  • I first heard this song on a TheHill88 video 4 years ago, ever since, it has been my "wake up song". Try this; the next time you find it hard to get up on a sunny day, listen to this, look out the window and smile, better than coffee =]. I hadn't heard of Silverchair before this, but I like it.

  • This song pops into me head every once in awhile, and it's good. But the guy singing pisses me off, because you know he's just looking gay and singing in a feminine voice because he's trying to appeal to a wider audience to make more money

  • silverchair ...??? wtf??

  • This new shit is terrible! What happened to the Silverchair of the Frogstomp and Freak Show era? I mean...come on. If you're going to completely change your genre of music, at least do us the favor of changing the name of the band for Christ sake!

  • This is what life is about people. When your young you take the most out of society and derail it with out thought or consequence, but when you get older life changes you, makes you grow and see life's true art form and put it into perspective in your life just like these guys. Man, have they come a long ways from 16. Great positive outlook guys. Loved the song when it was first released.

  • As I always say..Too legit to quit. :D

  • facial hair makes him looks less androgynous, hotter indeed

  • i always thought this song was about cocaine

  • I never realised but i think Daniel Johns either consciously or subconsciously references Tim Finn's song "Not even close" in this. They both say "walking in a straight line" and the melody they sing has some similarities

  • @antisteroidjunky dont be a fool, diversity is important, what are you a clone? we are all unique for a reason

  • Daniel Johns should've been called for the role of the new Spatacus.

  • اغنية جميلة جدا شكرا

    Very beautiful song thanks

  • i like heavy metal a lot. i but silver chair as one of my fav band of all time.

  • Daniel Johns has said numerous times that the stuff from the first 2 albums was pretty much a combination of their influences at that time (such as Deep Purple, Helmut, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam) plus what the corporate suits wanted. You seriously can't look @ what a bunch of 16 year olds did and expect them to continue to make that kind of music, EVERYONE evolves.

  • @waxoftriple9 i'm fine with people enjoying this, they were still "talented" song writers even if it was horribly mainstream and lost what I liked about the earlier albums, but I dont like people calling it evolution. If it's evolution to trade out cool alternative rock/grunge for poppy barbie slumber party mix-tape material then I hope no one else catches on.

  • @HAYDS510 They didn't trade out shit, they just weren't into making that kind of music anymore because they started listening to other music. Listening to the follow up to Frostomp and how experimental it was, they slowly faded from that "grunge/alt" sound because it wasn't natural to them. Their first 2 albums have so many stolen riffs on there as it is, I'd rather hear some original sounds than them ripping off Mad Season.

  • Man what the hell!! Remember when silverchair was good like frogstomp? This shit is horrible!!

  • How bout you fucks who are constantly arguing on the YouTube comments just shut the hell up and enjoy the music. If you don't like the song that's fine. Whatever your taste is.

  • @joejoerg agreed.

  • this is about a 100% more awesome than the official version. (thanks especially for taking out the majority of whatever the hell that dance was that daniel did 3 min in).

  • daniel encompasses all that my generation lost. he re-built a broken bridge to a generation unscathed by society's remorse,, all that he is, we could not become

  • Daniel has the most awesome green eyes! like the lyrics to this song too

  • These guys make Boy George look like Mickey Rourke.

  • When I was a young girl, I had a crush on a cute Daniel teenager, Now I'm a woman and I have a crush for thissexy grown up man version of Daniel lol Some things never change ..some doe hihi

  • that mofo is runnin in a straight line

  • this songs great there pretty awsome if they can go from grunge rock to this and back come on people how many bands can pull this off not many i think its great as long as the music is awsome it works for me woooooo

  • If I still felt the same that I did at 14, I'd be listening to Korn and thinking JNCO jeans were cool. Sometimes you grow up, and you aren't the same person you were when you were a kid.

  • silverbest!!! ;)

  • Reckon hes a bisexual like all other good rockers... e.g. anthony kiedis, that girly boy from that band, liberachi and Aldous Snow?

  • i like it

  • too big coments

  • B-cause someone commented I came back and tried to listen to this garbage again and its still crap-to me. My opinion. Same people who love this will hate what I like. So what. Im aware of that. Don't waste your time on defending them, they don't pay your bills-in fact, you probably pay theirs so let them defend themselves!

Way to gay for me. But hey, thats just me.

  • @MDC01FLY The fact that u you're basing your reason for not liking this track on a premise that Daniel Johns is or might be gay just shows how much of a fool YOU are-you can't be much of a music fan if that's how you judge a song.Going by that logic i assume Queen,Faith No More and hundreds of other bands are DEF way too "gay" for you too then? This isn't exactly my favourite silverchair track either (although i still think it's a good song)but it has nothing to do with johns' fasion sense

  • What a Great Song !! Great for showing 10 year olds the EVIL of Heroin. I applaude you Daniel for your courage. AND I have always Loved the Chair

  • @christophermau1962 Heroin? Unless you're just taking the piss, this song has nothing to do with heroin- neither does anyone in the band

  • Don't hate Silverchair because of their change in music style. I've listened to them since I was 14. I'm 29 now and listen to really really heavy metal. I still think they are an awesome band.

  • @Undeworld667 well, we have the same silverchair listening time and i don´t hate the new sound, i just fail to recognize them. this sounds like a different band... and that kills the "chairness" in me. dan doesn´t sound the same i miss the angst that moved him. he´s a good boy now, if you know what i mean.

i know he´s gone through a lot in life and i´m glad he lived to tell the tale, but this is not silverchair.

  • @Undeworld667 greatest statement ever, i feel the same , whatching them evolve into what they are now was kinda strange ,but when i actually opened up my mind to it , i loved it more than frogstomp and freak, im gonna have to say diorama is one of the greatest albums ever, i listened to it a million times, neon ballroom , young modern isnt bad by any means either

  • @Undeworld667 its not just their music style to hate, its their gayer then aids persona that EVERYONE who was a fan can't fuckin believe, what the fuck happened to these guys! get off the E man this shit really is terrible, you and all 18 idiots that think yer right

  • @Undeworld667

So does Australia, with every album going number 1.

  • Is the singer gay or something? I get the feeling he's a queer now. Watching other videos, I think the drummer isn't happy with this direction-and I just learned of their break up cause Im not fan-just hip on current affair and God, I can see why. This just stinks so bad..

  • @MDC01FLY if you're not a fan why did you watch and take the time to comment on this video? Daniel has always been in touch with his feminine side, even when he was writing heavier music- and i bet you've never nailed a bird as hot as Natalie Imbruglia like he was for years :-)

  • @turdonmylips Why did I take time to comment? Because on YT, under the videos, there's these places where you can leave comments if you'd like-and I did because I wanted to leave my opinion. Comments don't have to be positive or negative. Its not just for people who 'like' the video or artist. It can be for people who expected something good or interesting then found turd-on-their-lips during the video and now commented how bad it is.

The feminine part u said was just weird man...

  • @MDC01FLY Haha-anyone as homophobic as you has to be gay,it seems to be on your mind a lot...seriously mate,i think it's time you told your parents you take it up the poopshoot. By the way, that "turd on my lips" pun was gold man, you'll have them rolling in the aisles...as will Mike Patton who coined that phrase. I ask the question again- have you ever nailed a bird as hot as Natalie Embruglia like daniel has? I'm guessing the answer is no, you're a virgin and you wished Daniel Johns WAS gay

  • @turdonmylips No, Im not gay, but when someone is and its obvious Ill question it, thats all. And here you go again with dating Natalie E, and that proves what? Iv been with lots of hot women, but they're not famous, so I guess that doesn't count? Your ignorant as hell. You must be 12 or 22 with a mind of a 12 yo. And what the hell do you care if Im a virgin or not? LOL I don't wish Daniel was gay, why would I? Your the one infatuated with another male you stupid fool! And you're calling me gay?

  • @MDC01FLY Im ignorant?Well that's irony on a base level, but you can still get a laugh out of it!Firstly,he is not gay-that's a fact. He was MARRIED to Natalie Imbruglia for years and he is currently dating Loise Van De Vorst. There is a difference between someone being gay and someone who doen't look/act mucho and alpha male all the time-that was my whole point about you idiot. I Dont care how many "hot women" you've been with (which im sure you have,no need to get all defensive) :-)

  • justin silverlake

  • @MrBulletrain1 haha, YEA, only not as good as Justing-not that IM a fan of Justin, but the boy can sing and that song Dick in a Box, thats a hit forever..lol

  • I like there old music back in the 90's but change is good too. I am not a big fan of this song, but it is decent =)

  • damn i missed this song

  • This is like Coldplay with less posing and more balls.

  • @termsofusepolice Coldplay and Silverchair are both great bands. It's true that both of them are evolving, and some people don't like some of their new songs. But these are complicated, talented artists with lots of different things inside them. I guess we have to accept them all. Take what we like, and leave the rest. :)

  • I'm all for a band expanding their musical horizons and progressing....but does Johns have to look so gay?? :/

  • @SamAndrew27 they broke up becuase of your comment. its all your fault!

  • @SamAndrew27 why do you care??

  • when they were teens they were rebellious and more into a different cause now they've matured so you all should as well

  • R.I.P Silverchair

  • their music changed in a completely different way... sorry, but i think they had lost their message....

  • @blueplayhupe Yes, I see your point. We should all stay depressed, suicidal, miserable and unhappy. Always living in the past, totaly vapid of hope. I see...your point. Im going to go out buy a shot gun and blow my head off like Kurt so I can be cool like him.

  • @EatYourChimp

No this is not my point. It's not that everyone should be depressed, suicidal or unhappy. We should take the life more seriosly. There's so much wrong in this world and in past silverchair, nirvana, and so on, got the message to think about the ways we go, wich aren't right and to change for good.

  • Nice try this isn't an edit.

  • A friend told me that I have to listen to this song.... so I was really surprised with that. I have stayed with the imagen in 90s but now silverchair is really different. Everyone knows. To be honest, I love this song..In my opnion They have made a lot of changes because they want to make a lot of experiments with their music . That's ok !

  • How the Fuck did Silver Chair go from Frog Stomp to this shit? Please Explain.

  • @Roxy4217 I dont think you get what music is. Music is only relative to the artist singing it, a true artist at least.

what does The Sex Pistols, Blink 182, Greenday, Avril Lavigne, SilverChair and lots of other artists have in common?

they grow and mature, the sex pistols lost their anarchy, and also the brooding of these other bands. its only an experience. If you listen to the same music you were listening to 10 years ago, then you havent learned anything in life. thats a fact.

  • @Roxy4217 they grow and their music grows with them, although i love their old stuff, im glad that this band found its peace. its a lot different but its still great. if they continued to sing what they used to, what do you think would happen to them? most likely would end up like Kurt Cobain, which daniel johns have always been compared with.

if you want some depressive music, find some other band that has 17 year olds with teen angst.

  • @missionpupa Don't mean to be rude there mate but sorry for having a fucken opinion bassed on my own individual taste. Maybe I should I get you on FB so in the future if I feal I want to express an opinion I run it buy you first.

  • @Roxy4217 I also come to realise that your opinion of maturity is making sure people agree with your fucking world of thinking. I think you need to mature and allow people to have there own opinion.

  • @Roxy4217 well, that makes 2 of us having our own opinion doesnt it. In my defense, you did ask.

  • Admittedly SIlverchair is still a great band, but I think they have abandoned what made them great in the first place.

  • Is this Silverchair or George Michael?

  • this is shit.

  • The new version of Silverchair is different. Definitely if you were used to the old Silverchair stuff, this would be a bit shocking. I think the funniest thing about watching this video is looking at the rest of the band other than Daniel. They all look like they showed up ready to rock, lol. Drummer with the hardcore long hair and wife beater on and tat's. Than Daniel unleashes Michael Bolten style music on em, hahahha. It's decent pop music though.

  • WTF!!!! how do they go from sounding like Nirvana to Elton John? Fuck you silverchair

  • @kinnypj going from sounding like Nirvana to Elton John is a mass improvement...

  • @StaySafeTonight I'd have to say from Nirvana to George Michael.

  • One of the finest songs ever written. Someone tell Katie Perry and Rihanna; This is called music.

  • So.. He's trying to say that he's not gay..

  • and daniel johns is looking like someone who would pick you up in a gay bar and then tell you to soak your hand in crisco and fist him...and he'd be so loose you'd wonder if you ever needed lube in the first place

  • Great band

  • Is that a Joke?

Don´t take Drugs Kids...see what could happen...

  • These songs speak to a different type of person. Basically the fans that have grown along with them and aren't sitting in a trailer drinking their 40th beer of the night with no job to go to in the morning. Their progression from freak to neon ballroom was when they started making real music. The grunge stuff was just corporate bullshit. You can feel the emotion of these songs much more than freak and frogstomp.

  • @poopyscoopy5

I disagree. Each album was from the heart just reflecting the different times and emotions that they were feeling. i enjoy all of their albums as it shows the progression they have made through life. By they it mainly means Daniel johns

  • Over the years Silverchair have grown up. They are no longer 15 years old.Simple as that.Maybe you have grown up as well ? I hope for your sake your not 30 or so with the mind of a 15 year old.

  • I swear, there is a version of this song that had less of a girly singer... Their lead singer is good and all, but he WAS better than this.

  • just miss their Grunge days..

  • I agree with the comments above. I am also 27 years old and have loved Silverchair since I was about 15 or so. I loved the old school stuff but never changed my opinion as they were growing as a band.... I live in NS Canada and I fear I will never get to see them perform live.... they are my favorite band of all times.

  • not in nature

  • Im gonna go listen to sumtin off frog stomp, Ciao

  • There is no energy and nothing good in this song. They say that they changed and so their songs, but i think they are losing a lot playing like this.

  • @Nephilimization oh and if ya cant see that coldplay are a great band that write songs from the heart about something that means somethin to them then you havent a clue what your talkin about mate ...

  • @Nephilimization dude how'd you even find my comment ? can't remmeber how long it ws since i commented this :) i agree with some parts of what you said but saying " you are fucking wrong " is a bit thick everyone is entitled to their own opinion and its not true everyone has a "bad taste in music" i think people like what they like ,but people over the years just lost the brain capacity to actually listen to a song properly :) ....

  • I love Silverchair, I love Daniel Johns, and I love that he got through everything happy and healthy.

  • I've always loved Silverchair. This is a GREAT song. I went out and bought the CD the second I knew about it...and I don't buy CDs anymore! The rest of the album grows on you if you give it a chance.

  • According to my brother, when he was in Oz quite a few years ago, he came across this band and the video featured a wheelchair race across a desert. Can anyone let me know what the song was so that I can find it for him. Thank you.

  • According to my brother, when he was in Oz quite a few years ago, he came across this band and the video featured a wheelchair race across a desert. Can anyone let me know what the song was so that I can find it for him. Thank you.

  • EHAHAEHAHAEHHEAHE this is fucking bad. I remember i loved their singles when they had their 15 minutes in the 90's.....now look at them. they're like nirvana and coldplay gone wrong.

  • @hippoloops Someone doesn't like growth.

  • @ZeoVGM it's not that, it's just change for the worst. this happens a lot to good artists and musicians. they sell out to a label and fail to flourish due to their managers trying to direct their music.

    THEY SUCK NOW

  • @hippoloops "Change for the worst" is an opinion. Whatever, I won't argue that. But you pulling out the "THEY SOLD OUT MANNNN. MANAGERS DIRECTING THEIR MUSIC" crap is just ridiculous. Factually incorrect. This is the music they WANTED to make. All you have to do is see their passion live or read interviews with them to know it. You not liking it is fine but don't pull the "I don't like the new stuff, so they sold out" crap.

  • @hippoloops actually, silverchair left their, label, completely financed this record themselves, and made the music they wanted.

  • The tittles literal, isn't it?

  • Young Modern kicks ass. So does Frogstomp. Just thought I'd come around and point out the obvious.

  • OMG, I just found out that this song is their song! I've been their big fan since I was in junior high school, I'm 24 now. Their songs just like my soundtrack through my dark hurtful teenage phases. A bit disappoint to be honest, damn I wish I never see this vid and their changes, cause it ruin my memories :( But I'm glad Johns had changed, i suppose deep down he's much more better than old time.

  • I think i like them better when they were younger they were all hot now they aren't even good looking any more =(

  • Staying true to yourself

  • No wonder he had an eating disorder when he was younger, he saw this video in a premonition and couldn't stop throwing up. This was the band that did Ana's Song? wtf.

  • holy SHIT why does he look like Justin Timberlake now? AAHAHAHAHA OMG!!! He went from being a 16 year old, questionable homosexual with a easting disorder, to this justin timberlake wannabe fag, Wow, talk about going the wrong way.

  • @xxjephxx he looks more like george michael....... if i was him , i'd be getting so much pussy because girls get their panty's wet just from being with him in the same room. i think he's in the closet.....has he come out yet? i miss frogstomp and highschool...... forever 90's !!!!!!

  • Really?

  • In life you either eventually at least partially sell out or you die. Watch SLC Punk to get the gist of it. I'm the same age as Daniel Johns and I have done my share of selling out. You will eventually too.

  • ofgs, there's nothing hateful in that - you put that into it!

  • pause on 3:06 is a garunteed laugh

  • WTF,haha

  • Is that an Italia guitar he is playing? I'm pretty sure it is..

  • ...certainly Daniel Johns is looking gayer as he gets older

  • @Rolmarsden Stop with that hateful retoric, unless your throat wants to meet with a red hot switchblade in the middle of the night..

  • at least they look better than before lol:)

  • im sorry if I offend but this shit sucks I realize people grow old and there styles change but this is what I consider sellout music

  • who would want a band who just did the same old thing every album? silver chair started as young metalish and matured to this. i dont think this is crap, i just enjoy it for being a good song, i love the old stuff as well, if your mind cant grow and adapt and enjoy this for what it is. then thats your problem. great aussie band. bridged the generation gap. like to see what the haters did with there lives.....nothing like silverchair thats for sure.

  • @KaidenOZ look no offence or anything but they turned from protesting against the music industry and politics to "walking in straight lines" and something about "those theiving birds" Honestly, I love their new stuff as well but their older songs simply cannot compare, they were so much more awesome, now sad to say they sold out.

  • @DimiRoger94 what ever happened to just enjoying music and embracing the song.

  • @speccwolf it died with the bands credibility when we started questioning the lead singers sexuality. Seriously in his older songs he looks more manly than justn bieber AND he was younger than him. Now he looks like he spends too much time in the local strip joint

  • @KaidenOZ "changed" to this. not "matured". perhaps they wanted to express something different at that age, but it doesn't make mellowing out a matter of maturing. Kurt Cobain as long as he lived didn't start penning soft rock. infact the last album they released he went back to the raw sound they started with, to avoid the same sellout crowd they attracted with nevermind.

  • @HAYDS510 "Kurt Cobain as long as he lived didn't start penning soft rock"

No? Did you know that right before he died, Kurt had been listening to a lot of softer music (specifically REM's mellow Automatic For the People album) and had a project planned where he and Michael Stipe were going to write some more acoustic-based stuff together. And like Daniel Johns, Kurt revered The Beatles/John Lennon. So who KNOWS what Kurt WOULD have written, had he lived.

  • @LantaGem most of the music Kurt Cobain liked had little in common with his own though, so you can't be sure it would bleed into his work too much. But even bands like REM had similarities to what Nirvana was doing. it may not be the bolder factors in the sound but there is little things that they can get together with. it could be that they meet similarity in the alternative nature of their music. R.E.M's music might be softer but it's not as likely to be on some teeny boppers iPod as this.

  • @HAYDS510 You make some valid points. I guess I was trying to say that (judging by the choice of songs Nirvana covered on MTV Unplugged, and Kurt's planned project with Stipe) it's hard to guess the direction in which his music would have evolved (or changed).

As for Silverchair, they had been heading away from grunge/rock for some time. Half of Neon Ballroom (and most of Diorama) were ballads bordering on musical theatre, so this song shouldn't have come as a huge shock.

  • I want the old Silverchair...

  • Anyone else think Ben resembles another famous drummer now? Like, John Bonham?

  • @chalklava

    YES!

ive even said so myself man! glad some one else pointed it out! :D

and he played alot like Bonzo in old Silverchair records..

  • @GrungeMetalRocker lol...great minds think alike...yes, I remember back in the day when he would bash those skins! :)

  • @chalklava

    I know! hahahahaha! :D

  • @Nephilimization I agree you can't compare Coldplay and Silverchair, but not because Silverchair is better. Does someone have to have interesting history to be a good musician? I think not! Also, a lot of Coldplay's songs are quite different, and if you listen to the lyrics, they are quite interesting.

  • I laugh at how people find it difficult to like both old and new music of a band. I like a lot of old Silverchair songs, I have the Frogstomp album and the songs are brilliant, and I was introduced to the new stuff first!! If you like the old stuff better, why listen to this? Why not just listen to the old stuff, which is probably the obvious choice :/ Awesome song, great Australian band :)

  • happy horse shit bring back the old silverchair or he may as well stay with his boy friend paul mac

  • wtf what happened to the lead singer?

  • @MissAnnaFinx

    He started eating.

  • Im 28 and been lovin Silverchair since I was 16. Johns is a great musician and even with all their changes I always love and support there direction. Great band.

  • cool dancing...NOt!

  • whatever people think silverchair is supposed to sound like, this is a great song...

  • At a time when rock is hanging by a thread in relavence to society, Silverchair had a chance to try and do their part of trying to keep rock music relavent. Instead they go and put out music like this.

  • i grew up listening silver chair now the turned into fuckin panzees i meen they had it all as a rock band AND NOW THEY R TRYIN 2 B A HIT POP BAND UGGGH MAKES ME SICK

  • fare well long haired dan :'(

  • What everybody needs to understand,is that Silver Chair completely changed their style beacause it reflects who they are now & not what they were before. The old stuff reflects times of deep depresion & very dark moments for the bands leed singer. Alot of the old stuff reflects that lifestyle wich they d'ont follow anymore. The new happy Music style represents who they are now Out of the dark moments they have been in.

  • @mountainthrills If I could be bothered making 100 accounts this would be the most like comment :/

  • @mountainthrills lmao , umm , thats a nice way to say that they sold out their image , but i can honestly say that i know at least 200 people local to me that abandoned siilverchair because of this gay image they tried to call music , and since when the fuck did silverchair become a techno band , this is not silverchair and i will never support this crap . sory , but im honest and very blunt in opinions . ive been a musician as long as daniel johns and i have never sold out .

  • @mountainthrills /agree, the video even reflects this... they're running towards the light from the darkness.

We as a culture need to wake up and be honest about our current situation. Search for the truth in everything... truth will set you free.

  • @mountainthrills ...can't they just be sad then?

  • @mountainthrills You've got to be shitting me? They've always been trend-followers. Kids writing grungy stuff about being a freak when Nirvana was king, and then moved it to a more pop rock sound when that genre faded away

  • australian guys man woooo HOT

  • these guys used to be so much better

  • @Nephilimization couldn't disagree with you more .. true silverchair are amazin but coldplay aren't as big as they are for no reason... they completely overshadow silverchair in live and songwriting abilities

  • " Sillver Chair"? Dude are you for real?

  • betrayed the movement

  • traiu o movimento,mano

  • what a fffffffffffffff this is a silverchair??????????? please no

  • @egon1980wawa this is not silverchair, silverchair dead

  • @egon1980wawa No shit.. he turned into George Micheal, and the music is even worse!! It's like being cheated on lol

  • you know guys, i like it! yeah, i know, is totally crazy see how they changed in these years, but this and waiting all day are the only songs that i like in young modern. I hope that they come back to the roots!
