your interpretation is a bit off. This song represented the time when the Haight declined due to commercialism, hard drugs, and crime. Many of the Haight-Ashbury folks simply loaded up their stuff in buses, vans, cars, on foot...and split to greener pastures..such as Washington state, oregon, Vermont, and upstate NY. The scene never quite declined tho..and much of what you see after the 60's in Portland, Seattle, Woodstock--PHISH, BLUES TRAVELER, etc..is a result of the people from the Haight.
