How big do they get? Im looking for a small/ medium dog and i found this breed when looking at huskys((i know they arent small dogs but i love huskys<3)). I read about them but after my last exprince were i read about an animal im not so sure what to trust anymore. ^ ^ so could u feel me in please
@elftails Yup maximum411 has it right. Sorry for not replying sooner, your reply got lost in my email. Also, if your son has a treat bag, have him always carry it around with him so the dog will associate treats/rewards with him.
@pungentmunchkin Thx for your speedy response! Breeder told us it's not uncommon for klee kai's to be standoffish...hmm. Anyway, yes, he loves treats, got any 'particular' suggestions as to how he should train puppy (to come to him) by using treats? We'd be MOST appreciative!!!!!
Our son just adopted a 4 mo. klee kai about a wk ago...poor thing is very standoffish, still won't come to our son after lots of patient working with him, got any special tips on how to get through this first hurdle?
@elftails Unfortunately, I haven't seen that in any AKK that I've met. (I have 2 and have seen a few at the breeders we got ours from and also someone in my neighborhood has one). I think it'll just take patience and training. I know the way to my dog's hearts is through their stomachs.
have your son feed your dog treats/food by hand, and once the dog is comfortable taking food from him have him start petting the dog while feeding him. the dog will come to associate your son with food and comfort and should eventually overcome his shyness
You are a brave woman, owning 2 AKKs. I could never have the patience for 2 troublemakers. I definitely agree with you with the way to AKK is through their tummies. Panda (my AKK) will do anything for a treat and her favorite toys are puzzle toys that have treats in them. I got a book '101 Dog Tricks' and my dog does well with the tricks featured in the book. I was thinking I could pass that on to you as well.
If you crate your dogs you have to make sure to really not let up just because the dogs are cute and will whine as they get used to being crated. It's one of the harder processes, but it will be absolutely worth it if you stick to it as you'll be able to keep your bed to yourself and it will be a lot easier when you take your dogs with you if you travel as they will have a place familiar to them.
We've taught them how to shake without treats so they're not just pawing at what's in our hand, but yeah that's how you first get them to learn. Actually, the little one doesn't paw at your hand he tries to prod with his nose.
hey love the video can i ask what sort of size do they get as adult huskies? i heard only 13 inches approx that true? in height i mean sorry and about 20-22lbs? please help as i really want to get one for an appartment
Your numbers are about right. I think it's around 15 inches at the shoulders and the weight seems about right. Our smaller one who is a miniature is between 10-15 lbs.
how can you teach them stuff like turning around, shaking, sitting and all?do you have to show them or something? i am about to buy an akk and i know they are really smart!!
The way to an akk's heart is through its stomach. You must prove you're the alpha dog or that there's some benefit in it for them. The easiest way to get them to sit is have a treat in your hand and put it above their head and to look at your hand they will naturally put their butt down. Capture this event by saying, "sit" and then reward them when they do it. That's pretty much how you train all dogs, it's just a little harder with northern type breeds.
I checked out your videos. Nice dogs, we were contemplating on getting a third, but we'll probably wait a little while longer as our little one loves all the attention and I don't think a new puppy would rub him the right way.
ok the litle one is a siberian husky pupp with big ears, and the another one is a siberian husky without tail thats to big for a alaskan klee kai.some one stole u
Hi dontHate25 if you go to alaskankleekai(dot)com there's a list of breeders there. The price ranges depending on breed or pet quality and breeder. The highest I have ever seen one listed for was around $2500, but that was for the very rare red ones.

Hi, I've been thinking about an AKK. Do you crate yours, and do they do better with crating?

You know you can't actually teach them to shake your hand like you can make them sit, if they want something in your hand they'll paw it!

How cute!
Is the smaller one a toy breed or a new pup?
Haha good work, I could never get my dogs to shake well.
giiwii 3 years ago
They are both Alaskan Klee Kai (which was a breed developed in the 70's to be a miniature husky). The smaller one was a pup at the time.
