pharrell did a great job, just look at every drum cover for this song on youtube - NO ONE gets it right, and he did. sting's voice is great. overall good performance, even if they fucked up the lyrics a bit.
Dave Matthews is singing flat, Sting is screaming and Vince Gill,..well,..he's the only one that can sing and holds a note perfectly. Vince plays the guitar like the Chet Atkins prodigy that he is. Vince is without a doubt the most incredible artist this world has seen in many, many years.
cool everthing but the dumb lesbo tramp doing the intro lesbos and fags give me a break nothing could be more weird and they try to ram this crap down our throats like we hetros are wrong fags and lesbos are perverts plain and simple no diffrent than a grown man wanting to have sex with a person under 18 or some guy that rapes women.YOU CAN HATE ME NOW

Great performance...funny how the Dave Matthews haters can criticize one of the most respected artists in the music industry...DMB sells out shows year after year and is one of the most successful touring acts of the past decade...just goes to show how much people know about music...good music is good music and everything else can go to hell...peace
@mkkline55 I like DMB and they put on a nice live show but they are so overated it hurts he should get rid of the band and hire a new one that has got some soul and get rid of that violin player for real that guy has ruined more good songs than i can remember.
weak weak cover! good solo by Gill, Matthews and Sting got to much ego to play this song. Matthews is soooooooo terrible! his ooooooooos are soo out of tune.
whoever thinks dave matthews is bad is completely ignorant. He was coming off a 75+ tour where he puts on shows that last over 3 hours. Sting is also one of the best singers ever.
Nothing compares to the original. I've yet to hear harmonies done like Paul and John in the almost 50 years since they released this song. The harmonies on the chorus and the harmonies in "I held her hand in miiieeeeeeeeeeeeene" will send shivers up your spine every time you hear it..... I wish people would quit trying to cover the song if they can't do the harmonies right.
Decent performance, about all this dave matthews debate. He is a brilliant singer/songwriter, with a unique voice. However, this was after a long summer tour - and DMB plays 70 shows a summer, his voice is shot. So before bashing the guy, listen to him first. Nothing more ignorant than judging an artist based on something they didn't write, when their voice is shot.
Props to him for being himself and not just trying to sound like a beatle.
Interesting how these three are struggling with the vocals. They suck really. Shows how amazing Paul McCartney was vocally and how the rest of Beatles nailed the harmonies. Dave Matthews can't sing period but I was surprised how Sting and Vince failed to pull it off.
they was interpreting the beetles not trying to be them. The beetles are the most succesful artist ever, so you have told everyone what they already know. well done.
run is right. Dave Matthews is a terrible joke--an Emperor who's never bought a shirt. This also proves how lousy live shows are--people don't go for the music. heh heh.
I LOVE THE HALF TIME THING AT 3:23. And it looked like VInce was the only one that got it. Sting had more than one little hiccup during this performance, including missing the halftime, but it is awesome. i'm glad its up here
According to the RIAA, DMB clocks in at around 40 in the top selling artists of all time, with around 32 million albums sold. Mr Gill, well he's a bit further down the list, at around 70 right behind the Carpenters with just about 23 million albums sold. erikkanter you are correct, DMB has sold more records than Vince Gill.
This is awesome. And regarding the Dave hasn't sold half the records Vince has...are you for real? Haha. That's a ridiculous notion. PS I do like Vince. He is an amazing guitarist. But in all due respect, I would be willing to bet DMB has sold more records than Vince Gill.
I thought it was pretty solid, just Pharell sounded like he was either changing up the beat, or he just bumbled a few times. either way, it was a great performance.
I did not say that Vince Gill is a god, merely that he is considerably more talented than Sting and DM. Not opinion; fact. Empirical.
I have never heard his version of "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Thank you for the heads up. I will not listen to that song because I value your opinion so much.
BTW, have you earned your nickname by picking up some communicable disease at some point? If so, good luck with that , friend.
@computercanada much better musician than dave matthews, no contest, you flannel-wearing, cheese eating, surrender monkey. Careful, or me and about ten buddies will roll into your wannabe country and take it over...
Yeah, Vince Gill is a God, all right - his version of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' is the most embarassing Christmas song ever produced and that's some fucking achievement.
In that field, and in that field only, the saccharine infested cockend is unparalleled.
they didnt share the mike because of talent, they were trying to replicate the beatles..with dave matthews and sting being george and paul and vince gill being john because that was the lineup of how they performed that song

Dave Matthews is a terrible singer on anything he tries to sing..he and Neil Young & Bob Dylan have been ripping off records buyers for years with their terrible vocals.
uhhh?...you mighta took that comparison a bit too literally....all I was sayin is that comparin this Pharrel guy with Ringo is like comparin apples and oranges.
ahh...my bad...I just started to really listen to the Beatles. Masters of their time. Pharrell?...could be the same way if he stops chasing the dollar...
Wow, you'd think Dave Matthews could have bothered to learn all the words (he also messed up the first chorus singing background to what, Sting? Whoever did the first chorus). I really really like DMB a lot but Dave should never cover early Beatles stuff again. It is just not suited to his voice at all.
oh..cool! man i'd love to meet carter and learn some of his drumming techniques. but i guess for now i'd have to just settle for watching them on tv and dvd. anyway you cut it...he's just one of the best drummers if not the best!
forgive me for being an idiot but is Pharrell Williams a part of an established band or is he a solo performer? Nevertheless, he is an excellent drummer.
Pharell Williams is one half of the Neptunes, one if the most sucessful producing duos in recent times, he is part of the band N*E*R*D, an alternative band and he is a solo artist, aas well as a fashion designer.
Ok, let me just say right now, Dave Matthews SUCKS!!! He RUINED his part, and he can't sing worth a shit. Not only that, HE MESSED UP THE WORDS. IT'S I SAW HER "STANDING" THERE. NOT "DANCING" God, I can't understand why he's so popular. Sting and Vince Gill did a great job, though.
You sir, are a D-bag. Dave Summer tour is 60+ on average, and he does solo tours... His voice is pretty shot in this one. Hes got a great voice, hes one of the best lyricists of all time. So he sang Dancing... His Band is the Number one Touring band in America...
Actually, you sir, are a douchebag. I was not referring to only this performance, I don't like his voice PERIOD! Not on live performances, on albums, or anything. To me he doesn't have a good voice. And one of the best lyricists of all time?? I can name a lot of people who are better: John, Paul, George, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, Neil Peart, Steven Tyler, Pete Townshend, Freddie Mercury, Carl, Brian and Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Leiber and Stoller, Billy Joel....need I go on? Again, he SUCKS!
Hey, Assclown. Normally I don't respond to cerebrally undernourished cockgoblins like you, but your peurile comments tickled me so much I just had to.
The reason you don't appreciate Dave Matthews is because, musically, he's too sophisticated for your underdeveloped 'tastes'. Oh, how I laughed my ass off at your proposals for better lyricists - you could get that kind of insight from a mentally challenged 6 year old kid from the American Mid-West...or is that you?
for stating the really, really important points of your diatribe in capital letters instantly conjures up the image of a petulant child jumping up and down on the spot with a lollipop rammed up his ass while constantly screaming.
Interestingly, I noticed on another video for that half-arsed tribute band you're blowing that you had defended them with the statement "Even professional musicians make mistakes". Reeks of double standards with your condemnation of Matthews' slip, doesn't it?
And one last thing, what kind of moron places as much importance on a tribute band as you do? (Whisper it) If you want to be taken seriously then keep those kind of embarassments to yourself...although, unfortunately for you, I feel it is already much too late and at 24 you are already cursed as one of the world's musical fuckwits, a pseudo-intellectual reactionary whose ignorance will be unparallelled.
I wasn't going to respond to your comments, because quite frankly, I have better things to do with my time, but you have crossed a line. Listen, I will admit Dave has an audience for what he does, and I respect that. But does that mean I have to be a fan? No. Last time I checked I was entitled to an opinion, and I'm the kind of guy who says what's on my mind, no matter who I offend. Don't like it? Too bad. Personally I'd rather listen to a trash compactor than listen to Dave Matthews.
Wow, thanks for responding so promptly. I am indeed honoured.
It wasn't your opinion I found most offensive, you're entitled to that, as you say, and you can take it and ram it up your ass. What I object to is ignorant little pelts like you voicing their opinion in such a petulant, infantile and blinkered manner.
And the hypocrisy of your reaction to Matthews' slip got right on my tits.
As did your devotion to a tribute band...A tribute band, for fuck's sake!
Who's Dave? I see Sting, Vince, Farrell, and some dude that can't sing. He has a nice guitar. Is that why they chose him? like in the old days you let the dude that bought the instrument be in the band in spite of the fact the he SUCKS!
Sting just rocks and its nice to see a bass player get some limelight. He's so versatile he can turn himself to just about any type of music - you should check out his albums
I knew it!! Pharrell Williams is much more than another dork who just say stupid shit in front of a mic like the other zillion of his genre. At least he can play the drums very well and not like the others ones who can play only with their ass.
The other three of this video should limited themselves to just play the instruments because their singing really sucks.
Are you kidding? Vince Gill is well known for having one of the purest singing voices ever. I can understand you not caring for his singing but to say he should not sing is pretty stupid.
this is an awesome clip... and dave has buisness playing with them... more people go to see him every year than any of the others... they all rocked,, but those who hate on dave arent that bright.
None of the others can touch Vince Gill for sheer over all talent, PERIOD. Talk about a triple threat...musician par excellence, vocalist par excellence, AND song writer par excellence. And any musician of any genre will tell you that. He is brilliant.
Listen to the two sets of voices, there is no comparison, Paul, John and George are so much better. My main question is why people think Dave Matthews is so great? Different strokes I guess, his singing on this song made me cringe.
Memorable performance! Vince Gill is the most under-rated guitar player in the music industry. Not only can he sing ...he can play rock 'n roll! The Beatles' music influenced every musician on that stage in one way or another.
underrated? where'd you come up with that??? the most underrated guitar player to me is Brent Mason. you hear him on just about every nashville cut that ever came out from probably around 82 to present day.
pretty good! I like how they each had the matching suits, and each a bass, rhythm guitar, and lead guitarist was made clear, just like in the old days
I am no fan of RnB hip hop whatsoever but I really like Pharrell, he's unique and I like his songs, he's multitalented too which gives him the extra points as a musician.
Dave has no buisness being on stage with such talent, just like with his band. Pharrell was OK. If I was Vince Gill or Sting I would have crawled under the stage rather than finish the song with those hacks.
well..Dave is one heck of a songwriter..and a uniquely voiced singer (I love that his voice is so bad it's good) and you got Vince Gill who is mr singer songwriter guitar player and Sting who is all three as well..and pharrell...i literally do not know about him.
Vince Gill and Sting are great, that's what I was saying. I don't think Dave or Pharrell have any business on the stage with those two. Dave is good in his own way, but he's not in the same league as Sting especially, and this song is too difficult for him.
4 top musicians, howeve this version of I saw her standing there is far far away from the fab ones. It's just impossible to beat them. The sound of the drum is just terrible... to perfect and clean
too perfect and clean...i've not heard that complaint...in fact...the set was not perfect and was too clean sounding...had no personality eq'ed into the drums. but hey..when you have a fast moving awards show..you have no time for absolute perfection.
pharrell did a great job, just look at every drum cover for this song on youtube - NO ONE gets it right, and he did. sting's voice is great. overall good performance, even if they fucked up the lyrics a bit.

Too bad. Personally I'd rather listen to a trash compactor than listen to Dave Matthews.
gtrmu 3 years ago
Wow, thanks for responding so promptly. I am indeed honoured.
It wasn't your opinion I found most offensive, you're entitled to that, as you say, and you can take it and ram it up your ass. What I object to is ignorant little pelts like you voicing their opinion in such a petulant, infantile and blinkered manner.
And the hypocrisy of your reaction to Matthews' slip got right on my tits.
As did your devotion to a tribute band...A tribute band, for fuck's sake!

Sting sang it excellent

I just watched this again and I noticed that Vince kinda "stuttered" a little on the solo at 3:10. No big deal, he did great.

Dave is a GREAT SINGER!
eyesea28 4 years ago
Who's Dave? I see Sting, Vince, Farrell, and some dude that can't sing. He has a nice guitar. Is that why they chose him? like in the old days you let the dude that bought the instrument be in the band in spite of the fact the he SUCKS!

It's great to see Vince rock it with the Epiphone Dot. Edit out ellen degenerate and the video would be 100% better.

That's an Epiphone Casino, not a dot.

You're right, It's a Casino.

Pharrell needs to stick to the drum machine.... lousy job.

Sting just rocks and its nice to see a bass player get some limelight. He's so versatile he can turn himself to just about any type of music - you should check out his albums
akindofblue3 4 years ago 3
if pharelles the only good one, why isnt he singing?
jimstocool 4 years ago
jarochealous or wahtever ur name is... they all have great voices lol... they rock this song ur dumb.
jimstocool 4 years ago
I knew it!! Pharrell Williams is much more than another dork who just say stupid shit in front of a mic like the other zillion of his genre. At least he can play the drums very well and not like the others ones who can play only with their ass.
The other three of this video should limited themselves to just play the instruments because their singing really sucks.
jarochelas 4 years ago
Are you kidding? Vince Gill is well known for having one of the purest singing voices ever. I can understand you not caring for his singing but to say he should not sing is pretty stupid.
pamsy1961 4 years ago
this is an awesome clip... and dave has buisness playing with them... more people go to see him every year than any of the others... they all rocked,, but those who hate on dave arent that bright.
jimstocool 4 years ago 5
Pharrell really did well. He should have been singing.
sothenisay 4 years ago 3
None of the others can touch Vince Gill for sheer over all talent, PERIOD. Talk about a triple threat...musician par excellence, vocalist par excellence, AND song writer par excellence. And any musician of any genre will tell you that. He is brilliant.
pamsy1961 4 years ago
i saw him in concert tonight.. AMAZING

These men are not the Beatles.- They were an awesome tribute to them!
coltbuff 4 years ago 4
Listen to the two sets of voices, there is no comparison, Paul, John and George are so much better. My main question is why people think Dave Matthews is so great? Different strokes I guess, his singing on this song made me cringe.
bobtrophy 4 years ago
Dave isn't a great a singer..but what makes him so great is that he does sing well with what range he has.

He has one style: boring.

Memorable performance! Vince Gill is the most under-rated guitar player in the music industry. Not only can he sing ...he can play rock 'n roll! The Beatles' music influenced every musician on that stage in one way or another.
Rickenbacker350V63 4 years ago 2
underrated? where'd you come up with that??? the most underrated guitar player to me is Brent Mason. you hear him on just about every nashville cut that ever came out from probably around 82 to present day.

I think he's just trying to switch the beat up. Which just didn't end up working out too well, but it's not terrible.

no...i think he lost his concentration therefore you have the switchup. it happens

pretty good! I like how they each had the matching suits, and each a bass, rhythm guitar, and lead guitarist was made clear, just like in the old days

This definitely did not go as well as I thought it should. Vince was the standout. He is such a great talent and a class act.

I am no fan of RnB hip hop whatsoever but I really like Pharrell, he's unique and I like his songs, he's multitalented too which gives him the extra points as a musician.
kelymin 5 years ago
It seemed like Pharrell started to go out of time a little bit past the solo?
wiserobin 5 years ago
seemed to go off time, but i guess it was b/c he was still getting over ellen's aside lol!

i think he just took it half-time to change things up a bit.
tehorix789 5 years ago
Dave has no buisness being on stage with such talent, just like with his band. Pharrell was OK. If I was Vince Gill or Sting I would have crawled under the stage rather than finish the song with those hacks.
rexspe 5 years ago
well..Dave is one heck of a songwriter..and a uniquely voiced singer (I love that his voice is so bad it's good) and you got Vince Gill who is mr singer songwriter guitar player and Sting who is all three as well..and pharrell...i literally do not know about him.
BigBoiJC 4 years ago
Vince Gill and Sting are great, that's what I was saying. I don't think Dave or Pharrell have any business on the stage with those two. Dave is good in his own way, but he's not in the same league as Sting especially, and this song is too difficult for him.
rexspe 4 years ago
"...Vince Gill who is mr singer songwriter guitar player..."
...and mandolin, bass, banjo, etc, etc. He's def. a freak. Crazy talent.
I really like this performance.
brointheknow 3 years ago
4 top musicians, howeve this version of I saw her standing there is far far away from the fab ones. It's just impossible to beat them. The sound of the drum is just terrible... to perfect and clean
Ramon12 5 years ago
too perfect and clean...i've not heard that complaint...in fact...the set was not perfect and was too clean sounding...had no personality eq'ed into the drums. but hey..when you have a fast moving awards show..you have no time for absolute perfection.
