  • beautiful sound, and impecable playing, the guitar is the George Benson model? great tone Vic

  • @jcfiallos Thank you for your ultra fine words, greetings Vic.

  • Hey Vic! Which guitar is that?

  • @anvr26 It's a GB20 Ibanez,taken out of production some years ago,but it remains my darling,Vic.

  • what do you usually play during the quick 2-5-1 parts?

  • What pickup do you have on that GB20 sounds real nice.

  • @docbop Seymour Duncan Seth lover,thanks.

  • great playing, check out my videos of jazz playing, i have one of this same song but it's not nearly as good as this.

  • @mildew234 Thanks,as soon as I have some time I will,Vic.

  • Very nice playing!!!

  • @jamestdawson Thank you my pleasure,long live the Jazz,Vic.

  • What model of guitar are you playing? I love the tone. Nice looking Axe!

  • @stringbender57 Thanks,it's a GB20 Ibanez,taken out of production quite some years ago,vic.

  • do you know why its called Four on Six?

  • @RickGabeSound Four fingers (left hand) on six strings,Vic.

  • @Jazzguts not too much philosophy then. good too know, i was wondering about it too :) you just thought this through, or read in some kind of biography or something?

  • @aleksandersucharski How can you be a musician without being a philosopher, it's practically the same to me. Vic.

  • @RickGabeSound

It is actually called Four On Six because the piece is structured with a 4/4 signature superimposed over a 6/8 signature. Hence - 'Four On Six'.

  • @chooseyourblues I don't think so,although it's a neat found explanation. Four fingers on Six strings is the real thing.

  • @Jazzguts

Check out the Wes Montgomery live in Europe '65 DVD for Ronnie Scott's introduction of Wes before his performance and his explanation of why it's called Four On Six.

  • @chooseyourblues Thanks I'll do that, and listen for myself, Wes was smart making such a title which is due to many forms of speculation,a damn good promotion.

  • I can never seem to get the progression that starts with a Cm9 to a F something and descends to a Bbm9 etc. What extension are you playing when you get to the F? I hope that made sense...

  • @Grifff0 Well Cmi pentatonic or F mixolydian or F lydian-dominant,Vic.

  • great - I still cant play to those changes - can stay i g - but when the 2-s come i get lost

  • @RDblues47 Keep going, don't loose faith, practice your arpeggios, chords, scales and know how how to find them on the fretboard that's crucial, keep rehearsing every day,Vic.

  • You do have fun don't you. Nice.

  • @notatooma222 No use playing if you ain't got fun, Jazz is serious fun,Vic.

  • Where can I get the backing track for this?

  • @samhealy93 If you invest in a B.I.B. (band in a box) program you can create your own backing tracks,Vic.

  • was that a diminished chord at the end?

  • JAZZ TEMBR COOL

  • @Dvareckas Thanks a lot Dave, you're a good musician.

  • victor you are the best

  • @micheleapicella2 Thanks man, I'm just a hard working musician,the pleasure is mine,Vic.

  • Nice brother, i play this ( your Youtube song ) often when using my computer, sweet!!

  • @manixman333 Great brother, always play something that has some good essence, better than noodling around,Vic.

  • I can't watch your video because i believe the embedding is disabled, is there any other way i can I can watch it?

  • Stonecoldadam91, when you're logged in YT you can see all my Videos, the embedding is disabled because the authors-right organization is fining people who have more than 30 Vids with embedding on.Besides if embedding is on the whole world will have Victor on their private sites, that's making things a little too easy, don't you think?Vic.

  • Vic, Nice playing man. When I first saw this I thought you were Vic Juris. Your not, but you sound good even without a last name.

  • @singursoul7 thanks,yeah even Shakespeare said it back then, what's in a name,lol,greets Vic.

  • Love your playing, Vic!

  • @agatabornin89 thank you hope you keep swinging along,Vic.

  • nice work. Wes is a big influence.

  • Hi Vic, excelent performance, hope u go on during 2010 !

  • @ filipev, thanks, when you got this far with music, how can one stop, Music= life, great 2010,Vic.

  • Hi Vic,,, nice playing,, you can tell you enjoy the art,,, Whose backing tracks are you using,,, they are pretty cool

  • Thanks dragginleftnut, I do enjoy playing (improvising a lot) I make my own backingtracks in the newest B.I.B(band in a box). version, a good investment, greets Vic.

  • Vic That was cool !! It was fun watching how you play the chords and the licks..

  • Thanks Ken for checking out my version, appreciate that, Vic.

  • Vic It was cool seeing the differences of how you played the licks and runs and chords from how I played them.. Thank YOU ..!! : )

  • Nice touch Vic!

  • hey cud you please tell me what scale you soloin with is it g minor melodic

  • Hi wrestle, it's like asking a doctor how he does his operation in a minute, while he's been studying for years. there are many chords that modulate here, look up the chords and analyze. Mi7=dorian 7=mixolydian and altered here and there, check out my lessons on my channel for basic chord-scale relations, greets Vic.

  • Thats amazing work you got going on there buddy im a double bassist so i know the bass line for this if you werent so far away id jam with you! :)

  • Thanks Hoodie, if you ever come to europe you visit and we'll organize something, greetings from Vic (glad you enjoyed).

  • Love this tune, nice job!!! :) Very enjoyable listen.

  • Thanks Pudsy, I'm glad you liked it greets Vic.

  • great technique. you're very fluid in your picking and have achieved great tone, too. congratulations.

  • Thanks dsturges89, Hard work gets the job done, greets Vic.

  • WES MONTGOMERY GENIUS

    Vic super !!!

  • Thanks Dvareckas,Wes is and will always be a genius, this ain't no throw away Stuff, it will be around for a long time to come, that's the thing with REAL Music. greets Vic.

  • nice!what kind of guitar is that one?

  • Thanks therg, it's a GB-20 (taken out of production) glad I owe one, bought in affordable times,Vic.

  • oww wouw! i bought the gb 10 couble of weeks ago! im very happy with it!!!

  • can i get a transcription of this?

  • Hi massey.the transcription is in my head,it's the world of Jazz which means: spontanius improvisation, the lead part you can find in every good Realbook,Vic.

  • You sound great man,

    Thanx

  • Thanks this was no shredding but just nice warm notes, that's me, johhny

  • lovely

  • yeah i tried to earn some coin by writing songs for peoples poems on a poetry website but the mistake i made was doing the first song for free. you can ask YT for some money for the advertising they place in multiples on your channel pages.

  • i hear ya my friend, i lived in amsterdam for 10 years then they made playing music illigal by imposing way too many rules and regs on club and bar owners with expensive music liscences etc etc etc... they killed the life in Amsterdam, all the foreign musicians and artists i know moved, i moved to Paris which is a little better but still fucked. too many police too much tax, too much control. I say we the musicians must take the music back, Refuse and Resist.

  • robasoar, true what you're saying, governments are kings in helping culture down the drain. But people are no less, I mean when I ask a fair compensation for arrangements that I made from many pop-tunes here on the Tube, nobody's willing to pay, as long as you're a free entertaining machine all's Cool, you're top of the FREE bill, greets Vic.

  • heel goed lekker bitterballen, your Queen is evil, what happened with the black car that crashed in Apeldoorn on Queens day ? but seriously.. nice playing

  • Thanks robasoar, it's no joke brother, it's pure extreme madness in a individualistic world in which there's little inter-human contact left, if this continues you won't see me around anymore, greets Vic.

  • hey vic: great performance! i know i have some balls asking for more from a free lesson, but can you post in HQ so we can see your fingers better? i'd also *love* it if you did more theory/improv stuff as with your ii-V-I viddys a few weeks back. specifically your approach to chord melody AND your ideas on arps, scales & modes (close connection too) as they apply to the harmonic structure of a chart. (yes, i'm greedy) NYC still loves jazz!

  • Hi ambilevous, right now I'm very busy with my own website and there will also be lessons(quality and in depth) but those will have to be paid for, there is an ending on me being Santa Claus on YT without compensation, the normal playing will continue in HD on YT(you guys are getting spoiled) Greets Vic.

  • fair enough santa vic. let us know when the site is up & running. if the subscription fees are fair, you might just have another student/customer.

PS - can't believe i'm asking this, but are you on twitter?

  • Ambilevous, the fees will certainly be fair, I know you guys are poor students or poor workers just like me,ha ha. Man me on twitter?, these Site's are Raising like mushrooms from the earth,no man,got my hands full with all YT activities with about 30 mails a day, before you know I'll go insane, greets Vic.

  • Best performance of a Wes Montgomery song I've ever heard in my entire life!

  • Thanks for the compliment Chicago, Wes is and will always be an incredible source of inspiration even in these times we should credit the guys that made Jazz what it is, Greets Vic.

  • You're the best and different from the rest! How long have you been playing and can you play a Gibson "Les Paul" much less a Gibson "B.B. King" Lucille guitar?

  • Thanks Chicago, I'm a Jazz-Blues-fingerstyle guitarist, and playing a long time, think since the age of 13 and I own a Epiphone Rivera which is simular to B.B.'s Gibson 335. Yes I can play all those guitars, greets Vic.

  • I loved it! Wes Montgomery is one of my favorites at this time!

    Great video!

  • Hi Stipe, let's shake hands Buddy, that guy is unbeatable in feeling and timing, a great inspiration till my dying day, greets Vic.

  • It swings so nice!

    A great tribute to Wes!

  • Thanks Amund,you're welcome,greets Vic.

  • Do you just plug the chord changes into band and box and go or do you fiddle around with the options and if so how?

  • Hi Zapp.. I don't understand your question, my so called fiddling is serious, well thought Improvisation not an overnight's thing. if I have to explain I'll be writing till tomorow,LOL,greets Vic.

  • Na man I mean you are using band in the box. When you use band in the box do you just plug the chords into the bars and press play or do you change around how the instruments are comping or arrange little things ya know?

  • Now I get it Zapp... I might change a few things, like accents etc, but mostly it's quite straight forward, playing over what the program has to offer mostly, greetings Vic.

  • superrrrrr ! love your tone ~

  • Joep, thanks man,I'll be visiting you soon, check what you've doing recently, greets Vic.

  • Great rendition, WM is one of my biggest influences.

  • Thanks sixstrings, you bet your life, one of the best still in 2009.greets Vic.

  • if i could play like that i`d be playing 6 lounge acts a night all up and down the vegas strip and be happy as a clam

  • ¡Magnífico, Victor! Me gustan sobre todo sus octavas realizadas en el más puro estilo de West Montgomery.

  • Gracias, me gusta tu version de "Blues for Alice" bonita improvisation,Saludo's Vic.

  • This is Fantastic Vic! And look how you play so effortlessly. You have such depth and class, an enriched mind and soul, it shows in your music and how you present yourself. 1,000 stars* for this performance and for you!

    Rina

P.S. By the way, didn't know you had a cat LOL! A dog too? Does your family take care of them or do you?

  • Hi Rina, we only have Cats(2 from one nest, brother and sister) my son Robin chose them when he was 5, one because it was bold and daring and the other because it was shy and timide(ying-yang). We as a whole family take care of them. Thanks Rina also for your Musical taste, and depth to bring it forward, as you've noticed I'm interested in real Music no plastic stuff, Music as an Artform should never be mis-used for whatever purpose, hug, Vic.

  • Vic, I giggled when I read your comment about your cat vomiting, cuz you rarely talk about your personal life other than music and I thought "Hey, this guy has a Cat?! lol!". I'd love to hear more about your Zen practice someday, when we both have time. You're my mentor, Vic. :)

    Rina

  • The good players always make it look effortless. I would say that Jazzguts fits into the catergory.

  • wow i must say bravo

beautifully played and the improvisation was very sharp

    5 star

  • Thanks surfdude, glad you enjoyed, always welcome, greets Vic.

  • Clap clap clap clap.. I had to come back for another listen. Any chance you could do Wes Montgomery's "Road Song" for me?

  • Thanks footcandy,I might do that one in the future,it's a darn good tune, greets Vic.

  • Thanks, yeah Frank I thought I saw it in favorites, always fine that a Jazzlover digs my Stuff, always welcome man, just see they made the Vid screen larger nice,Vic.

  • Yeah, cause usually when i see a min 7 chord i automatically think the 11 chord and i'll play 11-V licks, same thing with dom7 chords i'll play 11-V licks. Is this a bad way of thinking or am i on my way to musical freedom?

  • Hi bald john, you're thinking is correct, there are many, many playing concepts in Jazz that all work very well once they're settled in your ears, you just have to have a steady studying routine to absorb them and make them your own,Greets Vic.

  • what do you mean by 11-V licks? :P

  • Clap clap clap clap clap! I loved it!

  • Thanks Candy I take a deep bow, Lol,greets Vic.

  • i have to ask and this might be a stupid question, but im still a beginner. When your playing over the Gmin7 are you thinking G dorian or G aeolian or a combination of both or none at all? Also, do you have any advice on learning how to improv smoothly over chord changes?

  • Hi John, I look at the surrounding in which chords are placed let's say an holistic approach, I know my traids well, for instance if the Gmi has a connection with C7 or Ami (F) then I know the mother-scale is Fmajor and the Gmi7 has to be treated as the second degree of F which is G dorian. Smooth improvisation comes with years of studying and understanding what notes work well over different types of chords,no instant solutions here, but years of trial and error,Greets Vic.

  • ye ,,very good guitar sound ,`cool

  • Thanks yuval, thought you would enjoy this one, just uploaded "Blue Bossa" tell me what you think, greets from Holland,Vic.

  • Gorgeous! I love your playing and the tone of your guitar. All the best.

  • Thanks Soulsistah100, also thanks for subscription, always hop over when you want to,most welcome, Greets Vic.

  • Hi Victor! this really sound like Wes !

    ciao

    Diego

  • Hi Diego, well I've been listening to this man a great part of my life,so something must brush off,all the best Vic.

  • I think that i always tell you the same but its true. Awesome TUNE! and that guitar is incredible too!

  • Hi Fanqueen, they don't produce these guitars anymore, but am I glad I bought one back in the olden days(eighties), one of the advantages of being old,LOL,greets Vic.

  • Haha

  • Love Wes, he was so smooth and cool, you seem to have mastered his sound. Saved to favs

  • Thanks headzepp, Wes was a terrific inspiration for me,up to this day, glad you enjoyed, greets Vic.

  • thank you Vic, this music uplifted and inspired me.

  • Thanks Riddimworks, and such positive comments does the same to me,greets Vic.

  • As usual, your taste and skill show through. Had a nice gig again Friday. Again those crazy red necks dug some jazz we through at them. Strange world out there Vic. Keep em coming brother.

  • Hi Zinnington, keep sneeking in your Jazz man cause the new generation wont even know the meaning in a few years, thanks for your great comment, greets Vic.

  • Vic, another monster man! Love the phrasing and tone..Sounds like an old Riverside Wes recording to me!!

Keep 'em coming my friend. Beautiful.

    Tommy

  • Thanks Tommy, glad you checked this one out, those old Wes recordings still unmatched in playing even nowadays, Wes was ahead of his time, even left George Benson flabbergasted, glad you enjoyed man, greets Vic.

  • Outstanding Victor, and looks like great fun! Such an incredibly mellow tone from your guitar. Are you going direct in, or dropping a mic in front of your amp? 5***** -Derek

  • Thanks, Anchorite, it's direct in for me, a little EQ usage and balancing, that's it,nothing complicated except playing,LOL,greets Vic.

  • He, he, great job again, Vic! Swingin' and bluesy, very interesting harmonization near the end... which comes all too soon!!!!!! 5***** Greetz, Jogi

  • Thanks Jogi,I've received your CD and I'm really enjoying it,I'll soon give you a personal response, a very nice live registration indeed, with great public response, thanks so much for sending it, till very soon Vic.

  • Really Great!

  • Thanks morshlook,you're welcome,greets Vic.

  • Great take on it. I've noticed some new lines you weren't wont to trying before. Very nice.

And that's one of my favourite pieces by Wes. I play it regularly on gigs. Ever noticed it's based on the changes of Summertime?

  • Thanks Pablo, well here I didn't do much preparation,of course I know the changes, just briefly jammed and after that recorded, it kinda came out fresh for myself like a surprise here and there,I played on metronome 190,and I've heard Wes playing it round 250. Well I know Summertime(original) and guess Wes did some re-harmonization and made an interesting progression out of it, I didn't know that, thanks for the knowledge, great comment, greets Vic.

  • It's a very interesting re-harmonisation, isn't it? Wes made it into a completely new thing in which the original tune is hardly 'visible'. I've learnt a lot from it. In particular how free we can actually be in jazz.

  • Yes Pablo, I have got a book from the Dutch master Jazz guitarist"Wim Overgaauw" (RIP),he talked about alternative harmonizations, sometimes it's so free that you can not grasp the logic in the progressions anymore compared with the original, interesting subject, this could last hours, greets Vic.

  • You are still "da man"!!!!!

  • Thanks, jazzconnoisseur,I really enjoyed playing this one, greets Vic(and glad you did).

  • Pure & simple artistry. Can't find any other word to qualify this masterpiece. The real Victor is all coming out now!

  • Thanks Sunny, more to come soon Jazz lover, great comment, simple and pure, lol greets Vic.

  • Catch up time! What a great tune and playing, Vic! Wes is one of my all time favorites. My first Wes' music was a Blue Note 2-record set of him and his brothers Buddy and Monk (The Mastersounds) when I was in my teens. Still one of my favorite record sets till this day. I've since bought other records and CDs of Wes' music. You've done the master's work very well! Yes, indeedy!!! 8-)

  • Hi brother Scott, glad you commented on this one,man I remember starting at "Sweelinck-conservatory" Amsterdam and this world was totally new, I heard this guy and my mouth fell open, what Artistry, from that moment I was determined to plunge into the Jazz-lake and find out to certain extent what these incredible musicians where doing,I'm glad I've succeeded a little on this interesting path.great comment Scott, greets Vic.

  • excellent i love that song

  • Hi Slippereal, that's a nice statement,thank you,Vic.

  • Très belle Impro Superbe !!

  • Thankls lapon77, merci beaucoup mon ami.Vic.

  • Victor,I just went and watched my first Wes Montgomery vid, He is very good and I can see the similarities. You dear friend are truly as great ...possibly better and I am sure you will gain in even more depth through the years.

The wonderful soothing sounds as well as that lovely smile will make this another one I will watch many times. Your enthusiasm is very much evident and contagious.

    be well ...... tender hugs...m.

  • Thanks so much Margaret,it's great you're comparing me to Wes but for now I'm glad I can stand in his Shadow and learn from him, there's much truth in your remarks, my aim is certainly to grow as a musician (also as a human being), there isn't a day that I don't play, I'm totally in love with Music, always hearing all these sounds in my head. When you truly "love" your enthusiasm will always show, honored you took this one to your favorites, very much appreciated, big hug for you,Vic.

  • Awesome, again...one of these days I got borrow some of your technique...this one is just right for that, short but sweet, greets!

  • Thanks Eddie, go ahead my friend, you got all Hendrix solo's (and own improvisations on his theme's) now a little Jazz studying can't do no harm, once you're in there it won't let you go, Greets Vic.

  • dont know a lot of JAZZ music but this moves me !!thanks Victor ......you are a jazz musician

  • Thanks Husky, well I cannot get a greater compliment,I'm popularizing this style and glad of that, because a new generation has to take over before it dies out and luckily it's happening, here in Holland there are some fine young Dutch Jazzers, greets Vic.

  • 5/5 that was awsome

  • Thanks, oufgihts, your stars are shining in my eyes man, just kidding, greets Vic.

  • World class playing, my friend!!

    5+++

    Best regards

    Martin

  • That's nice Martin hearing this from a very good player, you know I love you all for your support and attention, will be looking out for your new Stuff, greets Vic.

  • very nice indeed!

  • Thanks Snarfer, nice word, don't know what it means but sounds like a poisonous Mushroom of some kind, lol, greets Vic.

  • I've listen this song before from the album "Artistry of Wes Montgomery". It very complex chord progression! I can't get the correct lines over the progression although I reduce it speed. If you ever have Jim Kelly lesson, he put this chord progression into the lesson (and I still can't play it ^^). You're so amazing Vic, I'm jealous for your playing! Hope you can give your jazz lesson here, we will so appreciate!

  • Thanks Lanang my friend for your heart-warming comment, I've done a few Jazz(Blues) lessons here on the Tube that where highly appreciated and you probably mean do a lesson on this specific chord progression. Once I read in my Zen-book,one has to be a fast thinker and I've trained myself on this subject,it pays off in these Tunes, will think about your proposal,Greets Vic(thanks for your ears).

  • Sure I've looked for the lesson but diminished is too far for my ability... I just need lesson for dummies maybe :)

  • Hi Lanang there's also a more elementary lesson on the Tune "Broadway" you'll also find this lesson playlist: instruction-Video's greets Vic.

  • Wow,Tamara I think this so sweet of you ,I'm so caught up in giving music lessons and preparing new Stuff for the Tube, I didn't even pay attention to this(strange in a way) I'm flabbergasted by your lovely attention, a very big warm hug for you,I really appreciate this, Victor. :)

  • LOL, no problem at all my friend! Congratulations on the honours! Hope the new stuff for YouTube is going well, I look really forward to seeing it! Have a brilliant weekend, Love, Tamara xx

  • Hi Fred, don't do away with those Oldies cause you'll still hear fantastic licks on them. man that's a great compliment, I hope you're not comparing me to Wes though, enough trouble standing in his shadow, lol, thanks for dropping in and greets to Marlene,Vic.

  • glad to see you turned commenting back on so I could tell you "you rock!". Or in this case, "you swing!". I have Wes' recording of this and you do it justice indeed. Very nice.

  • Thanks Tony, glad you made that difference between rock and swing, though I have nothing against Rock. Thanks for your fine comment man, greets Vic.

  • Victor you never cease to amaze me and inspire me.

  • Thanks Frets200,my main objective is to keep amazing myself this has nothing to do with selfishness but keeping the fire burning inside, you understand what I mean, greetings Vic.

  • Dear Vic! I love Wes' music and this version from you is brilliant. I love the sound of that guitar! Ahhh ... wish I had it... sigh. Your musicallity shines!! Keep it shining!

Have you seen my Tequila anywhere?

    >Per-Olov
