@mrstuntdevil1 It is a combination of the engine (heaviest part on the boat) being on the bottom and air tight compartments all the way up. Because the engine is on the bottom it wants to go to the bottom very fast. Between the engine and airtight compartments the '47 will self right relatively quickly.
@colpoys1 If it flips, it will go back right side up, the boats are designed that way, and I seriously doubt that anyone will die. They are strapped in so even if the boat rolls they are attached to the boat.
For those who think it's fake, It can scientifically right itself. Air doesn't exactly like being under all that pressure (there are 7 watertight compartments on the 47.) So, it rolls over. Our heavy weather coxswains (captains, nevertheless) are trained in how to handle heavy weather. I'm only a crewman but from what I have seen it sounds like it's a better idea to hit the wave from the bow of the boat rather than to try and take it on from the side...
@horsyluvrIts Very True its always better with bow breaking waves, They are training and it also builds confidence in Boat. Many rescues will not allow head on waves position.
@horsyluvr Correction horsyluvr heavy weather coxswains can only go into what is it 20ft of surf? Surfman are the ones who can go into stuff like this video
@qbnate10 I am not sure what the written requirements are for heavy weather coxswains but either way 50 kt winds 30 ft seas and 20 ft with breaking surf (max requirements for the 47) is alot.
I'm in the USCG at a small boat station. I've been underway on our 47 in hwx (heavy weather) twice. 8ft + seas are considered hwx. It's like a roller coaster. I think it's fun, but I've never been on it during a capsize (which ours never have, and I hope they never will need to).
the 47' MLB is not fake designed to self right its self in under 8 seconds. They are also self bailing. The way they can right them selfes is the overheaad mast is an air tight compatment which causes the top of the vessel to want to right it self also the desiel engine sits low in the deep v cut hull causing that to want to go the the bottom rapidly
@MooseTrooper30 ---Is English your second language? Your comment is so full of mispelled words, lack of punctuation, and poor grammer, that I almost don't understand what you're trying to say. BTW, there is no "airtight compartment" in the mast. The 47' MLB, like it's 44' predecessor, has lead weights in the keel. This, along with hull design, make it "bottom" heavy, like the little weeble wobble toys you played with when you should have been reading a book.
erm why don't hey stay in the lower dek as a pose to roling over and geting washed around like an old tisue in a washing mashen? what hapened to the giys at 0:56? nice vid &nice miusic. (exsquse the spelling)
@bamsawa i'm in the uscg, believe it or not, its alot safer to be outside. The 47' MLBs are self-righting, so when you flip over its will flip its self back over in under thirty seconds.
@bamsawa Believe it or not, some guys enjoy being out in the open. And you have a much better of the surroundings from up top. And they are all strapped in so they aren't going anywhere.
Ok it's definatly not fake my dad is in the uscg aux and those boats are designed to flip over if they are flipped in the water and if you think it's so gay why don't you go try it and see how long you live Go uscg!
@MrMetallica252 u should of directed that to IrenicusPalace, not me, im the one who made this video and was also in the coast guard. Aux isnt shit but volunteers
@IrenicusPalace Definitely not fake nor is it gay... You really cant say anything and the video does no justice to what its really like to be out there in 30 foot swells on a 47 foot boat...Im just sayin...Dont talk shit until you've done something worthwhile in your waste of a life....POS

@horsyluvr You never ever wanna take a wave on the beam, if it can in any way be avoided.
Reid107 3 months ago
@Reid107 Agreed. It increases your chances of a breakdown and possible capsizing. Which would self right of course. But who wants to risk that.
