i've never used this before, i used recycle but once you chop up the beat it's only in rex format so it's limits me. i want to build my own kits quickly can i map to keys?
@26mook The beat mapper applet cannot cater for music that varies in bpm throughout.. however, as the video you mention states, you can once beat mapper is done, go to the individual clip properties and adjust the "pole" positions to the correct beat. However, despite using the PRO setting, I have found the sound goes a little "wow and flutter" if there is a major difference in speed, like old 70s and 80s dance tunes. Ableton live does a much more efficient job in my opinion.
@26mook Forgot to mention, the old version Im using in the video is Pro 6, This clip properties to adjust only appeared in Pro 7 and later.. so if you have older versions of acid you won't find it!
Thank you so much Dj Mark Almond. Someone recommended this software to me for building remixes and your tutorial really helped me to understand this software much better
I just can't get the tracks to beatmatch spot on on Acid, I know how to work the beatmaper since I have experience with Ableton Live and other DJ software but despite the tunes are properly beatmaped and they are new and constant bpm tracks the beats are not totally in place.
I followed your advice of draging the beats by holding the "alt" key but when I fix an area of the song another gets screwed, it's kinda frustrating, Am I doing something wrong? Do I miss something here?
Your not doing anything wrong.. from what you say, I would say that the entire track is not a constant bpm. Unlike Ableton, the beatmapper cannot be flexible throughout the track. Using the Alt key to move the track slightly will affect the entire song, theres no way of locking parts, unlike in Ableton.
Basically, I mean once you fix the first 4 bars, and got to the checking phase, the lines represent the bars and beats in 4/4, and when there are more lines at the end and beginning, do you know you've messed it up? Not sure about that phase. Thanks
Yes. If the lines do not line up by the end it means the song has varied in bpm somewhere along the line! Acid Beatmapper cannot cure that, you'll need Ableton Live to correct something like that!
Ok great- thanks. I've downloaded Sony Sound Forge 10 now, but not sure what to do with it, so if you made a video on that it would be brilliant.
Basically, is Beatmapper useless for tracks recorded pre-click days, or even tracks that have a pause or a change in tempo? (That's nearly all my record collection... he he)
Might try this Ableton Live if I can find that. Thanks again for the answers and the help.
It you have tracks like i do from the 70s and 80s with real drummers.. then Ableton Live is your best bet. Search out youtube videos on Warping, as this is what Ableton uses to correct any dodgy drummers and put them in time!!!!
Also, what's the story with Beatmapper- if you set up the beat as you do, and it goes off-kilter after several 4-bar segments, does it mean you've done it wrong, or does it mean Beatmapper is fairly useless, and only works to make loops, as after 8 bars it loses the run of itself?
The beatmapper is needed so acid knows the bpm. Use beatmapper on a techno house track and it is spot on throughout as it was probably recorded with a steady drum machine. Do the same with an old vinyl dance tune and beatmapper will be slightly off by the end.
If I want a sample from a record I'll usually create the loop in Sony SoundForge before I bring in to Acid. Thats just my preferance. Search intenet for other pre-created loops!
I can't match beats to vocals arrr!!!

You legend!!! Thanks a million... really need this... please upload more of stuff like this.
Do you mainly just get beats from tracks you have, or is there a good source of just beats you can adopt into projects available?
Thanks again!
