wow, i was surprised to see rankin in the 'MOP'... imho he has always lacked the intellect empathy sincerity or wit that makes a 'master photographer' (now thats a loaded label anyhow). he's a snapper, a photographer yes, not a master / artist. He has nothing to say & that type of imagery gets boring very quickly.

Go and STUDY the work of the people I have mentioned. Photography isnt about snapping a pretty nude girl, true photography is about expressing soul,spirit,emotion and messages through timeless images. Rankin is a snapper, not a thinker, a business man, not an artist. If you cant understand, see nor feel what a Master is, then you cant know when someone isnt one....Teach yourself, look, learn,compare. When you have more knowledge of photography you will know. Rankin would admit all of the above.

As for some of the names you mentioned, yes I would consider them great photographers and even some of them great artists!
