  • Yes they were very good, but as you saw Brian was Sweet without him they couldn't make it. Love ya Brian Connolly one very amazing singer and frontman

  • So beautiful Brian was

  • @squiffydoodle As was Mick, handsome guys. Very much missed.

  • Love Love Love this song and Brian was the best singer ever!!

  • EXCELLENT.

  • somebody, tell me if it is true that some gal cut brians throat? is that why hes wearin the scarf??thnx

  • @Super70duster "In 1974 Connolly was badly beaten up after leaving a nightclub in Uxbridge where he received several kicks to his throat which resulted in him being unable to sing for some time and losing some of his vocal range permanently. To this day the perpetrators have not been caught. This event also meant the band missed out on supporting The Who at Charlton Athletic Football Ground. Several songs on the Sweet Fanny Adams had to be sung by other members of the band"

  • Check out the bass player. Now thats cool shit right there.

  • i watched sweet in bristol at the top rank..many many years ago..the were and still are fab...

  • oh yes...that rocks!!!

  • ein tolles lied . tolle gruppe.brain cornelly seine stimme wahnsinn.

  • I LOVE the guitar riff on this song!

  • Skin tight white jeans, skinny ribs, skull caps and platofrm shoes, order of the day if you wanted to be Cool in the 70's, my best friend was madly in love with the lead singer Brian - Happy Days. lol

  • so great to see The Sweet again :-) Thanks for you posted this number ....

  • Sadly the singer here died young, right? BUt not sure what from.

  • @XMARINEmax

Brian Connolly died from liver failure

  • LIVER FAILURE -BRIAN CONOLLY -

Oh I see -Thanks for info. Was that natural or from drinking?. Only wondering but still sad cos his band (THE SWEET) ripped in the seventies like lightening! -and the 'ballroom Blitz' song was dynamite. Oops tha reminds me of another song by the band MUD called DYNAMITE

  • Hi.

I've posted a documentary, "Don't Leave Me This Way". This was Brian's last TV appearance. Here you will see what 20 some years of drinking, has done to Brian.

It's very sad to watch, but at the same time you'll get a chance to see some "Sweet" stuff.

    Enjoy.

  • Why did they chuck the glam look and take on this more masculine look? The fans loved them the way they were.

  • I have so much truly great music on you tube!!!

  • I grew up with these guys. Went through a few copies of Desolation Boulevard. Always loved this one though.

    Thanks for posting. 5 Stars

  • oh the memories

  • What a great song, they proved to manage without Chinn/Chapman

  • Love this song - and so agree with the words. Always loved their sparkly outfits and Big hair. lol

  • Fantastic song and great musicians.

An époque that will never return.

  • Pozdrowienia dla Aśki :)

  • I love love love this song, I wish there were more young people who also who could start a band and do songs of this quality.

  • Love this song!

  • Me too :-)

  • que recuerdos excelente.....

  • Exelente ¡¡¡¡

  • Great. I miss those days.

  • I liked it better when they had long hair and silver clothes - bring back glam rock! However, this is a BEAUTIFUL and heartfelt song - it's got me through a breakup or two!

  • I love Sweet, this is one of my favourites. Great song!

  • Love this group and song, rip Brian.....

  • Brian cut his hair! :(

  • BriaN IS DEAD...

  • I meant his hair is shorter in this video.

  • Sorry.Didn´t mean to be rude.

  • cool

  • OMG what a nice voice,unbelievable!

    scrap that then.

    this is an awesome song

  • i want this guy to sing at my wedding

    what is he up to?

  • dead unfortunately !!

  • rip brian

  • The rot had already set in when Oxygen came along. Brian is still absolutely beatiful even though he is well into booze at this stage...so much crap going on - bad feeling among the band members, Andy trying his best to oust Brian, writing songs with Steve that are too high for Brian etc... it makes me sick when I see those clips of Andy an Mick chumming it with the Aussies, saying that there was nothing personal about Brian's departure etc...Sweet wouldn't have made it without him. RIP BC

  • zu dem Lied hab ich als 3 jährige schon getanzt. Blumenkind sagt Danke, sehr schön!

  • Thanks for the note, I love your page!

  • classic music

    classic band

    RIP Brian

    RIP Mick

  • nothing killed sweet they live on forever

  • I LOVE you Brian!!

  • hi! You have great taste. I love him too!

  • the end is near, shorter hair, more poppy, disco killed rock in the late 70's then rap killed disco, what will kill rap, I'm still waiting

  • New wave and heavy metal killed disco. Then grunge killed hard rock. rap just sucks.

  • Eminem killed rap in my oppinion...

  • rock never died..it's alive and well..and in the 70's disco only lasted about 6 yrs..and believe it or not , the funky sounds of disco are based on early r n b..this was a great song for them,,they matured with great musicianship and songwriting, and lost all their tinny bopper fans..that's why the end came quickly..i can't belive how much their appearance changed from 76-78...they looked so young during the fox on the run era..here they look like aging rockers, only 2 yrs later . great band !

  • danke danke sweet4everforum!

    deutschland uber alles!

  • Darling Brian - so beautiful. Never fails to turn me on....R.I.P.

  • brian the singer ??

  • Who else?

  • FANTASTIC SONG AND BAND!!!

  • having a great time listening to 70's music. remember this one from hs

  • <3 oh yeah, this sends my hormone levels back to the 70s and high school (of course they reset to age 46 promptly!)

    Love it. Thanks for posting!

(0:21 is Spinal Tap-ish no? lol)

  • Loved this when I was a teenager - A very long time ago Ha Ha

  • fabulous! Brian was the best looking, and best singer in rock. I'm so glad this song was a hit, because it's hard to explain who Sweet is to the average person, you have to mention Little Willy, ballroom Blitz, or Qxygen.

  • Their last biggie ...

  • He should have worn that scarf while he was getting his neck stomped on!

  • Comment removed

  • Coolyjojo you said it all!!!

  • This band got better with each album. I flipped when this album came out! Melodic yet progressive, rock yet classical. I didn't think they could get any better than they were on Give Us A Wink. I was wrong!

  • All the Glam Rock scene of the 70's was Awesome. It can NEVER come back, coz no one can write these kind of songs anymore. It's called SIMPLICITY, which is the hardest thing to find, among pop wanabes and X factor overnight sensations. SAD, SAD, SAD.

  • I think the next generation could surprise you. I'm 17, and there's a huge portion of my generation who loves the 70's rock. There's gotta be some future good musicians inside this portion...

  • I'm 13, and I like this, too.

  • Sweet is like oxygen.

  • They nicked their sound from 'The Darkness' !!(joke!!)

  • Haha

  • I hope the rest of the guys from Sweet check out Youtube once and a while and know how many people on this planet appreciate them. They were fucking awesome!

  • wicked comment, i think they were the bollocks, i love this song and loads more that they did. They were fucking awesome!

  • @liverpoolpictorial You're absolutely right. I couldn't have said it any better. SWEET was definitely one of the VERY best bands. I'd like to thank everybody who has ever posted The Sweet here on Youtube.

  • @liverpoolpictorial WERE??? THEY ARE!!!

  • @liverpoolpictorial I'm sure they may...though that would only be 2 of "them". Very sad...rip mick and brian

  • @liverpoolpictorial Too right! Look at all the hits they had and they don't get the recognition they deserve.

  • @liverpoolpictorial .... yes they were ... shame we lost him .....and his brother taggart .... allen... 11th march ...southampton

  • Awesome oldie!!!

He can sing, can anybody today and put it to music?

...Our stuff will come back, my friends in the UK agree.

  • (And in France, yeeha!)

  • Connolly was a talented man, he had a great singing voice....after having several heart attacks he eventually died of liver failure..all caused by his alcohol abuse - what a waste!

  • In Steve Priest's book:

Brian being fond of the booze, and even fonder of the ladies(!) was set upon by a group of men who accused him of trying to steal their girlfriends. Given Brian's beautiful looks - jealousy probably took over. He had his throat stamped on. (thugs were heard saying "you'll never sing again") his voice range was never the same again - and because of it, the band couldn't support The Who in London which would've changed everything

  • When did that happen to Brian?

  • 1974 during the recording of the Sweet Fanny Adams album. It happened on Staines High Street.

  • Icc! What violence! I'm sure the girls wanted a little xtra fun besides.... How do you know all this anyway!? Thanks....

  • Good teenage memories of this song, but these guys are horrible looking. They look like an all male Abba. It's ok, the song is great!

  • Great Band, Connolly was class as a frontman, some people had it, some didn't. He had it in spades full. What a loss. RIP

  • This is my All-Time FAVE - Used to Bop away at the local Disco to this - Sad or what?????

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE STEVE! his constant joking about the fake playing is hillarious. i also love the rest...but why oh why did brian get that dorothy hamil hair-do?

  • You do not realise the regaloche have done me!!!! I am moved up to the tears... returned thirteen years old in few moments... infinite graces... big!!!!!..Te lo dico in italiano, questo traduttore perde qualche colpo,se sai l'italiano bene,altrimenti...grazie infinite!!!!Un'emozione bellissima...ciao

  • No doubt, 19shed72 ... I was 12 and practically thought god had been revealed to me when I heard this song ... especially the long version! :-D

  • Brian cut his hair! sniffle. and he looks so bloated here..

  • Slade fans miss Brian so much!!!!!

  • What?

  • I was confused by the sound of this at first, it was so obviously the studio version, but I could keep hearing sounds on the drum and bass that were "different". The give away is at the end. After the track ends there is "leakage" of live drums and it is that that you can hear over the backing track.

Anyway who is complaining? Awesome track, awesome band, and Awesome Drummer.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey 6PBP6 . . I didn't hear anything different from the studio version. I think the drums at the end are because during the lipsynch they are going through the motions (no cables outta the guitars/mic). However, drums are too loud not to be heard, even without amps.

  • Well I can hear it - it couldn't stand out more if it was sub-titled! Some of the drums sound duller, they are quite "bright" on the studio recording, but everything else is so spot on that they were obviously miming to the track.

It is definitely "live" drum sound on top of the studio track, you can tell by the extra couple of beats at the end of the track aswell. I don't think the bass is any different when I listen again. It is the "live" drum sound you can here over the track as you say.

  • You're right, the video is taken from german music show disco. They never played live in this time in german television. You can find out by watching other vids from german show disco or hitparade. In this time in germany the TV People wanted to make everything perfect. -they told the artists to perform in playback - even if they wanted to play live. The first live performance in Hitparade I remeber was "Nena - Nur geträumt" an this was in the 80's.

  • Haven't heard this one for a long time. Check out the hair(lead singer) Whoa!

  • Yes Sweet was an amazing band . In an era of extreme one hit wonders they managed to get through the early seventies glam the mid era with the end of chinni chap music and into the later parts with rock and maybe perhaps too much variation they where trying to adapt to the new disco and new wave music that was approaching but unfortunately they lost their identity but man what a ride eh boys...Steve what the fuck where u thinking with that perm.........

  • I love The Sweet!!!!

  • Excellent Song!Cool Vid.!Wow!!!Still a Great Band!Forever!Ta vry Mch,for Posting!Mch Thx.

  • great song just a shame it was the end of a great era for the band - never to be retrieved again ----- cheers for the great songs and memories ,you guys always rocked RIP BRIAN & MICK

  • stand up drummer---literally!

  • great song from what i feel was their best album. too bad it ended for brian after this- alcohol and attitudes ruined everything, but i guess that is the business. rip brian and mick

  • keep putting the sweet on,my favourite all time band .i love this tune of the 1978 level headed album a classic andy scott such a talent as well as brian ,steve, mick great stuff loved it.

  • I never understood why people think this was an ELO song? I Loved The Sweet and ELO and to me they had Distinctly different sounds, I mean where's the strings and choir that ELO used at this period?. R.I.P. Brian Conolly what a great vocalist!

  • I agree. If you've listened enough to both you can't mistake 'em. True there's a degree of similarity in THIS song, but not in many others I think.

  • But it does sound a lot like ELO!! I also like both groups and off course they sound different but this song actually sounds like ELO in many ways!

  • So sanktalucia66... what you are saying is that the lead singer of "The Sweet" sounds like Jeff Lynne? While there might be some similarities in singing voices I suspect thats where the similarities end. I'd hate to have to find similarities between Glam Rock, which was The Sweet's trademark, and Symphonic Rock which I think describes ELO best.

  • It's ONLY in this song Sweet sounds like ELO. Nothing else. And no, it's not only the voices, it's the music as well, it's diffucult to say exactly what sounds the same, it's not the guitar but maybe the bass and synt. I do adore both Sweet and ELO so it's absolutely no criticism.

  • Well lets agree to disagree here.

To me it's like comparing Apples to Oranges. The styles of each group is so vastly different in so many ways. One of the things I always loved about ELO was their use of Moog Synthesizers and philharmonic orchestra's. Neither were, to my knowledge, used much by The Sweet. In any event Rock On!

  • Yeah. When they recorded this in France they were kind of experimenting with an ELO-type sound so you're right. It does sound alot similar. But still awesome!

  • id say the backing vocals sound a bit ELOish

  • Sweet had a sound engineer, Reinhold Mack who left to record with ELO, then Queen. You can hear his musical trademark on Sweet's songs. Sweet was one of the first in starting this vocal in-sync harmonies glam-rock music. Then Reinhold continued on and gave us ELO and Queen respectively, each major icons of the 70's

  • This does sound like an ELO song but when you listen to No You Don't they sound like nazareth

  • My stepdad showed me this song today. It's a bit old for my taste, but it's still great. I assumed it was ELO.

I'll tell him that when I next see him.

  • This is one of my all time favorite 1970's songs but It is not Disco.

  • possibly the most perfect song ever!

    RIP Sweeties

  • look at his flying and turning mic,he is a handy man!! top song & sound. ThXns.

  • Thats a funny remark!

  • these guys freakin rock!!

  • two questions:

Who did the deep bass/baritone harmonies?

    and

why during this time period, did brian start wearing scarves around his neck?

  • As to question#2, look at the year, 1978. Sweet, like the Stones, Kinks, Rod the Mod et al, was trying to cash in on disco, hence the scarf on Brian. Luved this song in High School.

  • i love how he trows the mic around its so cool lol.

    awsome song

  • yeah, brian did seem to get more into moving in their later years. He mainly kept his hands on his hips in the early vids.

  • best song ever

  • Brian sah da schon nicht mehr SO gesund aus.

  • Man Connoly added so much to this band

  • 1978.

  • I can see that the lead singer has aged quite a bit in this clip, but heck, still as handsome as ever. Wow !.

  • top 15 smash 1978

    great sound

  • That is so true Pullisto, i agree 100%, people need to learn how to respect people like this. People like sweet have a lot of wisdom to teach :)

  • People today need to heed the lyrics of songs like these, someone feeling this way get looked down upon as if there's something wrong with them feeling thatw way, classed as having some sort of illness! Love depvrivation is indeed like a lack of oxygen, one of the fundamentals, for the soul!

  • Sweet.

  • Why do all good things come to an end? :(

  • IT is.

  • Why did Brian Connolly cut his hair? He had beautiful hair, whay?

  • Everyone was cutting their hair. Queen, Rush, even Led Zep. The late 70's early 80's was a nightmare for heavy rock fans. Both fashionably and muscially. Thank god Iron Maiden and the rest of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal showed up in the 80's to kick everyone in the arse.

  • I wish they bloody well would again, LOL!!!

  • I saw Sweet perform "Love Is Like Oxygen" at the Philidelphia Spectrum right after it's release. That was an awesome show!!! Sweet were at the top of their game then. They were an original...no other band could compare to them! This video brings back memories of a better time...MANY THANKS!!!!

  • Philadelphia Spectrum? hey neighbor!! I've got lots of memories from the Spectrum!!!! What year did they play the Spectrum?

  • Andy Scott & a friend wrote this song.

By this time, Brian had gotten in a fight backstage and injured his throat. He was never as good after that (they say) and he turned into a bad drunk anyway.

Steve Priest is jaded by the whole experience, he hasn't play with them since 82 (except a few reunion shows) and he quit playing music by 1990. Drummer died of Cancer in 1993?

    Great band of their time.

  • They sadly lost Mick Tucker 2002...

    what a great drummer!

  • Not 1993, it was 2002.

  • Man it's true.

  • nice (:

  • Love is like Oxygen! You get too much you get too high, not enough and you're gonna die. LOVE gets you high! Excellent lyrics and fabulous video. Thanks for posting this video!!

  • one of the greatest songs ever created!!!!Conolly is the immortal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song. Sweet is timeless.

  • i love this song so much

  • Sweet!

  • SWEET rules. Looks like they were shaking off their GLAM ROCK past here in 1978.

  • Bloody fantastic!

  • es ist doch wohltuender wenn brian diese version singt beate

  • It´s now 30 years ago. Unbelievable!

  • I agree

  • Good Version!!!!!
