Bass: 1. Requires more strength to press down strings. 2. Needs better plucking (right) hand finger co-ordination. 3. Needs a greater sense of timing. 4. More difficult to play for long periods of time (due to thicker neck). 5. Bends/pre-bends are more difficult.

Guitar: 1. Needs more left hand speed. 2. Needs more precision in the strumming/picking (right) hand. 3. Needs more left hand finger co-ordination.

Each instrument is easy to play but difficult to master. Decide for yourselves.

@OptimisticNihilistic omg sometimes playing fast on bass non stop modafucking hurts, its like, those arent strings, ITS CABLES! and tapping fucking destroys ur finger tips (bends too) and when u slide too much if ur using roundwoond strings it scratches the skin off (little by little) sometimes it kinda gives u cramps too playing... anyways just wanted 2 add that heh

@ragnaroksama On the cramps thing, doing octaves for long periods of time (epecially when you have to mute) absolutely DESTROYS the base of my thumb. I've looked at loads of videos trying to find out if I'm doing something wrong, but nope. Nice to see I'm not the only person with this problem.

@OptimisticNihilistic hmmm for me it happens when i strike with my 2 fingers non stop, i hate the sound that comes out when i dont put a little force into it (the sound doesnt come out firm and straight) like my middle finger naturally has more strength. then it starts to hurt alot in the middle of my thumb to my index (right on the side <-, for right hand) and i keep going but sometims i just make a stop or play it more lightly...or else cramps, it freaking hurts :I

if bass and guitar are the same, then why on earth do you need a bass then or a guitar then? bass is the backbone of a band. it seldom has all those solos like an electric guitar. without a bass in the band, something's missing. guitars/e-guitars are the instruments that brings up the liveliness of the audience by doing all the solos and all. i'm a 15 year old female bassist and my teacher has always taught me clear that bassists has to be humble and come out with beautiful bassline fr the band.

You can range from the easy stuff like anything Gene Simmons or Pete Wentz does to the insane like Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Jaco Pastorius. The same could be said about guitar; playing standard chord progressions and stuff like Smoke on the Water to the insane like Steve Vai or Tommy Emmanuel. Each instrument requires separate skill sets and neither instrument is "easier" than the other. Real musicians can appreciate all players.

@1611godfather Its not. PLAYING bass is NOT about covering songs. Its about combining the rythm & the melody & still play a nice groove. Most guitarists are just lacking that groove.I'm not trying to be offending & its not that they couldnt do it, they just dont practice.

I tried playing the guitar and I suck at it, while piano seems to be very easy (for me). I guess it's just about what your talent is... But the piano is also fucking easy, because all the notes are just in front of you, lying there next to each other. If you know what I mean, like on guitar or bass you have to knów how to play the notes before being able to play them...
