Hey i live in virginia and i was wondering anyone every hunt for turkeys in the Remmington and warrenton part of virginia? this is my first time going turkey hunting and i could use some tips for hunting turkeys in our great commonwealth of va!

After your first call (hen) and he answered I would have not called again. As close as he was he would be allmost in gun range after he flew down. Why would he want to come to a hen with a gobbler (your next call) unless he was a boss tom. Why would he want to come to another gobbler if no hen call. When they do come in and stop and display out of range they want the decoys to come to him. That is how it is done in nature. Just wait. Remember he is the one that wants the sex.
Blue carpenters chalk works the best to chalk up a box call. A piece of chalk not the powder. I will have to agree that your box calling needs a little practice. Once I had a lot of horrible calling going on out in front of me and I thought it was some teenage hunters in our club. It really p_____me off. About twenty minutes later a gang of over twenty turkeys came by me from the same direction. I could not believe they had made that noise. It was during the fall season. Thanksgiving dinner.
Navajopa31 cont. It could take 40 minutes for him to come in. To get him in range soft purrs of clucks with mouth call. Do not move especially if you can see him. Usually you will see his white head first. If a hen comes to your calling, shut up she better than you. Full camo and very slow movement of barrel is a must. Do not gobble especially on public land. You could get shot. I killed one almost every opening day for years. I never gobbled while hunting. Decoys will bring him in for the shot
He is some advice from a central Va. retired hunter. Go out 2 or 3 days before the season and locate a gobbler with a crow call or gobble box. Be there before sunup. If one gobbles move and locate another. Repeat this until they are all on the ground. Opening morning go and set up where they were. Put out two hen decoys within 25 feet of you and hen call only. If he gobbles he knows within 10 feet of where you are. If he gobbles closer he is coming to you. Only call if he hangs up. Have gun up.
Kevin, one of the only really neat things I was ever able to build with my hands was a box call in Lee County High, circa 1993. Where is this BTW, near Richmond or Lynchburg? Hello from Czech Republic!

i live in chesapeake and i hunt in suffolk. i shot at a long beard this morning but it was a 50 yard shot with a shotgun so of course i didnt get him
