Actually if you want the moment that disco was essentially over it was when Heart of Glass reached No. 1 in the US. Interestingly it was not a hit on the disco charts. That's because it was a rock/disco hybrid. It helped bridge the gap between rock and dance music, broke down the radio barriers set against New Wave and disco not coincidentally was dead within a few months. Ironic how that worked.
This is more of a rock song with some dance and maybe even techno elements. New Wave was rock with a danceable beat. It's what replaced and helped to extinguish disco. And the labels are worn out. A good song is a good song.
I have to disagree crankenstein70- this was their anti-disco song (and they had said as much). I really thought that "Eat to the Beat" was a departure from that whole genre and went deep into the New Wave movement.
