hmm thats debatable but i agree Jet li has more years of experience under his belt lol he's not as young as he looks tony jaa is like 30 or something but a brilliant mauy thai fighter
Tony Jaa would seriously get fucked up. You dont understand that Jet Li is a multiple time Wu shu Champion. No amount of "I dont really use strings" can sub for the fact that Jet Li REALLY DOES THAT SHIT.
@RainboColour What the hell are you talking about he is both. He's won multiple Wushu championships and was trained by a Wushu master when he was young.
@MultiSaadullah Um acually i think he might be right Jet li is like 40 something ....but Tony Jaa is in his early 30's witch means he has stamina on his side so its debatable.....they should have a match
Yes yes. That's Johnny Nguyen fighting Jet Li.. What a lol. He is a very good martial artist and stun man. This might has been one of his firsts roles as extra in the US.
He also was an action double in Mortal Kombat Conquest. I bet he was the double of Bruce Lock in the role of Shang Tsung.
Hey be cool mate, don't be rude. If you're in a martial art world, you shouldn't have hot-temper friend. I'm talking about the Vietnamese guy who's been beaten the shit out by Jet in the first minute of this video clip. The guy name's Johnny Tri Nguyen. He's Viet-American actor, a stun-man for many movies( such as Spider Man 1 as Green Goblin). Search the trailers for "Bay Rong" and "Dong mau anh hung". And you will know what I'm talking about mate ^^. Safety and Peace!
If you know Johnny Tri Nguyen well( the vietnamese guy in the first fight scene) then he's not this bad. Go see his movies "dong mau anh hung" and "bay rong" to see how good he is.
i have made a couple of jet li music videos and they are titled "jet li's best fights" and "jet li's best fights 2" and ofcourse they are added by me 'apnaem'
not really even if two people know what they are doing does not really mean the one guy cant be better. if the one guy is good then there is always a chance
In real life Jet Li would totally whoop his ass but in real life if there were that many guys surrounding him either they would rush him all at the same time or one would take him to the ground with Jujitsu.
yea that is true. in real life ppl can be dirty fighters....reallly dirty fighters. still it would be pretty badass if he was still able to take care of them all even if he got surrounded ya know
maybe but the speacial features in the DVD jet li said he would actually lose to a mma fighter.not saying MMA is the SHIT, but hands down i would root for jetli since he is my child hood action star
He uses mostly Hung Gar Kung Fu which is what I am learning right now. I'm only a white sash and I also know some basics of Jujitsu but I don't really practice Jujitsu at all. My instructor told me Jackie uses more Wing Chun.
Li has studied some styles of wushu, especially Changquan (Northern Longfist Style) and Fanziquan (Tumbling fist). He has also studied other arts including Baguazhang (Eight trigram palm), Taijiquan (Tai chi), Xingyiquan (Shape intent fist), Zuiquan (Drunken fist), and Tang lang quan (Praying mantis fist). all of them Northern Shaolin Styles of the Kung Fu.
@alrightlol Will i agree in a bit since he is a MMA fighter i'm assuming. He would get the upper hand on him in a combat situiation but Jet Li is actually a smart fighter and could think of ways to hurt him just like in the ballz
Indeed. I just saw IP MAN myself, and Donnie Yen is absolutely astonishing in it, especially considering that he had no background in Wing Chun before playing Ip Man.
You know who else is awesome, Johnny Nguyen, who like Jet Li and Mark Dacascos, got sucked into the dribble by Warner Bros. hiring Corey Yuen and making them all think think they were going to make a masterpiece. You have to see THE REBEL, Dragon Dynasty put it out a few months ago.
Make no mistake, Hollywood has made some great ones. my list includes ENTER THE DRAGON, BEST OF THE BEST 1&2, FIST OF THE NORTH STAR, BLOODSPORT, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, BLOODMOON, BALLISTIC: ECKS VS SEVER, THE ONE, KISS OF THE DRAGON, SHANGHAI NOON AND KNIGHTS, DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY, RAPID FIRE, MORTAL KOMBAT, and a few others, but for every great one Hollywood makes, Hong Kong has made at least five, and Thailand (ONG BAK), Japan (MUSCLE HEAT), and Vietnam (THE REBEL) are stepping up too.
honestly, toher than enter the dragon, kiss of the dragon and bloodsport, your hollywood list isn't even that great. I'll admit I haven't seen all the films you mentioned, but Forbidden kingdom had only three good scens really, The One sucked, rapid fire was ok, mortal kombat was ok, shanghai noon and nights are ok. But jackie chan and jet li's hong kong movies were WAY better. Wheels on meals, dragons forever, police story, fist of legend, Hitman, project A, Legend of drunken Master...
Well, let's just agree to disagree on my list, but anyone who loves watching martial arts on film will readily agree that Asian movies in general, and especially Hong Kong movies, nine and a half times out of ten are ten times better than American martial arts movies.
true that. The choreography is so much better. they also have donnie yen, yuen biao, sammo hung, yuen wah and dick wei and billy chow over in Hong Kong. Holly wood fucking sucks. the matrix was my one of my favorite movies but they should've put jet Li as the One instead of keanu reeves who can't act worth a shit. Jackie is still great here but in hong kong he was godlike. Tony Jaa's another guy to look out for. I hope he doesn't come to the US and get ruined.
Donnie Yen is the man!!! Sha Po Lang, Flash Point, Ip Man, Hero, Once Upon A Time In China 2, he'd be my first choice to play Shang Chi once Marvel gets that one going.
And other guys to look out for are Johnny Nguyen, who totally blew C2TG away in The Protector, going toe to toe with Tony Jaa. He made a modern classic with The Rebel, and now he's becoming the big deal in Vietnam. In fact, he'd be my first choice to play Forrest Law in a Tekken sequel.
idk why flash point got such bad reviews. that's one of my favorite movies, and those two fight scenes both make my top 10 fight scenes of all time. Ip Man will be a classic once it's been long enough to call things classics. Johnny Ngyuyen, YES! That's his name. I had forgotten it. His fight with Tony jaa was the best one on one in the movie. i hand't looked up his other movies, but I will look up The Rebel now. Thanks JRserver.
This is nothing more than a glorified rap music video for DMX, a guy who was complaining about having to wear pink in jail (Apparantly, he's too much of a colossal moron to realize that he wouldn't find himself in that situation if he'd just STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!!!)
I don't ever want to see DMX or any of these tenth-rate hacks called "rappers" try to to martial arts on film again, or if they do, don't suck Jet, Mark, or Johnny, into it. They deserve infinitely better this pile of toxic waste.
Isn't it amazing how I want to talk about how much I hated this movie and how much DMX has no business trying to do martial arts on film, and you're the one bringing fellatio into the conversation. What does that tell you. Now, I know you're probably going to respond with "It's tells me uz a muthafuckin bitch who can suck my dick anddie, ya pussy bitch", but your only illustraing my point, which is that DMX is a moron and Hong Kong makes better Martial Arts movies than Hollywood.
LOL! Yes, indeed, we be makin him lose his mu fuckin mind up in here.
Rap and martial arts are highly contradictory by their very nature. Rap is all about sex, drugs, money, ego, and domination through violence. Martial arts are about skill, peace, honor, respect, and humility. This is why Jet, Johnny, and Mark went on to make far better martial arts films than this, because they understand that if you let those principles guide your story and choreography, making a classic is a piece of cake.
Aside from the fact that your two definitions for 'rap' and 'martial arts' are the most highly stereotypical and incorrect responses I've ever seen; Your entire argument is wholeheartedly biased and completly naive.
However, my opinion is that Jet and DMX are both great actors that bring different traits to the table; and like the world around them, they are changing an otherwise streamlined martial arts genre. I enjoy both old and new martial arts movies, yet it would be unfair...
...to subject their various differences in such a critical manner. DMX is not what you want in a martial arts movie with someone like Jet Li, this is apparent. However, DMX is not a bad actor, nor is he unintelligent. I'm willing to bet he makes more money in one year than any of us do in twenty. You can call him whatever you want, but there was some intelligent design in there somewhere...most likely in creating multiple albums that attract such a large, diverse audience.
You seem like a reasonable individual from your previous comments, so I'm only trying to get across the fact that if something goes in a different direction than you like, the factors in making that turn are NOT undoubtedly wrong in any way. It is instead, and always will be, an opinionated feeling.
Well, I have to say, you could certainly teach dmsdarkmanshock a thing or two about how to debate the pro's and con's or mixing rap and martial arts.
I've done martial arts half of my life, so obviously, I love watching it on film. In my opinion there are two primary categories of martial arts movies: Action movies that place emphasis on martial arts, and epic's that are about martial arts. Obviously, C2TG falls into the former category, and there are many classics (including some with Jet Li)
that are such, but to me, even if your making something that's just about kicking ass where the martial arts are basically eye candy, when you place such an equal emphasis on rap music, 9 times out of 10, you have a recipe for disaster. This is partially because the emphasis transfers to the rap music rather than the martial arts.
Also, the problem here is that DMX is supposed to be a kind anti-hero that the audience empathizes with, and I'm sorry, but, he may have acting talents, but....
this type of character is not his forte. That's why I was so stunned to learn that I actually liked NEVER DIE ALONE more than C2TG. I think it's because DMX was playing a kind of Tony Montana-knock off, which is essentially what most rappers see themselves as.
KISS OF THE DRAGON has alot of rap music in it, but it's far better than C2TG, mainly because the focus is on the martial arts, even though it, like C2TG, falls into the first category I listed.
was the fights between Jet Li and Johnny Nguyen and Jet Li and Mark Dacascos just felt so substandard, especially considered how equally talented Johnny and Mark are. Both have made some modern classics (Johnny first lead in THE REBEL was the entire reason I was inspired to learn Vovinam).
Ultimately, I just felt like C2TG pushed aside it's cast of some of the world's greatest martial artists in favor of making a glorified rap video where people ocassionally get kicked in the face.
I understand. But I still agree with my aforementioned opinion of bringing change to an otherwise streamlined genre. Whether it starts off as good or bad, directors can only learn and improve upon mistakes. Ultimately, I believe this new way of incorperating rap and famous U.S. actors into martial arts films dominated by talented Asian actors will eventually become an even more fascinating, yet entertaining genre than it is today.
Johnny went on to make THE REBEL and Jet went on to make THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, HERO, UNLEASHED, and FEARLESS, all modern Martial Arts classics.
CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE is the perfect example of everything that's wrong with how Hollywood makes martial arts movies. Throw in just enough martial arts to technically get you buy, and drown the whole thing in RAP MUSIC, which is basically what they did with ROMEO MUST DIE, but that still had great martial arts.
With all this movie had going for it, they pushed Jet Li, Mark Dacascos, and Johnny Nguyen (the alley fighter) aside, gave the whole thing over to DMX and a few other rappers to totally destroy with their inability to look like fighters (DMX's knees strikes are blunt at best) and all of their REALLY, REALLY BAD MUSIC.
CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE is end result. I could not have been more stoked to see it, or more let down when I finally did.
ACTUALLY, the tougher guy is DMX, he's taking on like a dozen cops AND their cars AND some dirt bike do gooder douche...and he's black. He'd fuck Jet Li up bad.
a real martial artist would kick an mma fighters ass with one move just incase u didnt kno, thats all it takes to take someone down, hit them in the right area and there dead, pressure points, stuff like that real masters would kno, thats y u dont see them fighting in a ring like wild animals

this type of character is not his forte.
Finally, what ultimately let me down.....

was the fights between Jet Li and Johnny Nguyen and Jet Li and Mark Dacascos just felt so substandard, especially considered how equally talented Johnny and Mark are.
