  • What a beautiful and complex song. Musically and lyrically Peter pushes the boundaries.... he really has no frontiers :-0 How refreshingly far this is from the much too common love song theme. Here he makes a musical story over the tragedy that is mental illness... pretty much the theme for a number of his songs on this album. What genius and vision to step outside the "formulaic" approach. Of all the celebrities and the famous, Peter Gabriel is the only one who would leave me overawed.

  • I don't really hate you, I don't care what you do. We were meant for each other me and you.

  • I was at this show ! It was great !! Come back to New York Peter !

  • Pitty he didnt play this in the UK, class song !

  • ha! Poetry of a profilier - get it?

  • I feel sorry for the guy that accidentally pressed thumbs-down when he was going for the thumbs-up.

  • I was there!! It was AMAZING!!

  • Dunno why, I'm a pretty tough as nails guy, but this song makes me tear up whenever I hear it.

One of the few true musical geniuses of our time.

  • And I let he bullet fly.....

  • I love this song. its my favorite.

  • Assombroso, grande Peter gabriel...

  • PG, the only British artist who coud capture emotions in words and turn them into musical reality for me. I identify so much with this song.

  • @ConservativeDemocrat

    You are so on target!

  • you wanted to kill George Wallace too?

  • Just a wonderful performance by PG! And a great dramatic song.

  • It sounds like the shooting of JFK. At least that's what I think he's singing about, from Lee Harvey Oswalds perspective. JMO

  • This song is about Arthur Bremmer, who shot Alabama Governor George Wallace in 1972. Bremmer timed the shooting to get as much publicity as possible, making sure he did it in time for the early news.

Some of the lyrics are based on Bremmer's book, An Assassins Diary.

  • Thank you for telling me that. I just thought it was JFK, it fit , so I imagined it that way. I appreciate the true meaning of the song, cause I love to know why he wrote something..

  • @FrizzTheCat

This is about Kennedy, not wallace.

  • @MiKriya

    Bingo!

  • 'cause I'm alive! Fantastic performance from Peter! Still hope to hear this live again one day.

  • I love you Peter ¡¡¡¡

    You're the best ...

  • XOXO

    all turned quiet.....

  • great song - great live performance.

  • i know..... this isnt really wat the sing it about.... but my parents are not longer together.... and that last line "come back mam and dad, you're growing apart and u know that i am growing up sad, i need some attention.. ill shoot into the light"

Really sums up my feelings when i was a child

  • I love this song too. K

  • This song rules!

  • until you zoomed out, I thought he had the whole band on his laptop!

  • this song is about the assignation of Pres. Kenedy.. about the assign it's awesome and one the cd it's goes into "and through the wire" totally great song writing!

  • it's not about kennedy...

  • It's about George Wallace, who was a better man than Kennedy by far.

  • I understand this song to be based on a book titled The Diary of an Assassin.

  • @masaguccimen In English: "Musically and spiritually one of the most amazing musicians."

  • I like his new haircut!

  • haha. I agree

  • My first concert. 1980. 12 years old. Told my parents I was going to bed early. Climbed out the window and went with my older brother. Orpheum Theater, Boston. Come back mom and dad.

  • A treasure this song!

From third solo record. PETER GABRIEL sings very deeply. Most beautiful. I enjoy very much

  • If only a good live version of Moribund The Burgermeister was out there...

  • his voice is like.. one of the most beautiful sounds on earth. thanks for this.

  • this has to be my fave gabriel song. i just love the lyrics and how the song is portrayed. the addition of it being about the assasination of kennedy just makes it all closer to home. long live our fathers who introduced us to this music. seems to be where most of our roots are coming from.

  • Actually, this song was written from the point of view of the man who attempted to assassinate George Wallace. He didn't have a political motivation (Lee Harvey Oswald did), he just wanted to be famous, as suggested in the lyrics.

  • thanks sober. enjoyed it i was at this show i seen him four times on this leg of shows it was the only time he played this it was great!!!!!

  • I also thought he stopped performing this...this is amazinG! That crowd must be choc full of fake fans, how do you applaude so many damn times during that ending part? I would be dead silent and embracing that moment of epicness...

  • Glad I'm not the only one who thought that, vidgamer. I mean, the song is about someone assassinating someone, after all.

  • its a shame, i'm 15 too, and became fan of him in mid-2004 (my father has alot of genesis stuff and such, not that im saying that genesis even LOOKS like peter :D)

Just after Still Growing Up! damn it i'm still angry on myself that i didnt go with my dad back then. Do you know if he's gonna give any more concerts? Still Growing Up wasnt his final concert right? I'll give anything to watch him live, even for once :( I'm Going to Genesis in june, hopefully that releaves some pain ^^

  • WOW!!! That's my favorite Pete song! I just became a fan of his in mid-2006 (I'm only 15, my dad introduced me), and I think he's brilliant. The only song that could give that a run for my favorite song of his is San Jacinto, which is also beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing, illegal as it may be.

  • Great to here that you're 15 and into Gabriel, hopefully your dad introduced you to his work in Genesis. Turn your friends onto his music.

  • Easier said then done, I'm 15 too and have been trying for the two years I've loved Gabriel, and gotten two fans. :-/

  • @MacLotr awesome, im 24 and just got into a few years ago, now i got my wife (22) into him

  • brilliant - thanks for this. Did he open with this? He opened with 'Here Comes The Flood'in Europe. Last time I saw this live was early 80's Glasgow Apollo

  • No this is the encore. I wasn't at this show, this is from a bootleg that I bought. I went to see him in Toronto, both times he came for this tour, and he never played it. It is one of my all time faves of his, then again I like everything he does

  • Thanks for posting this just takes me back,Peter is just great live. Thanks again..

  • Oh yes! I thought he gave up doing this one years ago. What a pleasure and a surprise to see him performing it now, with the modern line-up. Thanks for posting this.
