  • Very good lesson , thank you for that

  • U r good at playing gutar I am better

  • @christian11124 What I lack in ability I make up for in modesty :)

  • do u know Karl Pilkington ?

  • @blindsaquib There's no doubt, Karl is a good looking man and I look waaay to much like him.... born lucky I guess :)

  • @devilsinheavenvideos hahaha.....now i know 2 geniuses who kinda look the same..lol

  • You rock Dave. Best lesson on youtube. I keep returning to this tutorial. Amazing work & I really appreciate it.

  • great tutorial man, and youre an aussie, perfect :)

  • It is 3 am and I can't sleep. Thought I would see if anyone had this solo tabbed out to save BST.

Nice to see it here. I found the series of 24 first but it starts with Vid 2. So anyway, not tonight, but can't wait to tear into this tomorrow. Thanks for your effort.

  • "You be your own player." Quite possibly the smartest thing I've heard on YouTube,.

  • Dave, thank you for posting these videos. When I was roughly 16, this movie was out. And I was blown away by the head cuttin duel. And I never thought I could even touch this piece. But I've learned the first 6 arpeggios. Now I need to teach myself how to do it up to speed. I'm no shredder.

  • Wow thank you so much for these lessons I've gotten everything else down by ear but those beginning arpeggios but now I have it thank you!! Can you be my guitar teacher :)

  • 6:12 done till next year

  • A piece I've always been too lazy to learn until finding this tutorial.

Awesome mate. Great attitude to what others think also. Looking forward to churning through the rest of the lessons once I have this down!

Thanks a lot; it's inspired me to deviate from the blues for a while!

  • Hi Dave thanks to you I have learnt to play this piece, I took your advice and developed my own style to playing it and posted it on you tube, it still needs a bit of work but I would have never even contemplated trying to play it until I saw your video lesson, thanks again your a great teacher!!!

  • Dave, thanks a TON for all the hard work in putting this set of videos together. I've always wanted to tackle this thing and just kept putting it off. Time to get to work! (wait.....guitar isn't work....it's fun dammit!)

  • Nice guitar ;) I want one just like that.

  • LOL I love this guy. You really know how to live. ;)

  • It's Carl pilkinton

  • thanks for posting this, very good lesson, comprehensive and clear. great teacher man

  • P.S. I think it's badass you let the "hater's" out there know to fuck off.

  • Hello there Dave! Thanks man for the awesome advice you gave me this morning. That's the probably the best advice anyone's ever given me. Honest. My last girlfriend was a complete bitch to me for finger picking my electric while lying in bed with her watching a movie (it wasn't even plugged into an amp). Secondly, I've been trying to learn Eugene's Trick Bag for many years and have had a difficult time with tabs. You're the best for taking the time to teach this.

  • Dude your awesome and I have never found any other video out there of someone giving great and exact details and tips for a song as you do! Ima learn this song now thanks to you!

  • Loving it, for once I'm actually gonna Sgt down and learn this piece thanks to your video

  • Thanks for doing this! Cute kid too. Got a couple little ones myself

  • i have big hands so the arpeggios are way easier, i can use my ring instead of pinky

  • lol 1:23 gotta love this guy

  • lol just happened to come across your video........your really good at teaching :-)

  • y yo pensaba q era imposible xD

  • How many "you look like Karl Pilkingtons" have you had? Because now you have one more:)

  • 雖然我聽不懂英文 指法看得很清楚^^

  • If i didn't have to work in order to pay taxes, food, mortgage, diapers, etc. i would be practicing my guitar 8 to 10 hours a day...

  • youre like the balld vai.

  • could you do a video where you provide some examples of a typical practice session?

  • So would that be scales for 1 hour, arpeggios for 1 hour ect. and would each hour be considered a cycle or would you practice scales, arpeggios, tapping all with in 1 hour and then repeat that same cycle? And do you suppose that there are obsure shredders out there that woodshed in obscurity that are better and have greater technique than the likes of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Michael Angelo Batio, or the famous shredders famous because they really are better?

  • @ngkingigade i did scales for one hour, then arpeggios for one hour etc... I believe that somewhere out there is an office worker who doesn't know he or she is the finest guitarist on the face of the planet... He or she is probably Chinese.... the world is funny like that :)

  • @devilsinheavenvideos if you wanna play taht track, i think you have to do the scales for maybe 2 years to play like steve vai, and probably more, anyway great lesson, i think ill get it some day if i try my best :)

  • I have heard that shredders practice for many hours a day, how would I go about practicing in such a manner? would I take a given lick or scale and then play that for 5 to 10 minute intervals and then move on to something else or would I literally take a single lick or riff and practice that for hours on end non stop? what was your approach to practice and is it good or not good to use a metronone, and if so at what intervals should I increase the speed of the metronome as I progress?

  • @ngkingigade All I can tell you is that I used to practice for around 10 hours a day. I practiced scales, arpeggios, picking technique, legato and right hand tapping - all for about 1 hour each, repeated the cycle twice and often substituted the last hour of the cycle with ad-lib playing to some backing music, just to practice the things I did in context. 100% use a metronome. Increase tempo so that you are always practicing at 85% of your max speed. If it ain't clean - SLOW DOWN. Dave. :)

  • thank you for putting this lesson up, I have been trying to learn this solo for a long time and now it has been demystafied espeacially the Paganini Caprice 5 sounding part. I was wondering if you know how to play Flight Of The Bumblebee and if so could you do a lesson for that? Do you know how to play the solo for Pain Killer by Judas Priest espeacially the really wild sounding intro to that solo it so could you do a lesson for that?

  • @ngkingigade Don't know the flight of the bumblebee or pain killer sorry. I have almost no time to dissect these at the moment but you never know what the future might bring. Thanks for the comment my friend. Regards, Dave.

  • Nice job. Thumb Green

  • Thanks for your time Dave, very nice video-lessons you have here, on youtube.

  • want to learn this but i dont have enough frets :'(

  • what stock pickups did you get and how much did this jem costed you bro? :D

  • @anonymusneo They are the standard DiMarzio pickups, don't know which model. From memory the guitar was around the $2K mark but it was some time back and my memory isn't that keen when it comes to money....

  • This is not the whole solo what about the beggining before he does the scales the very beggining at the top of the guitar the first part right after the long haired guy hold up his arm

  • @STFUandBLOWme The on-screen text explains how to play the simple pedal note trill prior to the arpeggio section. If this is too difficult to work out then listen to the slow version I play... it's in my lessons playlist. Hope this helps. Dave :)

  • .... Hey, Mr. dave whitney, just wanna say, thank you, very much & kindly, for finding/making some time to show out yur making video on Utube on how to play, a known piece on guitar, but more so, how it touches ma' heart, to see how u love, making the effort to share, how to do something, w/ the general public, & including yur recorded video, right along side with yur daughter, coming thru not quite causing, "interruption" but how you let all go along; Your home, your family, your share....!

  • Oh man, here I thought that this was a great teaching video (and it is) and the here comes 6:45 and the little cuttie just totally upstaged the kind man. Beautufull little girl:)

  • DUDE!!! 2 2 things. First off I love your openning. It's about what works for a person. Love it. 2. Lessons just don't get more practical than this. Good stuff. Thanks so much.

  • This video really help me a lot! Thank you so much!!

  • This is REALLY hard on a 21 fret strat, so im gonna have to watch each vid at least 3 times to get it right, and ill have to improvise some of it on my own :)

  • really helpful :) thankyou so much... just never take these videos down ;)

  • Very GOOD LESSON!! Great playing. Now, I'm gonna go into a small dark corner, and rock back in forth staring at a pack of guitar strings hoping I'll ever be as good as you... all joking aside. That was really great playing man. You did very well teaching it also. I plan on taking a college course next year at Ga. Tech. Along with computer science. Take care man.

  • I love the way you lay it out. Easy to understand, even for someone like me that's always played by ear. And touching to see a father take out time for his daughter in this day and age. Keep up the great work.

  • I appreciate the fact that you gave that finger to obnoxious wankers that would otherwise shoot holes in such fine instruction. It would seem that there is always one in the lot. I loved the lesson!

  • thanks man

  • Hey man thanks alot 4 this, alot of players are on the move and dont have time 4 lessons....anyway, cool brotha

  • I wanted to thank you from Spain, it is very easy to play the song as you teach, I hope that in future more songs you can hang this level.

  • you look like carl pilkinton lol

  • thanks man

  • im having trouble adjusting to how fast this song is. Any suggestions? and thanks for the videos man. there awesome

  • @3000naram I will respond to your question privately. Dave.

  • @3000naram more practice is wat it takes just keep playing it and playing it each day and then like every other day just speed up a little bit im still working on this songs speed too its takes lots of time

  • I just started so far... and you're fucking awesome. I'm the type of person who learns visually ( I'm a professional opera singer, and an intermediate guitar player) and I'm already loving how you show WHAT fingers to use and when to change positions. It's making it so much easier for me now then what I was trying to do! THANKS!

  • @LikeABawse I don't know about being "fucking awesome" but thanks for the kind words. I'm glad that the lessons have helped you and so many others just like you. All the very best to you and all of my guitar playing brothers and sisters out there :) Regards, Dave Whitney

  • Praise be to Dave!

  • Hey man, I appreciate a man like you. Your a dude who's willing to take the time to help others and teach something not only in the right manor, but the actual right way, and YOUR way too. Once I get the right recording technology I'd love to post videos like this. I'm doing this for one of my classical recitals at school and with your help I can finally do that. Many thanks, and I will deffinitely keep an eye out for more of your videos for inspiration and learning how to play songs right.

  • @RFV410 Glad I could help you out my friend. Regards, Dave.

  • Great,Dave! I apreciate so much the way that you explain everything

I feel so lucky by had been found this lesson.

Forgive me for my bad english.

Thank you so much from Madrid,Spain. Abe

  • that was cute when your kid came in happy autralia day

  • awesome video, could ov skipped crap at start... owel 10/10

  • yu are god dude thank yu soo much i need to win my middle school talent show with this!!!

  • So great!

    Nice greets

    Uli

  • how you do to sound that clean when you do the sweep part :O

are you in clean channel or something?

  • @sonnic1995 No, I'm not using a clean tone. What I do is I use the dirty channel but I turn the volume right down on my guitar then select pickups with lower output but a rounder tone, such as my middle pickup or the middle and bridge pickups together. I prefer a tone that responds dynamically to my playing so if I play hard the sound becomes more overdriven, and if I play soft the sound becomes cleaner. I am just using a little Roland cube 30x amp with a bit of delay and that's all. Dave.

  • ha that was awesome

  • great vid man, thanks a lot! great song lol

  • would i be considered gay if i said I LOVE YOU!!!! ?

  • @hellow504jr Ha ha ha .... I appreciate the sentiment. Dave. :)

  • Damn you're so cool :D right said ;) thank you very much for the video lesson truely the best on youtube !!

  • Have a quick question for you regarding the progresson through these vids. Would you advise to stick on one exercise until it's pretty much perfect and played relatively fast or pluugh on thrugh all the vids?

  • @Bluebuthappy182 Personally, I think you're better off learning the entire piece then building it up. This is because it's the transition from exercise to exercise that is often the tricky part. Ultimately it is up to you to do what feels right for you. Follow your instinct and just enjoy learning it... Warmest regards, Dave Whitney

  • @devilsinheavenvideos Yes i think you're right to be honest i was thinking more fromthe standpoint of getting bored plaing the same thing over and over again. And when you stick a fwe of these together it sound like what you're going for which hopefully will spur me on a bit. Thanks for the quick reply.

  • i like the way he starts it by giving the middle finger

  • awesome....

  • How do you do that, isn't it a bit difficult to speak with a camera?^^

  • Thanks for your Help now i can play Eugenes TRICK BAG!!!! :D

I think you're the first who has made a full lesson of Eugene's trick bag ;)

    Congratulations !

  • I love you.

  • sweet guitar

  • @sbearder23 Standard tuning. If my guitar is a bit off it's just because i've been tuning by ear lately (need to get a chromatic tuner).

  • Cheers Dave. I'm gonna subscibe mate.

  • Some people,, mmm

  • sweet lesson ...! n u got a cute kid too..!

  • Great video series, love the intro. If you are ever in the USA (New Hampshire/Boston) let me know and I'll buy you a few beers for the work you did on these.

  • Very very nice man. Great job breaking this down.

  • Hi, when you play 5-8 on the first string and 7-10, do we have to do hammer-on ? thx for your lesson !

  • @sluxguitar Do whatever works best for you.... As long as the sound of the notes isn't compromised, which is a judgement you will have to make when you play it. Hope that helps. Regards, Dave.

  • @sluxguitar there are no hammers in this songs you just screw it

  • @LLexP Pardon my obvious ignorance but.... doesn't this piece START with a section that is ALL hammers and pull-off's? This is the way I play it, nothing more, nothing less. I make no claims, I just show you how I do it. Learn it this way or some other way, makes zero difference to me. Thanks for your comment though. Regards, Dave.

  • love the fuk off to the trolls at the start mate great lesson

  • dude awesome lesson thanks a lot, i agree everyone should play how ever is comfortable there is no wrong way to play something just different ways!!

  • Great LESSONS!! I like it! please teach us or me how to play Butler trick bag. It is also a beautiful melody. You'll do it?

  • @MyStratoGuitar I'll see what I can come up with ... :)

  • very helpful thanks

  • @chanfleman My Pleasure.

  • hey man, just so you know youtube has increase the time limit to 15 minutes just incase you want to upload longer videos.

  • Dave, thanks. Talk all you want, very informative. Your daughter is a little angel. I'm going to steal this from you and whip it out at one of the country gigs and see what happens.Agai,thanks.Steve

  • @biggfingger5 Thanks Steve, mylespaul777 is simply expressing the way he/she learns best. I'm not offended and I'm quite certain the comment was not directed at me in a negative way. Truely, I appreciate every comment, because your feedback inspires my development. I'm just here to help. Thanks for your comment Steve, you're right , she is an angel. Everybody loves Crossroads - it's instantly recognizable everywhere. Practice hard my friend & Let me know how it all goes ok. Regards, Dave

  • play more talk less lmao

  • @mylespaul777 Thanks for your comment. The reason I created this series is because youtube is full of players playing but there is little to no detailed instruction related to what they are playing. Sorry if it is not to your liking, everybody learns differently. I will try to be a little more direct in the future. :) Regards Dave Whitney

  • @devilsinheavenvideos I'm sorry for being disrespectful in disregards to you and your methods of teaching, You're right very few lessons on here express in detail how songs are played, I just do best by watching. Congrats on being able to play this, I sure can't, well yet that is lol

  • @mylespaul777 No please dont appologize for your comment, I am interested in everyones input and I agree that sometimes I just need to shut up and play. Hopefully part 12 will be more suited to your learning style. I actually mentioned your comment in my vlog today because I really think it's a valid comment and I will try my best to find the middle ground between being overly verbose and being a show-pony. Thanks for watching and please stay in touch. Warmest regards my friend. :) Dave

  • @devilsinheavenvideos do you have a facebook>?

  • @mylespaul777 Sorry but I don't. I leave that to my wife who easily does enough online chating for the both of us. :) Regards Dave
