Ok.....correct me if Im wrong. I'm an all star cheerleader so my knowledge of power tumbling form is pretty much restricted to Kiara Knowlin and cheer form. But. Was the american tumblers roundoff set *really* wide and it looked like his hands in it were waaaaay forward. Do I sound like a stupid know-nothing cheerleader or was that accidental?
All this talk of comparing tumblers with gymnasts is futile - gymnasts do NOT compete on this type of surface! hence no one seeing them tumble out of a double back - anyone think this would be possible on tumbling mats of the 1960'??? no dont think so.....
@onetrupairing - im no expert BUT I think power tumbling is done on rod floors.......if you look at the floor you can see the amount of spring is more than a gymnastics floor area!
At the end of the day its not only skill who decides who wins, its also who´s got the "strongest stomach" in other words who can handle stress and nervousness best!
well we last longer in trampoline and tumbling than they do in artistic. theres actually a 60+ year old man that still trains trampoline. i mean of course hes not great but he can still do the sport
well, they land on very hard floor, so their bones get compressed a bit each time, if you get what i mean. and well, you can't keep growing forever, so when they're stunted it's hard to keep growing :P
I know from personal experience that they get stunted, my entire family is 5' 10'' or taller and I was told when I was very young that there was a good chance I would be about 6' and if you look at me know you would laugh about that comment. I am only 5'4'' but I am as strong as an ox!
It's true that most gymnasts are short but not because they get stunted. This shit doesn't even happen. it's because short people are better than tall at doing gymnastics. :P
Agreed. But, as most of the truly elite gymnasts have been training since they were small children, who could who would keep growing and who wouldn't? Who would decide that this kid should keep going 'cause he'll be a short man, and this kid won't, 'cause he'll just mess it up with his height? And I also agree with one of the below comments, saying that it's pretty much about who can handle stress and nervousness best.
@PithikiTricks any extreme and consistent workout regime with little to no break periods will stunt a childs growth. The most damaging aspect being the delayed or forced start puberty.
BUt u can... my freind rachel was a national level gymnast and shes now a national level tumbler... and this other girl at my gym used to be an amazing gymnast and she placed like 7th or 8th at worlds for tumbling SO U CAN
hey what that person said about a gymnast not automatically being a good tumbler isnt true... i was a gymnast and stopped when i was twelve i only months ago returned to the sport (im 18) and am Provincial level 3
That's exactly what I said. That being a gymnast first gives you a very good base to start on. But it does not automatically make you a great tumbler. I'm sure you're a good tumbler, and i don't doubt you're benefiting greatly from your gymnastics background, but you're provincial level, that doesn't exactly mean "great". the debate was because someone said an ex-gymnast could easily be world champion in tumbling if he wanted. thanks for making my point.
@robergej I think you mean artisitc gymnastics first though. Power tumbling is a form of gymnastics just like artistic, rythmic... etc And your right I was an artistic gymnast for 4 years then switched to power tumbling. I'm on the edge of elite
I have seen several international elite gymnast try to make the transition to power tumbling. Still haven't seen it done successfully yet. I am sure it can be done but i think it is harder than most think.
It's the first time that I realized that there's such a sport. It's quite interesting. What will happen if a world-class gymnist switch to tumbling? Will he/she claim the title with ease after some short term training?
what makes you think that gymnasts are so much better then tumblers? ive never seen a gymnast tumble out of a double. yes the sports are related but no a gymnast would not automatically be a great tumbler.
i beg to differ. If you were to take the top gymnasts in the world. I.E.: Yang Wei, Paul Hamm, Johnathan Horton, Flavius Koczi, Marian Dragulescu, Justin Spring to name a few, i bet you that would dominate power tumbling with some ease. Of course they would have to train some, but have you seen their difficulty on floor and vault and such. I think they could easily become world-class power tumblers. Im not knocking the sport though!
besides, i've done a little power tumbling in my day and do you know how springy that floor is. i found myself doing a full-in not even trying!! LOL!!
I dont doubt that they would be good, they might even indeed dominate. But it's not for sure, and I don't think that they have an advantage over the world's top tumblers who've been training in tumbling for years. Yeah they would probably not have to train that much to be already at a world level, but they dont have super powers, and wouldn't necessarily surpass the guys that have been training in tumbling for 15+ years.
I said that they use a rod floor. I train gymnast full time, I understand gymnastics equipment pretty well. I have set up two gyms from the floor up. I am not stupid; I do this for a living.
But dont many of the tumblers carry a gymnast background. either way, gymnast fasism is lame, do i must admit variation conditoning makest a god platform for further progress
Artistic gymnast do not have enough length on the floor to tumble out of a double, so there would be no point in training them to tumble out of a double. (Just to let you know I train competitive gymnast)
