This song is famous not only for its music, lyrics as well as the story behind it. It is actually based on a Kazakh folk song. During Sino-Japanese War, Wang Lo-Bing, a Manchu from Beijing, was in Qinghai helping the film director Cheng Junli (Shanghai born Cantonese) making a film about China, funded by General Ma Bu-Fang, a Hui military leader. He met a Tibetan girl and fell in love with her. So he wrote the lyrics based on a Kazakh folk song.

Both dancer and singers are excellent. However, I think Wang, Lo-Bing wrote this song for Tibetan young lady not for Mongolia young lady.
