P.S. By the way, didn't know you had a cat LOL! A dog too? Does your family take care of them or do you?
Hi Rina, we only have Cats(2 from one nest, brother and sister) my son Robin chose them when he was 5, one because it was bold and daring and the other because it was shy and timide(ying-yang). We as a whole family take care of them. Thanks Rina also for your Musical taste, and depth to bring it forward, as you've noticed I'm interested in real Music no plastic stuff, Music as an Artform should never be mis-used for whatever purpose, hug, Vic.
Vic, I giggled when I read your comment about your cat vomiting, cuz you rarely talk about your personal life other than music and I thought "Hey, this guy has a Cat?! lol!". I'd love to hear more about your Zen practice someday, when we both have time. You're my mentor, Vic. :)
Thanks, yeah Frank I thought I saw it in favorites, always fine that a Jazzlover digs my Stuff, always welcome man, just see they made the Vid screen larger nice,Vic.
Yeah, cause usually when i see a min 7 chord i automatically think the 11 chord and i'll play 11-V licks, same thing with dom7 chords i'll play 11-V licks. Is this a bad way of thinking or am i on my way to musical freedom?
Hi bald john, you're thinking is correct, there are many, many playing concepts in Jazz that all work very well once they're settled in your ears, you just have to have a steady studying routine to absorb them and make them your own,Greets Vic.
i have to ask and this might be a stupid question, but im still a beginner. When your playing over the Gmin7 are you thinking G dorian or G aeolian or a combination of both or none at all? Also, do you have any advice on learning how to improv smoothly over chord changes?
Hi John, I look at the surrounding in which chords are placed let's say an holistic approach, I know my traids well, for instance if the Gmi has a connection with C7 or Ami (F) then I know the mother-scale is Fmajor and the Gmi7 has to be treated as the second degree of F which is G dorian. Smooth improvisation comes with years of studying and understanding what notes work well over different types of chords,no instant solutions here, but years of trial and error,Greets Vic.
Hi Fanqueen, they don't produce these guitars anymore, but am I glad I bought one back in the olden days(eighties), one of the advantages of being old,LOL,greets Vic.
As usual, your taste and skill show through. Had a nice gig again Friday. Again those crazy red necks dug some jazz we through at them. Strange world out there Vic. Keep em coming brother.
Hi Zinnington, keep sneeking in your Jazz man cause the new generation wont even know the meaning in a few years, thanks for your great comment, greets Vic.
Thanks Tommy, glad you checked this one out, those old Wes recordings still unmatched in playing even nowadays, Wes was ahead of his time, even left George Benson flabbergasted, glad you enjoyed man, greets Vic.
Outstanding Victor, and looks like great fun! Such an incredibly mellow tone from your guitar. Are you going direct in, or dropping a mic in front of your amp? 5***** -Derek
Thanks Jogi,I've received your CD and I'm really enjoying it,I'll soon give you a personal response, a very nice live registration indeed, with great public response, thanks so much for sending it, till very soon Vic.
Thanks Pablo, well here I didn't do much preparation,of course I know the changes, just briefly jammed and after that recorded, it kinda came out fresh for myself like a surprise here and there,I played on metronome 190,and I've heard Wes playing it round 250. Well I know Summertime(original) and guess Wes did some re-harmonization and made an interesting progression out of it, I didn't know that, thanks for the knowledge, great comment, greets Vic.
It's a very interesting re-harmonisation, isn't it? Wes made it into a completely new thing in which the original tune is hardly 'visible'. I've learnt a lot from it. In particular how free we can actually be in jazz.
Yes Pablo, I have got a book from the Dutch master Jazz guitarist"Wim Overgaauw" (RIP),he talked about alternative harmonizations, sometimes it's so free that you can not grasp the logic in the progressions anymore compared with the original, interesting subject, this could last hours, greets Vic.
Catch up time! What a great tune and playing, Vic! Wes is one of my all time favorites. My first Wes' music was a Blue Note 2-record set of him and his brothers Buddy and Monk (The Mastersounds) when I was in my teens. Still one of my favorite record sets till this day. I've since bought other records and CDs of Wes' music. You've done the master's work very well! Yes, indeedy!!! 8-)
Hi brother Scott, glad you commented on this one,man I remember starting at "Sweelinck-conservatory" Amsterdam and this world was totally new, I heard this guy and my mouth fell open, what Artistry, from that moment I was determined to plunge into the Jazz-lake and find out to certain extent what these incredible musicians where doing,I'm glad I've succeeded a little on this interesting path.great comment Scott, greets Vic.
Victor,I just went and watched my first Wes Montgomery vid, He is very good and I can see the similarities. You dear friend are truly as great ...possibly better and I am sure you will gain in even more depth through the years.
The wonderful soothing sounds as well as that lovely smile will make this another one I will watch many times. Your enthusiasm is very much evident and contagious.
Thanks so much Margaret,it's great you're comparing me to Wes but for now I'm glad I can stand in his Shadow and learn from him, there's much truth in your remarks, my aim is certainly to grow as a musician (also as a human being), there isn't a day that I don't play, I'm totally in love with Music, always hearing all these sounds in my head. When you truly "love" your enthusiasm will always show, honored you took this one to your favorites, very much appreciated, big hug for you,Vic.
Thanks Eddie, go ahead my friend, you got all Hendrix solo's (and own improvisations on his theme's) now a little Jazz studying can't do no harm, once you're in there it won't let you go, Greets Vic.
Thanks Husky, well I cannot get a greater compliment,I'm popularizing this style and glad of that, because a new generation has to take over before it dies out and luckily it's happening, here in Holland there are some fine young Dutch Jazzers, greets Vic.
That's nice Martin hearing this from a very good player, you know I love you all for your support and attention, will be looking out for your new Stuff, greets Vic.
I've listen this song before from the album "Artistry of Wes Montgomery". It very complex chord progression! I can't get the correct lines over the progression although I reduce it speed. If you ever have Jim Kelly lesson, he put this chord progression into the lesson (and I still can't play it ^^). You're so amazing Vic, I'm jealous for your playing! Hope you can give your jazz lesson here, we will so appreciate!
Thanks Lanang my friend for your heart-warming comment, I've done a few Jazz(Blues) lessons here on the Tube that where highly appreciated and you probably mean do a lesson on this specific chord progression. Once I read in my Zen-book,one has to be a fast thinker and I've trained myself on this subject,it pays off in these Tunes, will think about your proposal,Greets Vic(thanks for your ears).
Wow,Tamara I think this so sweet of you ,I'm so caught up in giving music lessons and preparing new Stuff for the Tube, I didn't even pay attention to this(strange in a way) I'm flabbergasted by your lovely attention, a very big warm hug for you,I really appreciate this, Victor. :)
LOL, no problem at all my friend! Congratulations on the honours! Hope the new stuff for YouTube is going well, I look really forward to seeing it! Have a brilliant weekend, Love, Tamara xx
i have a very very old wes record of this, but it's all scratched and barely audible :-( but now when i want to here it i can come here instead :-)very nice!
Hi Fred, don't do away with those Oldies cause you'll still hear fantastic licks on them. man that's a great compliment, I hope you're not comparing me to Wes though, enough trouble standing in his shadow, lol, thanks for dropping in and greets to Marlene,Vic.
glad to see you turned commenting back on so I could tell you "you rock!". Or in this case, "you swing!". I have Wes' recording of this and you do it justice indeed. Very nice.
Thanks Frets200,my main objective is to keep amazing myself this has nothing to do with selfishness but keeping the fire burning inside, you understand what I mean, greetings Vic.
Dear Vic! I love Wes' music and this version from you is brilliant. I love the sound of that guitar! Ahhh ... wish I had it... sigh. Your musicallity shines!! Keep it shining!

aleksandersucharski 1 year ago
@aleksandersucharski How can you be a musician without being a philosopher, it's practically the same to me. Vic.
Jazzguts 1 year ago
@RickGabeSound
It is actually called Four On Six because the piece is structured with a 4/4 signature superimposed over a 6/8 signature. Hence - 'Four On Six'.
chooseyourblues 1 year ago
@chooseyourblues I don't think so,although it's a neat found explanation. Four fingers on Six strings is the real thing.

Thanks, yeah Frank I thought I saw it in favorites, always fine that a Jazzlover digs my Stuff, always welcome man, just see they made the Vid screen larger nice,Vic.
Jazzguts 3 years ago
Yeah, cause usually when i see a min 7 chord i automatically think the 11 chord and i'll play 11-V licks, same thing with dom7 chords i'll play 11-V licks. Is this a bad way of thinking or am i on my way to musical freedom?
baldheadedjohn 3 years ago
Hi bald john, you're thinking is correct, there are many, many playing concepts in Jazz that all work very well once they're settled in your ears, you just have to have a steady studying routine to absorb them and make them your own,Greets Vic.
Jazzguts 3 years ago
what do you mean by 11-V licks? :P

Jazzguts 3 years ago
i have to ask and this might be a stupid question, but im still a beginner. When your playing over the Gmin7 are you thinking G dorian or G aeolian or a combination of both or none at all? Also, do you have any advice on learning how to improv smoothly over chord changes?
baldheadedjohn 3 years ago
Hi John, I look at the surrounding in which chords are placed let's say an holistic approach, I know my traids well, for instance if the Gmi has a connection with C7 or Ami (F) then I know the mother-scale is Fmajor and the Gmi7 has to be treated as the second degree of F which is G dorian. Smooth improvisation comes with years of studying and understanding what notes work well over different types of chords,no instant solutions here, but years of trial and error,Greets Vic.

Outstanding Victor, and looks like great fun! Such an incredibly mellow tone from your guitar. Are you going direct in, or dropping a mic in front of your amp? 5***** -Derek
AnchoriteProductions 3 years ago
Thanks, Anchorite, it's direct in for me, a little EQ usage and balancing, that's it,nothing complicated except playing,LOL,greets Vic.

Jazzguts 3 years ago
Great take on it. I've noticed some new lines you weren't wont to trying before. Very nice.
And that's one of my favourite pieces by Wes. I play it regularly on gigs. Ever noticed it's based on the changes of Summertime?
pabzum 3 years ago
Thanks Pablo, well here I didn't do much preparation,of course I know the changes, just briefly jammed and after that recorded, it kinda came out fresh for myself like a surprise here and there,I played on metronome 190,and I've heard Wes playing it round 250. Well I know Summertime(original) and guess Wes did some re-harmonization and made an interesting progression out of it, I didn't know that, thanks for the knowledge, great comment, greets Vic.
Jazzguts 3 years ago
It's a very interesting re-harmonisation, isn't it? Wes made it into a completely new thing in which the original tune is hardly 'visible'. I've learnt a lot from it. In particular how free we can actually be in jazz.
pabzum 3 years ago

Your enthusiasm is very much evident and contagious.
be well ...... tender hugs...m.
marmacy 3 years ago
Thanks so much Margaret,it's great you're comparing me to Wes but for now I'm glad I can stand in his Shadow and learn from him, there's much truth in your remarks, my aim is certainly to grow as a musician (also as a human being), there isn't a day that I don't play, I'm totally in love with Music, always hearing all these sounds in my head. When you truly "love" your enthusiasm will always show, honored you took this one to your favorites, very much appreciated, big hug for you,Vic.

LanangYogya 3 years ago
Thanks Lanang my friend for your heart-warming comment, I've done a few Jazz(Blues) lessons here on the Tube that where highly appreciated and you probably mean do a lesson on this specific chord progression. Once I read in my Zen-book,one has to be a fast thinker and I've trained myself on this subject,it pays off in these Tunes, will think about your proposal,Greets Vic(thanks for your ears).
Jazzguts 3 years ago
Sure I've looked for the lesson but diminished is too far for my ability... I just need lesson for dummies maybe :)
LanangYogya 3 years ago
Hi Lanang there's also a more elementary lesson on the Tune "Broadway" you'll also find this lesson playlist: instruction-Video's greets Vic.
