what nice sound quality on that old Telefunken ! tube amp & large speakers did the trick i guess ? i can only wish for this sound on my one inch thick flatscreen , sigh:-(
There is always that "fight" who was first. During that TV show, Germany was annoucned as the third nation after the USA and Japan to have regular nationwide colour TV broadcasts. In Britain they dont like to hear that, however BBC 2 did not start its *regular* colour broadcasts until December 1967. Especially the Wimbledon broadcast was still experimental with just one camera. The regular broadcast in 405 lines was done seperately. Also many BBC 2 transmitters were still b/w only.
Would this television work if I brought it to the States and hooked it up to AT&T satellite and my Xbox 360? I would really like to add a classic PAL set to my collection.
@DAVEMC1000 If you Google "ntsc to pal converter", you'll see a bunch of them on Amazon for under $100. That will make this TV work where any old analog US TV would.
Very pretty television set. Beautiful attention to detail. Shame you cannot build them like that anymore. Excellent tape playback, I am impressed. I would sure like to watch the whole program! Thanks so much for posting!
First public color broadcast in Germany, nationwide distributed, live from West-Berlin via the old 170 km air link over the DDR!!!! Variété show during the 1967 Berlin radio and tv exhibition and fair. Great picture still now from the old magnetic registration tapes, ampex PAL color
The signal went from West-Berlin to the Hannover aerea via a 2GHz radio relais, long about 170 km non-stop as no ground intermediate stations were possible in the GDR, DDR.
This was a BEYOND horizon radio relais, broadcast power was far above the average for such connections.
West-Berlin (TV, radio, and telephone) was connected to the west through these beyond horizon connections, using permanent reflexion in the lower atmosphere.,
PAL system is the best system, but japanese Trinitron is best mask, PAL + TRINITRON is maximum quality mix. my first Tv was a Sony KV 2000 ET in 1976.
was not the first official PAL broadcast made by BBC 2 for the second week of the Wimbledon tennis championships? (this followed several weeks of test transmissions)
What is the source material for the demo please (tape)?
I assume it's German which is probably why it still exists. Unlike the poor old Beeb (BBC) which wiped many priceless and irreplaceable recordings )-:
The source is a tape recording from 1967. Most of the German television tapes of the 1960s and 1970s were erased after broadcasting. Only a few tapes of historical interest survived.
The BBC is working on a project to restore the color from b/w recordings on celluloid by extracting the colour subcarrier informations.
This show was a Eurovision show - it was partly relayed live in colour by BBC2 on 26th August 1967.BBC2 was the only channel outside Germany to show it in colour. 14 other European countries were broadcasting it too, but in b/w only, because transmitters had not been upgraded to colour.
It was broadcast in colour on Swedish Television. I think it was the first public Eurovision colour broadcast, and much writtten about. A tabloid had pictures of people who actually owned a set and could enjoy the privilege of watching the colours at home. Some of the less privileged watched through shop-windows. I watched it in b/w and imagined the colours, but had seen colour-television before – the PUB department store in Stockholm had sets on display.
It is a hybrid set with valves in the output circuits and transistors in the tuner, I.F. and chroma circuits. E.H.T. is stabilised by the shunt regulator PD500 which is the European 6BK4.
@raymondleeleggs Yes there is. At this time they build better Quality. Today you have cheap and crappy speakers in a Huge LCD TV. The radios too. I have a radio (1954) at work. Bass. :)
thinks were built to last then, unfortunately nowadays its a throwaway nation

Actually the video description is incorrect.
That was the date when PAL was launched in its native West Germany.
However, Britain started colour broadcasts over a month earlier using PAL - July 1st 1967, of Wimbledon tennis on BBC2 :)

Supergute Geräte. Allein das der Klang immer noch so gut ist. Respekt.
Die PALcolor Röhren waren damals das Maß der Dinge.

I love this set. Wood cabinet, vacuum tubes, delta picture tube... wonder if the stock one still have good emission!
zapkorte 2 years ago 3
These early Telefunken delta picture tubes are wellknown for their low emission. This tube is driven at the lower limit.

That's not quite true. There are actually quite a lot colour TV shows surviving from German TV from the 60s and 70s.
This is from "Gala der Schallplatte" - you can watch it completly on youtube... it was the 2nd live colour TV show.

@TeslaMaster The BBC has succeeded in this project. I saw a Dads Army restoration, and it's great.

She's got a great voice; at the end of each verse, she starts to sound a little like Darline Love. Nice version of Telstar too.

SVT-Play has clips from the preparations for the first Swedish nation-wide live colour broadcast on 17 August 1967.

Back when the Telefunken name meant high quality gear and wasn't applied to the cheapest of the cheap Chinese imports like today.
Is this set solid state or valve/tube electronics?
