killing place instead it spawns on the outside, there monsters. so how can I make them spawn on the inside? Outside is also torched.

the problem with the trap design is that it does not kill smaller animals like chickens and pigs, they just end up at the item pickup point. Do anyone know a design that still works, and is able to kill chickens and pigs as well? Anyways thanks for this vid.

@apoc4223 To do that, just make a drowning trap. It's just as effective, but a BIT harder to make. Just search on youtube how to do it.

@FalconFetus8 Passives spawn on grass (not dirt) and require light. The same system will work, although chickens will come through the grinder.

Could you make part of the walls above ground glass so that passive mobs spawn during the day and then monsters during the night? Also, can you build levels for monsters to spawn underground and they'll still spawn aslong as the seiling is 2 blocks high? Does height of the ceiling affect how manym onsters spawn? eg. 3 blocks high yields more spawn than 2 blocks?

@Goldencoins Mobs don't spawn on air so 2 blocks is as good as 3. Even if you have glass walls there will still be no sunlight coming from the sky because you have a ceiling, so monsters will spawn even during the day (though at a lesser rate due to some sunlight coming in from the sides).

@CnJClips There should be atleast a few. Make sure it's dark, the floors aren't glass or half blocks and that you're 24 blocks away from the spawn areas.

the tower is relly near (20 n less) your spawn point and/or current position

you ligthed up the area of the tower

you put glass in one of the floors

you put the peaceful difficutly

i dont know any other reasons, hope i helped

@mV33rs Make a tunnel with a cactus on either side at the end. At the part where you have the cacti make it go down one square before continuing on to your collection area. The spiders will bump each other into the cacti. Works with chickens too.
