Do these have good quality sound comming from them? like are they worth the build for actual use for a speaker? or just to look cool, and to prove a point? :p
It is difficult to build one that is actual good enough to use as a speaker. These types of speakers are theoretically the best tweeters in the world. If you get it right that is.
And of course there is another problem for long-term use. The small ozone production is unwelcome by-product
Look at my other movie "First working plasma speaker". There you will find a link to the schematic. It is a very simple 555 circuit. The sound quality is low.

@nelsonmachupa
They are definitely cool!

what happens to the sound if you move the terminals closer together? Is there any variation?

@cjellwood
Yes there is. The sound level decreases (because you vibrate less air).

Nice job, I went cheap and did a 555 audio flyback ark. It sounds as good as my ipod headphones do, very rich quality
Sadly cameras don't capture this quality good :(

Can you post the schematic for the driver circuit you used for your flyback.
Thanks

Haha thnx. There is a better one coming up. But it will take some time to build and understand it.
I'm Franky on the HV forum.

Wonderful! Good job, and I'm sorry to hear about your nearly-deceased flyback...
