I was there. You weren't being intimidated. I saw it and so did thousands of others. Also, I have never heard one side of profanity or lewdness from the ralliers, unlike those who support LGBTQ. Supporters of LGBTQ were heckling children under the age of 16, describing homosexual acts to them while screaming at them. I saw this on quite a few occasions, including being attacked myself by one such homosexual while walking down the sidewalk minding my own business. An officer put a stop to it.
Looks like to police were nice to you guys and tried to explained to you why you have to move. Now, This courtyard is the State's property. That's why a permit is needed. So, when the officer asked for you to leave and you don't, you are "trespassing". Onto the Freedom of speech act, yes you have that right. But would you let me walk on your yard and up a sign? "Nope". Once again its's state's property not yours, so ask for permission, AKA Permit.
Those of you saying that the cops didnt try to intimidate us are wrong. This video only shows 4 minutes of what was several hours of going back and forth with the police who threatened to arrest us for refusing to leave a public sidewalk. It should be noted that at no time did anyone from the rally ask us to leave; the cops took it upon themselves to lie to us and say that we could not stand quietly and peacfuly on a public sidewalk.
Listening to the progandist on the stage in the latter half... I wonder if I'd be seriously considered if I argued that the gov't is limiting my "right" to teach my kids that it's good to watch Christians be mauled by lions in a public sporting arena? Logic & reason just aren't some people's strengths apparently.
There is no traditional definition of 'marriage'. History has taught me that. Only in the recent couple of centuries was marriage based on love. It used to be political.
The lady speaking at the anti-LGBTQ rally really needs to brush up on her history.
I'm going to sound like a total troll here, but Come On! They're not trying to intimidate anyone. This is just over-the-top victomhood hyperbole. There's always designated places for protesters and counter-protesters no matter where you are or what subject the event is about. The cop was very professional and calm. P.S. I'm gay, liberal, and pro-marriage equality.
So now we have designated areas for free speech on public property? I dont think so.
The First Amendment states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
I'm so proud of the small group holding strong and not being intimidated by the police, and asking questions. People like you matter, and we will prevail against the terrible homophobia that consumes our country.
@HenhousetheRed No.. you need to go read the statistics. Homosexual men in particular have a high prevalence of HIV- AIDS infections, I know anyone can get it, however it is extremely high in Homosexual men and black people. Go look at a pie chart that breaks down the info
@Miikaika25 Around 1.7 million people in the US have HIV/AIDS (all cases: gay, straight, men and women). But 5 million women in South Africa (a much smaller country) have HIV/AIDS (women, if I need to point out, are not gay men!). What does having/getting AIDS have to do with getting married? Murderers, rapists, child molester, felons, serial killers, etc. are are allowed to get married. People with MS, cancer, leukemia, diabetes, etc. have a shorter life span and can all get married.
@Miikaika25 People who smoke (a choice that can cause cancer and shorten lives) , alcoholics (also a choice when they choose to drink) and drug addicts (a choice which can shorten their lives) are also allowed to get married. (Lesbians rarely get AIDS, should they be allowed to get married?) No other group is barred from marriage based on what their choices. Dentists' odds of suicide "are 6.64 times greater than the rest of the working age population", should they not be allowed to marry?
Wait a second.. The Westboro Baptist Church can protest MILITARY funerals of our dead soldiers, but we can't hold a sign saying "equal rites"? Really??

Seems to me the police were simply asking for a permit, which these people did not have.

Law enforcement in NC's capital could give 2 poops about free speech. Wish I could say I'm shocked.

it is actually true, the statistics on gay men and HIV is really high and it continues to rise every year.
Miikaika25 9 months ago
@Miikaika25 It's the same for straight people. HIV is infecting more PEOPLE, not more GAY people.

@grfab black people need to be exterminated like the roaches they are. They contribute nothing to society but AIDS and violence.

So, er Yelocab1, my friend... the US population is something like 310 MILLION, not 300 BILLION.
That probably throws off the calculations a bit, eh?
