  • Thanks for throwing this up, its going to add such a fun thing to my stuff!

  • There is a preset like this already present in Live since version 6. Just look for "fade to grey".

  • Fed, simpel ide. Det skal prøves.

  • Yeah! I use this same effect, but i group the two effects and I put the delay time (left and right) to 1 so it's a quick look and it sounds awesome. :)

  • Couldn't you do the same thing with beat repeat's Repeat trigger? or am I missing something.

  • @Mixikyr The repeat trigger on beat repeat can only be on or off at any one time ... its just a switch.

The idea in this video lets you morph between the mapped values.

  • this song is so cool!! where can i hear this? do you have a soundcloud?

  • fuck yea dude. this is awesome. i was seeking something cool like this for my vocal samples and you nailed it. thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • Awesome Tip

  • Cool stuff Mate!

  • i like, useful for DJ i bet...

  • thanks for the demo. i'll try it out!

  • you know, that there is already an effect, called [turn to grey] or something like this, which makes exactly, what you're showing here ;)

    nice post, although... =)

  • NICE. Bruger det på et par af mine tracks når jeg spiller live! Tak, mand!

  • uhh... so this is basically the hard way to make fade to grey??

  • @soseugs how is this hard? It takes all of about 2 minutes to load up an autofilter, a simple delay, and midi map the three parameters.

  • Just so everyone knows, there is a way to control this effect without assigning multiple parameters to a MIDI knob (or other control) with the use of audio effect racks and assigning the parameters to one macro (which can also then be controlled with MIDI). Also, just a question, is this not the EXACT same concept behind the previously programmed "Fade to Grey" feature? And if so, then really this is just a less smooth version of that effect. No offense. Give credit where it's due is all.

  • What's basically happening here is the hi-pass filter's frequency is increased to the maximum in the process eliminating all the mid and lo frequencies eventually only allowing the extremly high frequencies which only your dog or horse can pick up. In the meatime your applying a delay with maximum feedback then suddenly dropping the delay to 0% feedback, this creates this hold effect on the hi-pass filter.

  • er det ikke næsten det samme som bare at booste mids med en pingpong delay?

    fed musik btw :-)

  • great could use this

  • Super cool sammensætning.. må indrømme at man jo ikke selv kan lade være med at bruge dit lille trix her..

Hilsner fra endnu en ableton bruger.. =0)

  • thanks man!!! cool trick

  • Cool technique

  • Auto Filter / Simple Delay

Denne effekt bliver mest brugt til Trance, House, Minimal techno og Electrohouse, som en uplifting effekt der giver mere energi til nummeret, lige inden man rammer omkvædet i sangen eller hovede melodien

  • man do you now how to do that efect =flUNBl9WR9U this guy do a cool efect with his voice

  • a better fx is put 2 filters on the master aswell as simple delay.

highlight the part on ur song u want the efect on and automate the flter n resonence on 1 low pass filter

do the same with a high pass

then automate the dry/wet n feedback...

i used this efect in my new song Double Drop.. cheak it out on my page.

  • Somewhat like a beat repeat. Nice one!

  • yea man thats cool but i think the beat repeat would work just as gd but nice way to make that effect

  • Sounds great , thanks for the this!

  • great video.. the sound qualities not bad but if you want to get it perfect just get an audio interface and record it into ableton or whatever software comes with the interface and it will just a be a .wav file of the audio.

  • bro. no joke ive been looking for how to stutter entire tracks for the longest. thannnk you. 5 stars + sub

  • good for transitions, nuthin 2 special if u ask me tho...

  • is it just me or am i not hearing anything ??

  • grunntall what do you mean

  • hehe nevermind man, It was just a youtube bug, i just refreshed the video and it worked. : )

  • @grunntalll ok cool, I like the fade to grey effect also it works like this

  • this is great, perfect for transitions and breakdowns. thanks!

  • CHECK OUT MY NEW VIDEO - electro music freestyle @ Tonspieler

within maschine, padkontrol, remote sl and uc 33e

  • same shit that "Fade to gray effect"

  • i like your track :) thanks for the tip

  • If you are havin problems recording sound from ableton whilst doing a screen capture, record additionally using something like nero wave editor. works for me. cheers

  • OMG!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH OEVBOEV!!!

This affect has turn some of my basic music into orgasms!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Dav fra Færøerne, Fed video!

Ska prøve det der I morgen :D

PS, din video er favorite på Ableton's youtube profil.

    Hyg!

  • tak for info!!! nu bliver man stolt!

  • en dansker?

  • jepper

  • A variant: use low-pass filter instead of high-pass (so the leftmost filter selection button), bump up the resonance (or map it to another knob), and invert the filter frequency control, so that when you crank up the feedback and dry/wet, the filter frequency goes _down_ (and vice versa). Pretty nice.

I also found it useful to group the two effects into a audio effect rack; then you can set up the mappings on the rack's knobs, and MIDI map to them.

    Thanks!

  • Nice effect.

The HQ version of this video doesn't (for me at least) include the actual demo. It stops at 1:41.

  • cool effect bro... you need to use camtasia 6 for recording straight from your screen with audio picked up straight from your computers speakers.. or even vegas 8.. check other youtube links to get free download copies of these software.. peace

  • thanks, nice technique, this gives me ideas on other stuff.

  • hmmm. Gonna use this in making music in ableton, just cus it's possible lol

  • the same results offers you the filter delay effect!!!

  • wow, simply great man i like the way u share big tips in a humble way. i already subscribed you i learn creative stuff from you videos. cheers from venezuela

  • yeahn i use able for effects rack threw sends an returns on my mackie d2 mixer

  • Are there any other bands or artists doing this kinda music? , is there a name to this genre? im diggin this

  • Does anyone know how to Use Ableton Live as an effect processor.I am using one macbook with traktor pro and i wanna use another macbook with ableton as an effetor, there are much moore great effects than traktor pro has,,, PLEASE HELP ME !!!!

  • sweet tutorial... very helpful!

  • How do you use an effect on all the tracks at the same time ?? thanks

  • Put the effect on return or master track

  • nice idea and good piece of music , where can i listen the full song if possible?

  • good music man

    and nice effect

  • another good tips (i have nothing to do today) for guys who like when beats goes freaky and glitchy...

instead of the simple use the grain delay and try to set up it like this: spray=0, freq=150, pitch=+1, +2 or whatever you like, rnd pitch=0, feedback, dry/wet and time set and mapped as in your video.

hihi! who guess what will happen?

best results when going straight into a pumping compressor!

    cheers

  • Ooo, very glitchy, thanx! And thank you oevboev for sharing : )

  • nice! good on breaks!

i suggest you to map also the delay time on another control, it should be hot in live performances.

i've tryed the same stuff mapping the utility's width (100% to 200%) instead of the filter's freq, that's interesting cause it gives you a stereo fx during the transition.

    anyway, thanks for the hint!

    mr.jane

  • please help me! it wont let me modulate more than one parameter to one nob, wheel etc! help!

  • if you try to assign a command to a knob that already has one it normally shoul ask you whether to reassign it or assign it new.

  • Thanks...gud tip!!

  • if you could have muted almost all the tracks except the one your were effecting, it might have helped us to figure out more of what you did bro.

  • Ok now I get what he was doing. Might be a cool way to create some interesting delayed percussion parts.

  • interesting.. i haven't yet mapped different effects to the same control knob but think i will give it a go and see what i can come up with...

  • This is cool,, maybe you could host a before and after MP3 so people can sample the effect and how it sounds clearly, you could put it in the video description :)

  • Thanks again, nice effect ill be using this live.

  • i'll give this a shot, i was wondering what to do with the modulation wheel on my keyboard. will comment again on my results.

  • I liked this effect alot. The tune sound awsome too. Kind I listen to it somewhere?

  • hey your music itself sounds pretty interesting, anywhere I could hear it?

  • great tutorial. i'm gonna go mess about with this effect now :D

  • when i first saw it i thought "this is useless, beat repeat does the same thing", but after giving it a go, i understand its not the same. this is a nice effect, much more texture than beat repeat, and fun to mess with.

    great post!

  • thx man!

  • Im not sure what version of Ableton you are using but you can create that sound with ping pong delay which sounds better. Just set the filter top left, 4 bar sync and turn to wet.

  • isn't this sort of the exact same thing you do with beat repeat using one effect?

  • An excellent question swedishboy.

I was asked the same thing a year ago when I posted it and my answer is that you might be right. I just havent got that effect out of beat repeat or seen how to get exactly this hold effect from it.

If you can enlighten us post a reply video or reply here.

    Andreas

  • no, its pretty different because its only delaying whats being filtered. has much more texture than the beat repeat.

  • nice. now this is a new effect in my dj-set. cheers

  • im honored to hear that. have fun

  • aahhhh! thats amazing i will give it a go thanks for posting !

  • thx!

  • Nice Work! I like your style :D

  • thx!

  • gonna try it out now! thanx for the tip =)

to watch this vid and others on youtube in

HIGH QUALITY: copy this: &fmt=18 and paste it at the end of the url of the video ur watching

(it worked very well on this vid so...)

  • That is really cool, thanks for sharing!

  • np, glad u like it

  • thats a bangin trick man. im gonna try usein this on my snares/claps

  • Cool, If you make something nice I'd love to hear where you taking it stylistically...

    Enjoy and Thanks!

  • Great trick!!! And um you can just record your stereo out in ableton and use that audio file underneath the video for better audio quality!

    Im going to try this...

  • Thx for the reply, glad you like it!

And about the audio quality....of course - I will do that I think.....thanks:)

  • That was ace. I will use that all the time now.

How did you make that cool guitar sound?

    Any source files??

    Thanks

  • Hey Mr. Freeman

    Thanx for commenting!

Let me try and remember, I havent got the file any longer.

Yes, I played the guitar myself - it was just some chords, and then did a lot of volume automations in the clip view - and those automations made all the difference:)

    Cheers

  • thats an awesome little trick there, i just tried it out. i also attached the resonance to the same fader as the feedback, wet dry, frequency..... which made it even more awesome

  • Thx for the positive feedback. It´s a great idea to attach the resonator to the chain!

  • thanx mate? did i hear a german accent?

    cheers

  • A german accent..hehe..well you're not that far off, I'm Danish:)

  • awesome, i´m from Hamburg... just started out with life 2 months ago.... need any kind of tutorials. hows ur music goin?

  • Wow. What a cool & simple tip! Thanks!!!!

  • thx a lot dude:)

  • ..dudette...there are a _few_ girls out there doing this as well.... ;)

I just bought an akai mpd35 today and have mapped out the MIDI for this and it's working like a dream!

  • So happy to hear you're using it!

  • And sry for my sex ignorance:)

  • That was SICK. I really wish you'd post some more videos. You have some great techniques.

  • thx dude, really appreciate your comment, and I will try and make more...as soon as possible. But thx man, your reply gave me a kick.

  • woah sick tunes

  • hey really like your music, u really should find a way to record better cound quality because its great stuff! Thanks for the tip on the effects, sounds awesome, do u out those effects on the master channel?

  • Thanks a lot Jack.

And, yes, I know bout the sound, I will research and learn and eventually make videos with better sound:)

I've mostly used the hold-effect on the master track, but do whatever sounds good to you, there are pros and cons as to where to put it...:)

  • Endless innovation ! cheers for the tip mate :)

  • So glad you like it!

  • try fade to grade from dj audio fx rack, its only eq+ping pong delay but it sound great!

  • Thats a great effect man, i use the pitch bend effect with the grain delay all the time now and i love this 1 too...

Keep up the good work oevboev!

  • So good to hear jez! Response like that makes me wanna make more videos.

Hope you've read the "About this video" for the pitch bend/grain delay effect.

  • Great work, I WILL have a lot of fun and try this stuff out.

  • Just tried it out! Fantastic! For more fun try this:

MIDI map the delay amount to other midi keys. I have an AKAI MPD16 and I can step up the number of delay, while tweaking the other three parameters.

  • Hey Bananaxtree

Thx a bunch for commenting my video and even making a video reply! Getting this serious feedback really makes me wanna put up more of my Ableton tricks.

I like your thoughts on MIDI-mapping the delay time it sounds really good.

"Show people you're not just playing music off iTunes" - I liked that comment, that is very important to me too.

    Cheers,

    Andreas

  • it's incredible how easy is to find some cool features on Ableton Live by "accident". I know how does it feel! nice video

  • thanks a lot, arandomdj! So you've stumbled on effect accidents too? Anything you feel like sharing? Have fun and thx for the comment.

  • ...but your music is very good.i like it :)

  • Thanks a lot dude!

I feel kind of shy sharing any personal information on youtube forums like this but would like to get in contact with you about this topic! If it's possible I'll send a private youtube message to you with my e-mail adress.

  • I just sent you a private message, hope it works!

  • Try raising the Q factor of the auto filter for more drastic results.

    :) Ben

  • Good idea! I'll try that!

  • hi,you must have interval on 1/32.beat repeat on and you can do this by toggling "repeat" on/off.if yoz want i can send you some example to your mail.I have behringer bcr2000 and i do this effect very simply.i control filter too.i appologize for my english.i am czech.icq 218264424

  • hi,its nice, but u can only use beat repeat and its the same

  • Really? can you explain how to achieve that result? I mean settings and so on...
